EconoLodge Harrisburg/Hershey Reviews (1)

Review: Because of my job and the travel involved,I had been staying at the Econo Lodge at [redacted], Pa for about 5 months now with an agreement from the manager at a reduced rate. On the days of 9/9/2013 through 9/13/2013 (4 nights)I signed the rate agreement on check in that stated the agreed rate of $45.00 a night. Upon checkout the rate was changed to $62.96 a night. I told the owner of the hotel that I was not made aware of the rate change for those nights and I would like the original rate agreed upon and that I would be fine with the new rate for my future stays. He immediately stated shouting at me, telling me I was made aware at check in of the rate change, contrary to the rate agreement slip that I had signed, then started waving his hands in the air (still shouting)telling me to get out and he was going to call the police and that I am not welcome at his hotel and proceeded to cancel my next weeks stay. I told him I would love to talk to the police about this and he slammed the phone down, came from behind the counter and told me to "get out" in an aggressive and threatening manner. Econo Lodge is a brand offered by Choice hotels. Choice hotels pulled up my receipts and agreed that they see my rate was changed after the first night of that week. They then informed me that there is nothing they could do about it. The Econo Lodge blind sided me with a rate increase I was not informed about until check-out and was not the same rate as agreed upon that they have been honoring for the past 5 months and contradicting the rate on the check-in agreement slip.Desired Settlement: I am looking to pay only the agreed rate and not the increased rate that they changed after my checking agreement of 45.00 a night. The bill should be, for four nights at 45.00 a night plus tax, $199.80 and not $279.00. The attached photo shows the recipt and how after the first night (Monday 9-9-2013) shows the charge of $45.00 and how on the second night (Tuesday 9-10-2013) the rate was changed.

Subject: Case ID: [redacted]

**. [redacted] did not have a contracted rate with us. **. [redacted] did have a discounted rate and was informed that is there will be an increase in his rate. **. [redacted] became abusive to us on his last day and was asked to leave.

There may have been a discussion concerning rates between **. [redacted] and the former owner/management team for this hotel in April 2013. Begining in April, **. [redacted] was being charged a discounted rate of $45.00 per night plus the related taxes. When the new owner and management team took over this hotel there was a discussion with **. [redacted]. At that time, we agreed to continue to honor the old discounted rate for only a short period of time.

Beginning in September his new rate, ($62.96 per night plus the related taxes), was to take effect. The increase for other guest room rates took effect in August. Out of courtesy to **. [redacted], for his stay on September 3 - 6 2013, **. [redacted]' old deep discounted rate was still in effect. However the correction to his new rate was made for his stay of September 9 - 13 2013.

Unfortunately, on September 13, 2013, when he questioned our team about the rate, this discussion became confrontational and abusive. We felt that unwanted racial comments were made toward us and we asked **. [redacted] to leave our hotel before police intervention would be required. It is regrettable that several months of a good relationship had to end this way.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Sincerely,

Consumer

I am rejecting this response because:

I was never informed, ever, that a rate increase was initiated. Their statement that I was informed of this is untrue. Upon check in I was required to sign a rate agreement and the rate stated was $45 a night. It was then switched as the receipt I provided reflects.Their claim of saying I became abusive is also untrue. It was the owner who became threatening when I inquired about the increase. Now the most upsetting statement I read in the response letter from the Econ Lodge was the claim I made "unwanted racial comments". This statement as well as other statements in their response letter is totally untrue. I asked Choice hotels to view the hotels security cameras to see how the owner "came at me" from behind the counter. I hope they do to show how I was treated.
