Review: On 9/11/13 Mr. Mele was hired to remove and replace the roof on my 500 square-foot summer home in [redacted]. At that time he was given $2,500 as a deposit for work materials and hired help.From 11/25/13 to 12/3/13 Mr. Mele was given checks totaling an additional $15,000 towards the completion of the work and for more supplies. He was to change the slope of the roof and make other changes to prolong the life of the new roof. The total amount given to Mr. Mele was $17,500.Mr. Mele removed the roof on 11/15/14 after several weeks of not responding to my queries. However, because he did not cover the roof properly and did not replace the roof all winter the house sustained significant water damage. My new contractor gave me an estimate of $4,000 to repair the interior ceilings and repaint.From December 2013 to March 2014 I contacted Mr. Mele numerous times without receiving a reply. After he missed the March 26th deadline I had imposed in order to get this summer home ready for the season I decided to terminate Mr. Meles services and I retained an attorney. My attorney contacted Mr. Mele and asked for the return of $15,000 which represents the total amount provided minus the $2,500 deposit to cover the cost of removing the roof. This amount did not include the estimated cost of damage as said damage was not appraised at that time.On 6/2/14 Mr. Mele sent a check for $9,756. In his accounting he did not account for the initial $2,500 payment, though he did deduct it to arrive at the amount he repaid me. He also deducted other costs with no backup paperwork. Mr. Mele has charged me a total of $7,744 for the removal of the roof. According to the contractor I had to hire to repair the damage caused by Mr. Mele, the estimated time to remove a roof for a 500 square-foot home such as mine would be 2 days work for two men. I have not received any receipts from him for work supplies and cannot confirm that any supplies were purchased other than the tarps that were improperly securedDesired Settlement: I am asking that Mr. Mele pay: $4,000 to address the damage he caused to my home $2,500 (what he deducted from his labor cost but not to my total outlay for his work) $4,600 (labor cost for 3 days work for two men, I added an extra day to the estimate given)Total: $11,100
