Edinboro Lake Resort Reviews (1)

Review: I stayed at the Edinboro Lake Resort June 17-19, 2013 and received a receipt for $265.00 for two nights (the man charging our card could not tell us what the nightly rate was, he said "it just says to charge you this much in the book"). Upon review of my credit card statement, I found a charge for an additional $79.50 and called on July 9th to find out what it was for. The owner said he'd check on the charge.By July 17th, when I'd still heard nothing, I called back and he said he'd forgotten to check on it.After going through his records, he said the charge was for a late check-out and a pet fee. I told him I have no receipt for these charges and he said it was probably because I checked out late and didn't check out properly. When I've stayed here in years past, the "policy" was to leave the key in the cabin upon departure.I asked about the pet policy and he said he doesn't publish it because it scares off non-pet owners.I asked how I would ever know that there was a pet policy and he said there's always been a policy and if I asked anyone that ever stayed there with a pet they'd tell me there was always a charge for pets. He also mentioned that these "policies" are "the same as as they are in every other hotel." When I asked about an invoice for a late check-out (I don't remember what time we checked out)he said he probably has a housekeeping record (how this verifies my check-out time, I'm still unsure). He said "did you not have a late check-out?" I said I don't remember and I have no record. He suggested I ask my husband who stayed with me.He said "He'll know what time you checked out."I said that is not a record and he said "what do you want from me."I mentioned that I wanted a refund because I signed no agreement about pets, I had no record or invoice of a late check-out and he can't charge my card without my knowledge. After arguing with me, he told me never to ever try to book there again and hung up on me.I called back & was upset,he said call back when I've got myself together & hung up.Desired Settlement: I've disputed this charge to my bank because these were charges I did not agree to and was not aware of. If the claim goes unresolved by my bank, I want a refund from the business owner. This practice is borderline, if not completely, illegal.

Response:

Customer checked into cabin number three on June 17,paid for two nights $250. Checkout is 11 AM, housekeeping reported at 12:30 pm that the cabin was still occupied and had a pet, that was not checked in. Called The customer at 1 PM, left voicemail, customer never called back, customer checked out between 3 and 4 PM. I charge their credit card on file, for $75 plus tax. $40 for the posted late checkout fee, $35 for the pet fee. customer called me mid-July, she acknowledged that she had the pet, and was vague on the late checkout. Just felt she got away with it, and wanted the refund. I told her to dispute the charge with her credit card company, and I would not fight it. I was told this was the best way to handle the dispute and refund her money. Additionally I told her she was barred from staying here.
