Review: On September 16, 2013 two Edward Hughes technicians came to my home to my home to perform a perform pre-season inspection of my heating system. At the conclusion of the visit, they demanded payment of $75, which I paid. The diagnosis was a completely dead gas valve, which the techs said needed to be replaced, with an estimated cost of $650. They also quoted me $3,750 to replace my system entirely.

Several days later, I went downstairs to look at the furnace myself. I noticed that the main power lead connecting to the valve had been unplugged; it had been pulled off of the male plug on the valve. When I plugged the wire back in, the valve functioned perfectly, the furnace works exactly as it is supposed to, and in fact is heating my home as I write this.

The only conclusion that can be reached is that the Edward Hughes technicians intentionally unplugged the valve in an attempt to fraudulently sell me a new furnace system.

I have made several attempts to contact the company, both by phone as well as in writing, but have received no response.Desired Settlement: Refund of $75 paid plus reimbursement for time and expenses incurred.

Review: I had Hughes plumbing over to repair a malfunctioning heater, they charged me $250. for a [redacted] which did not make the heater work. Then the guy cut the thermostat wire but he told me he had no tools to test the current in the wire. He put it back together and he got the heater to turn on using the on / off button on the thermostat. I asked him what was the problem he said he had no idea. The heater will not turn on using the temp button on the thermostat, only the on & off button will turn it on sometimes. I also want to say they they installed the thermostat too but at at an earlier date. I have been calling their number to get this fixed only to get false promises of service appointments.Desired Settlement: I want a refund of the money for the unneeded repairs that they already performed so I can get a reputable plumber

Review: On 10/24/2014, I hired Hughes company to fix the heater. A technician name Edward Hughes examined the heater, and offered me two options, to fix the heater and change the gas valve for $525.00, or to replace the heater for $2500. I accept to choose the repair, and to Waite on replacement for next season. By 10/26/2014, the heater broke down again, and I called the company. They gave me running around, and after many efforts, on 10/28/2014,the technician Edward examined the heater , and apologized that it was another problem that he didn't notice at first time. He stated a crack on the drum release air that shut off the pilot, and cannot be repaired. I asked for an estimate for new heater, and refund my $525.00, but he stated that he will take $125.00 service fee, and give me only $400.00 back, Upon receding an estimate from Hughes Edward, I emailed with many questions, but was no response. I shopped for another company, and I decided to go with a different company. As I asked Mr.Edward for refund, he said he will not refund not the whole $400.00, and he asked to remove the part that he installed, and will meet me to pick it up, and refund some money, but not the whole $400.I removed the part(gas valve) I text him many time, I emailed him, but he change his wards, and gave me running around, and denied what he said.Desired Settlement: The technician Edward Hughes fail to diagnose at first visit, no customer will pay $525.00 knowing that the heater won't work, and no contractor will offer to repair a heater knowing that wont work.At first contact, Mr Edward stated that the service fee is $75.00, and if I choose to hire him, it will be credited toward repair costs. He requested to have him back the gas valve that he installed, in order for me to get my money back, but then he change his ward. He is entitle only to $75.00 servd

From: [redacted] <[redacted]>Date: Thu, Dec 11, 2014 at 8:21 PMSubject: Re: You have a new message from the Revdex.com of Metro Washington DC & Eastern Pennsylvania in regards to your complaint #[redacted].To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]>Cc: [redacted] <[redacted]>Re complaint:[redacted]This is to inform you that on Dec. 09/2014, I did contact Hughes heating/ plumbing by phone and by email, asked for peaceful solution, but they ignored all of my phone calls, emails, and texts. This company failed to repair, and over charged me. The average price for changing the heating gas valve, is $300.00. I was charged $525.00, and the heater didn't work. Hughes company didn't do actual repair to trap their customer, and to force them for one repair after another. When they gave me an estimate for heater replacement, I realized that their job is half way, to insure that I'll call them back for the same job, and pay extra money. They gave me many running around to schedule another time to fix the same problem. Once they got paid at first, they never return calls, unless there another job with more money. They are not loyal to their customers, they are not honest, and they are a rip off. They should not be in business. They are not truthful, and they they deny what they said. For example: they offer me $400.00 credit toward new furnace, but the price was average without credit. They offer to refund my money if I return back the gas valve, but they changed their mind, deny what they said. They lied about carbon monoxide, to scare me, and to force me for a new heater, while they never run a test for carbon monoxide, beside carbon monoxide has nothing to do with the repair. The technician Edward stated that all what it need, was a new gas valve. If they didn't cooperate, I'll file a complaint in municipal court.Thank u [redacted]Sent from my [redacted]

Bait and switch . They tried to charge me for additional work that was not neccesity and another plumber repaired some damage that Hughes did. Hughes also left their trash. I would not recommend this plumbers to anyone

Review: After completing initial service to replace a broken HVAC unit, the roof was not properly sealed and we experienced a major leak inside the house. It took over 6 months to have the issue repaired and there were more than 5 missed appointments - with no call or notification from the business. I repeatedly asked to speak with Management and was denied. I arranged to stay home from work at least 5 different days and no one from the company showed up as scheduled (even though I received a call the night before confirming the appointment). When someone did finally show up, they did not do so within the window (morning) as requested and promised.Desired Settlement: I want the work completed once and for all and would also like a written apology as well as a warning to other consumers about this business and their complete disregard for customer service and meeting commitments.

Review: I had a new tub, vanity and sliding glass doors to shower installed. The installation of the glass doors was not done properly. When entering the shower the doors is slanted and the slides downhill on its own. There was no handle installed on shower door. Only one screw is attached to door to secure it. This door will not take daily usage without coming apart. Also the pre-existing towel rack was removed, and no replacement was installed. Numerous phone calls have been made to rectify this problem, but I have received no response by owner.Desired Settlement: For the owner to honor his 10 year contract and repair and install the shower door properly so that it does not slide on its own. Remove old shower rod from over tub.

Review: I had the inner workings of a toilet replecd. The plumber was ghere less than 15 minutes. I sent a $100 check that same day. I received an excessive bill for $250. I immediately called and asked for a detailed breakdown of the charges. For over a year now I have not recievd that breakdown. I have called from home and the firm will not disclose the service charge or hourly rate. On 09-17-2013 I received a call from an employee and was told that the fee was reduced to $100. I worte another check for $25 which ZI feel is a fair price. A few weeks earlieranemployee of the firm picked up another &75 check. after they claimed that they did not get the $100 check. I am currently waiting for a copy of the cancelled check. They have been harassing on the phone and still refuse to provide a detailed breakdown of the bill. I have also mentioned numerous times from July 2012 to Febrauary 2013 that the toliet continued to run and never worked properly. I had to have the probelm repaired again and decided to replace the whole toliet for a total of $80 installed.
