On July 14th a *** *** *** 125hp outboard boat was dropped off with running issues.Info taken from R/O - Unit will turn over but will not fire up at all, Customer has changed the spark plugs and has fresh fuel in itPlease diagnose.July 29th We were able to get take first look
(Time frame is longer then we would like but not uncommon in our industry during busy months in summer)Tech found spark was not meeting specs, need to remove flywheel - Customer gave permission to do the work.August 5th remove fly wheel to check stator connections and magnets for rustFound that glue has let go and magnet not in proper place and stator contacts are rustyCustomer was given option to replace or fix he chose to fixAugust 9th Glued magnet back let glue dry fullyAugust 10thPut flywheel back on Engine now wants to fire has spark but starter kicks out and gets hot may have to replace starter.August 23rd Customer was contacted and told the situationInformed us *** *** *** *** * *** *** *** we charged him for doing nothing and we broke his starterHe picked up the boat very emotional and would not listen or have a conversation*** dealt with him, even with his erratic behavior she was very polite and apologized for the delay and that it took longer then it should have for someone to contact him. The customer was very upset, Steven got involved and the customer was polity told that the engine came in with electrical issues and that problem was the voltage out put was not meeting specs and gluing the magnets back on fixed that issueTo get the engine running we would need to replace the starterIt turns over the engine but it kicks out and gets hot so it's not running long enough to start the engineCustomer *** *** *** ** *** *** *** claimed we broke the starterThe customer was then informed that the engine is a and is years old, starters do need replacing after time. The time frame was longer then we it should have been especially between last repair and contact with the customer we had someone leave on vacation and the ro was miss placed but that's not an excuseWe did apologize for thatBut the engine came in with an electrical problem and the issue was found and fixedOur tech spent hours diagnosing and repairing electrical issues and that is what the customer was charged forBeing a year old engine starters are a wearable item and it left the shop the in same condition it came inI believe the starter was on it's last legs and when the customer was having starting issues I'm guessing it burnt it out while he was trying to fix the running issuesThe RO does say customer worked on the engine to try and get it started.I have attached a copy of the ROAgain the boat engine is a 1986. Thank yoiuSteven E***
