Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/11/30) */
Mr*** states that he wants "a structurally sound and cosmetically acceptable building"The building has been built to exceed Minnesota State Building Codes; therefore it is, and has been since construction, "structurally sound"
Jamie
***, Economy Garages' Production Manager, did meet Mr*** on site with the contractor that built the structureIt was agreed upon to add additional screws to give them a more visually appealing pattern which has been done
One steel corner was damaged along with a few panelsThe corner was replacedIt was found that one of the panels were damaged from the factory but was not seen until the packing was removed at the siteThe reordered panel had to be ordered for a third time due to damage either from the factory or transportationWe removed the packaging prior to going to the site due to the original factory-damaged issue which has delayed our Quality Control Specialist from completing the projectWe are still waiting for the panel to arrive but do expect it to be delivered to us this week
During the meeting with Mr*** it was discussed that minor scratching is common with steel panels due to how they are manufactured through a series of rollers and sliding onto the stack of previously formed piecesEconomy Garages agreed to purchase toupaint for his building which Mr*** would apply as he likedThe paint was purchased and will be delivered when we install the final panelIf Mr*** would like additional paint, Economy Garages would have some shipped to his residence
The roof had a couple of areas that the felt or ice barrier buckled slightlyThe repair of this issue is to remove shingles from the area to correct the felt or ice barrier then reapply shinglesThis does not require a removal of all shingles, felt and ice barrierEconomy Garages will correct the remaining roof issues following the arrival of the steel panel
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2015/12/06) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
In response to Economy Garage's response to my complaint:
I would argue that any building with a roofing problem is not structurally sound at least not in the long term
The additional screws that were added were to correct sloppy work by the contractor in which some panels had screws on every rib, some had screws every other rib and some only every third ribWhile this was primarily a cosmetic issue it looked like garbage having such inconsistent screw placement
The issue of scratched steel panels is far more serious than I think Mr*** realizesNearly every steel siding panel is scratchedSome are scratched nearly the entire length of the rib while some scratches are more minorThere is no way in *** that this is for steel panel sidingI have a year old steel panel sided Morton building sitting feet away from this building and there are no scratches on it that I can see, other than some minor scratching that has occurred since constructionThere are a couple of scratches on the steel that appear to have been made by a spinning saw blade making contact with the steelThe other scratches occur mainly on the ribs but also do occur on the flat areas
Perhaps this is a bad batch of steel siding from the manufacturerIf this is the quality then it is the world's lowest quality steel siding available and is hopefully not a standard acceptable to Economy GarageIt is not acceptable to meApplication of touch up paint is not going to work
On Friday December 4th, one of Economy Garage's employees did come to replace the missing steel panel and to observe the scratches on the other panels and the stained panelsEven the brand new piece of steel siding he brought was scratched in two placesHe attempted to cover the scratches with some touch up paint but it did not match the original paint at all and stands out badlyIn the days before his arrival I had marked as many scratch locations as I could find with blue painter's tapeIn some instances the tape marks a single scratch but in most locations it marks a long area of scratchesThe long pieces of tape that are higher on the wall of the building indicate scratching that goes higher than I could reach from a step ladderEconomy Garage's employee observed this scratching and photographs taken and supplied to themI will attempt to attach photos to this response also
Their employee felt reasonably sure he could replace the damaged shingle as well as fix the several buckled areas if he could get the work done while the temps were still reasonably warmI took him at his word and agreed to their method of repair with the understanding that I would be coming back to them should the repaired areas stand out from the rest of the roof and any time a shingle is damaged and they seem prone to being damaged at this timeAt this time the roofing that had been previously repaired by this employee stands out quite obviously and does not look like work from a professional contractor businessI am very skeptical that they will be able to repair the buckled and damaged areas and have the shingles match to any sort of reasonable standard
At this time I am not satisfied with the response from Economy Garage and do NOT consider the matter resolved
I have tried numerous times to attach additional items by using the "choose file" button below and have not been able to make it work
Final Business Response /* (4000, 13, 2015/12/31) */
I do not have a definite time for the inspection at this time but I would like to give an update with all of the information I haveThe Fabral representative for Mr***' area is no longer with the company and they are in the process of filling the positionWe were told that Fabral is trying to fill the void by using a representative from a different territory along with an office staff positionDue to this, it has been very difficult to solidify a meeting timeEconomy Garages is continuing to push for a meeting time and will contact Mr*** as soon as we can get the company to set a date and time
Final Consumer Response /* (2000, 16, 2016/01/15) */
