Ed Buckley Painting and Custom Carpentry Reviews (1)

Review: In May 2014, I hired this contractor for $400 to refinish part of my hardwood floor because there were some major scratches and gouges. Right after he did the work, the quality could not be immediately evaluated because drying time was needed. After it dried, the work looked very bad. I showed him the photos via text. He agreed that the work was not satisfactory and said he would fix it. On three occasions he failed to show up to do the repair. These three appointments were also spaced widely apart because there were periods of time where he would not respond to my texts/calls. After the third time, he agreed to refund my money. On three occasions, he promised he would be dropping off the $400 and he did not show up. Both in regards to the repair appointments and the appointments to drop off the money, he only made these plans with me after I reminded him that I would be filing a claim with my local small claims court (however, I have decided to try Revdex.com first). I had another contractor give me an estimate on the repair. He informed that it is not even possible to refinish part of a hardwood floor and have it look good. However, I did not have the expectation that this partial refinish job would be 100% seamless with the rest of the floor. The scratching was pretty bad and my intent was to get this part of the floor refinished as a temporary measure until I was ready to redo the whole floor. The issue is not simply that it is not blending well enough with the rest of the floor. The badly refinished area is lumpy, rough, and unevenly colored on a large section of the floor. This is worse then the original problem since a larger section of the floor had this poor refinishing done than the actual area of the scratches since the whole area around the scratches needed to be included in the refinishing. Now, in addition to losing $400, I am in a worse position than I was before regarding the condition of the floor. However, instead of pursing a larger claim, I am willing to settle for the $400 refundDesired Settlement: $400 refund - the amount that I paid for the poorly performed work. The service contact I am attaching shows the amount paid as $400. However, there was subsequently a $50 discount because the contractor did not come to the first appointment to do the work due to a problem with the contractor renting the needed equipment on the planned appointment date and having to reschedule.
