EB General Contracting Reviews (1)

I meet [redacted] at a schedualed time at her home. [redacted] asked me if I could do a project for $15,000. The foot print started out at 5 feet by 7 feet 2 story bump out addition to the front entrance way and a 4 foot by 5 foot wooden steps and deck. The next meeting she requested the job be 30%...

larger for the same price and if I would help her with this project she offered me a second level addition over the existing garage. I explained to her that there was not enough money in the job to do all of that and that the money would end up coming out of my pocket if I agreed. I then explained to her that the variables were 1 0f 2. If they would request engineered plans and if there were any rocks in the dig area that would be of added cost to remove. but they requested a variance to get an approval to start the job. So we started the work 4 months after the start date. So the start date in [redacted]'s complaint is false. We called dig safe before starting and I also drew a full set of plans for her variance with the assistance of an engineer, as to which she did not offer to pay me any money for. The dig safe marked a water line that landed 2 feet from the area to be escavated. To protect the water line we began to dig by hand with shovels. We immediately ran into large boulders needing to be broken up with jack hammers. since there was no way a machine could do this dig the rocks were way too big. Our budget was $ 2,500 dollars for this portion of the job. I did explain to [redacted] before hand that we would have to start the dig and that we could run into major cost if there was a lot more boulders through out the dig area as to which there were, From day 1 [redacted] had said to me I know u are doing me a big favor and that I would never have to pay out of my own pocket since that was my main concern, We had to jack hammer for 6 weeks to reach the depth. My cost was $8,600 due to the un- forseen boulders. My budget was only 2,500. We had also run into another issue which was the sills on the front of the house. I looked it over and gave [redacted] a very discounted price of $5,500 to do the work. She agreed to pay it, So we had to jack up the house to take the pressure off in 10 separate areas. The sills were installed, and once I had completely finished them, [redacted] started to tell me she was only paying $1,000 dollars for the total completion of the sills. We then spoke again about the money's owed to me for them. as to which we had come to an agreement that [redacted] would give me the original agreed price of 5,500. So I moved forward and went ahead and got the foundation inspected and then went on to the framing phase. The job had an allowance of $ 2,830 for a window, a door, a light fixture, and all the material to do cultered stone on the front of the building. Also another $ 600 doillars for the wooden entrance step and deck we built which was 4 feet by 5 feet. We then framed it, roofed it, and sided it all. We installed cultered stone up to the gable. Unfortunately right after I had run into some health issues which landed me in the hospital for 3 days. While I was admitted into the hospital my employee made sure that [redacted]'s job was getting done. So while I was sick and not present at the job site. [redacted] continuously was approaching my employee about doing work for her directly because she had changed her mind on the entrance steps and platform. So instead of wooden entrance she had took it upon herself and went out to purchase masonary stock which would take over 2 weeks labor as apposed to the ones we agreed on which only would have taken 1 day. My worker then tried explaining to [redacted] that the cost would be atleast $5,000 dollars for the masonary steps to be installed. She then proceeded to hold her hand over her chest area and fell over on the ground crying. My worker offered to call for medical assistance, and then [redacted] jumped up off the ground and acted normal. My worker was nervous and when he had seen her reaction, He stated to her Please do not do that kind off stuff anymore, because it is scary to witness and he knew her actions weren't genuine. Through the course of this job [redacted] wantred a washer and dryer hook to be installed on the second floor, so we infoirmed to her that we could not go any further until the electrical and plumbing on the added project were completed. I contacted an electrician and he told me that her electrical panel was full. And needed an upgrade of a 200 amp service. For the panel and other random electrical items that had to be fixed in order to pass electrical inspection She then made a payment which was used tor material and labor, After it was used already towards the sill money still owed to me. [redacted] decided she was going to tell my worker that the payment was supposed to be for the electrical work and this job she had previously promised to give me a payment of $ 1,000 towards the balance owed on the completed sill work. After the extra escavation wortk was completed. It took over 6 weeks of extra work. She was constantly complaining to us. She was like this on a daily basis, She would yell at me, threaten. me and started saying she would take me to court and sue me if her job wasn't getting done quicker. I continuously told her [redacted] we already had to do all of this rxtra work which I had made her very aware of the potential. But it was much worse than anyone had anticipated. My employee worked up to the middle of December at a 50% discounted rate which was $110 dollars per day. He had 1 day to finish the cultered stone which requires staging work. He explained to [redacted] that the staging wouldn't be available for another 2 days and he would get it finished. [redacted] told my employee she didn't want to wait the 2 days. So he told her the only other option was to rent some staging, Which she did decide to do. So my employee went out of his way to go and pick the staging up in Manchester New Hampshire that same day. When he got back, he then set all of the staging up so he could start fresh the next day. She agreed on the $110 per day all along. Then all of the sudden she proceeds to tell my employee that she would only pay him $50 dollars for the days work it would take to finish the cultered stone. He explained to [redacted] that he was only charging her at 1/2 price of his normal $220 dollars per day salary, and he was only doing so due to the fact that he knew how much money that his boss had already had to put into the job out of his own pocket. Which was in exxess of $3,500 dollars. To that point. He explained all of this to [redacted] and said call me when you have the $110 for me per day and I will happily come back to work on your job. As for me everytime I have attempted to speak with [redacted] its impossibkle due to the fact that she yells and screams at me so loudly. Throughout the course of this whenever my son went to the job site to grab tools [redacted] would tell hill he couldn't touch anything. And to this day she still refuses us and myself access to my tools and equipment, I want to make 1 thing clear. I never walked off or abandoned any job site. [redacted] hasn't called us back yet to discuss the extra work she needs to rough in before I can get a sign off on her inspection. Please note that I would go back to her job as long as [redacted] can be respectful as I am, and always have been to her. She needs to call me back and stop all of her yelling and constant bickering and complaining first.
