our windows were measured - and apparently everything was good to go - we got the paperwork we needed to apply for Government help in our retrofit.
Time for install - to save many words - we had been very specific in the instruction - no window wells. Not even for the one being made larger...our house is uphill from the street and landscaping to make sure code was met is an easy fit. NO NO NO to window well. Not in contract - DO NOT install!
After having this mansplained to me by the installers, the project manager and the inspector - and salesman who came to make sure everyone knew that was not part of the contract - no one was listening.
I go pick up some groceries- and come back to job being complete - including with window well.
request for removal - day comes & goes due to heavy rain - next attempt at an appointment- would prefer the hubby or son-in-law is home because they would not be treated with the same condescending attitude I received. no further contact received.
here is my biggest issue - I understand that the window has to be a certain amount of space above the earth- the well however sticks out beyond the eave that has always protected that window- we have never had to remove snow from in front of it and rain never got close to the wall. I now have a well that is capable of getting wet close to wall and snow can be trapped in it - not to mention the bunny we had to rescue from it (they actually piled the dirt up against the well as a hill?). The view from a larger window shows less than the smaller one did cuz all can see is galvanized steel from our short a
give up -go figure out WTF can be done about this mess - to find broken pieces of glass and a pile of screws left behind.
makes me feel their escape was done in a hurry before I saw the well prior to them leaving.
sadly the install itself was done very quickly and ahead of schedule - the caulking on the front window was done in such a way that my son-in-law would have been made to redo (he is a commercial glacier) but other than that all would have been well- we thought...
post energy audit - window stickers all left on as instructed - to find out that the ones required were never put on in the first place- which cost us some of the loan that we had originally applied for, only 4 of the 9 windows were approved.
I am grateful to have windows I can open in my living room and happy I can cross the windows off the to do list but had to add dealing with window well as another project so no feeling of accomplishment has been attained.
For all the good that did happen through out this process- the end result had an impact that left a nasty taste...
