New patient at this office. Told them before we came to office that I had medicare only for my exam and I had prepaid my insurance company for my glasses as I am retired from [redacted] and this eye doctor office is in my network. When I arrived at the office and filled out information the receptionist said they had already checked with my insurance company and didn't say anything about having to pay anything else. My wife also said at that time that I had medicare for the exam and had prepaid for my glasses. After receiving the exam and picking out my glasses I received an itemized statement saying 0 balance due, 0 other open items and 0 no payment necessary. This was on May 14, 2013. On 10-25-13 I get a bill for $25.00 and $14.80 total $39.80 past due. Spoke to office manager on 10-28-13 named [redacted] and she said the office should have charged me $25.00 for my eye prescription called a refraction and $14.80 copay for my eye exam. She said she was going to speak to the office about this and they thought they'd get more money from my insurance. But, again, when I first came in, the receptionist said she had already checked with my insurance company and knew what was covered. I just question this because I never paid anything extra out of my pocket before. I have the same coverage, medicare and [redacted] Vision through [redacted] and have always had the same exam done. I came to this office as my old eye doctor retired and this office was in my network and close for me to drive to.
