Edward J Construction Reviews (1)

Review: [redacted] owner of [redacted] Construction, was a contractor I hired to do a kitchen remodel at my new home. I feel it is my duty to report the abusive and fraudulent nature of the contractor. [redacted] of [redacted] Construction severely underperformed and misled us with his devious tactics, failure to keep up his promises, unprofessionalism, overall unsatisfactory result of work performed. His omission of the money he was paid in advance when he presented the final bill is fraudulent. We went into an agreement with set pricing for the job ($3000-$3500max). My job was very time sensitive and that was a extremely important part of giving this job to Ed. He proceeded to show up late, not show up at all some days and exhausted our budget and limited funds for the job. We had just moved in and needed the job done as quickly as possible and he fell dramatically short of delivering on his promises. His average show up time was 10am. He also would leave the job on average around 3-4pm. He was hired as a full time contractor and never could give us an 8 hour day. I informed him at the beginning of the job, if he needed any materials to continue, to notify me. I was to pay for all materials for the job, and I would get him anything he needed. He had run out of screws for the drywall and failed to notify me and started using nails- I let him know I wanted my drywall hung with screws. He proceeded with the nails and never addressed my concern and request to use screws. He also put in a soft fit to avoid moving a gas line a couple feet which took away from the goal of opening up the ceiling space. He charged me for install of the kitchen sink and when he ran into a leaky angle stop he gave up and I had to hire someone else to put in the angle stops and complete the faucet install. He also tried to make the icemaker connection with an exposed valve work that wouldnt give me the counter depth finish I needed on the refrigerator. I had to hire someone to recess the ice maker box in the wall- standard install for an icemaker. His paint job was subpar. He left a lot of unfinished lines that bled over into the opposing walls. On the outside of the brand new window, which he installed, there was a ton of overspray that I had to clean up with paint thinner. He did some touch ups with the wrong color paint all over the place.Payment/Materials:One week into the job I wrote an advance check for $1000 for labor and gave him $500 for materials and asked for receipts. I only received a receipt for the window which was $240. This left $1260 towards the total for the job. He presented the itemized job bill to my wife and failed to state that he received the $1000 advance on the job prior to completion. He also didnt mention or provide receipts for the $260 remaining in an advance for construction supplies. He presented a bill for $3,550 for the job and my wife paid him via check even though that was over the max budget of $3500. With the $1000 advance he was now way over budget at $4550 and never returned the $260 in the materials advance.Total paid was $4810 My wife was tricked into thinking she was paying him in full for the amount of $3810.I brought this to his attention and asked for a refund in the amount of $1,000 and he will not return my callsEd was an extremely unpleasant, dishonest and untrustworthy individual. His work was so bad we couldnt take anymore from him and we abandoned the idea of giving him more work we had planned. I want to make sure he doesnt do this to anymore people so Im making this complaint to hopefully prevent that from happening to his future customers.Sincerely,Jon LangDesired Settlement: $1,000He misled my wife by omitting the fact I prepaid him $1,000 for labor half way through thte project. She thought she was paying the entire amount of the job onec it was completed
