Edward H. Williams, Sr. Reviews (1)

Review: E.H. Williams was hired to replace a leaking porch roof and ensure that no further water damage occur to structure. E.H. Williams engineered and installed a faultily designed roofing system that has continually leaked from the first day of installation in late April 2012.

We spoke to [redacted] several days after the $2,120 new porch roof was completed and had leaked for the 2nd time and we informed him that we did not have faith in his design and installation and were hesitant to pay for the job. [redacted] proceeded to inform us that they did not want unhappy customers and would keep coming back until the job was completed right and the leak was fixed, even if that exceeded the standard 1 year warranty period. We mistakenly then paid him in full for this roof job.

E.H. Williams was notified of leaks at least 5 times. Their attempted solution was to apply caulk several times higher up on house roof and assign blame there.

His last "warranty" call in October 2012 resulted in us being sent a statement informing us that the work they had done was fine, any further calls to them about this leaking roof would result in us being charged $35 per man hour.

We have since had a licensed roofing contractor look at the roof and they informed us of the following mistakes made by E.H. Williams;

He removed the existing rain gutter and flashing materials from family room roof where rebuilt porch roof attaches and did not integrate new roof into this exposed seam. It was a mistake to remove the rain gutter, and if it had to be removed the new rubber roof should have been placed 2 or 3 rows of shingles up onto the family roof roof. This would have prevented any water from getting between the rubber roof and the ceiling, which has now been in various stages of continual wetness since April of 2012.

They also informed us that the wrong type of adhesive material was used by E.H. Williams to hold down the rubber roofing materials. They also informed us that there is no way that the problem of water penetration was coming from further up on the family room roof, the problem was in the seam between the rubber roof and family room roof and it was not joined together properly and now needs to be redone.

We are only asking for a partial refund as E.H. Williams did replace some rotting posts and other wood that will not have to be replaced. We are asking for a refund of $1,145.60.Desired Settlement: Refund us the difference between E.H. Williams first bid to us of $974.40 and the $2,120 we paid for a full porch roof design and rebuild, including troubleshooting and changing the pitch. The difference is $1,145.60. We need this refund very soon or we will be forced to pursue legal action.
