My contract with this school was terminated unfairly and unjustly. I never received a fair investigation regarding the allegations brought against me. I was forced into an office with a male administrative staff alone. During that conversation I was very scared and uncomfortable.Mr. K was using a very aggressive tone and body language as he accused me of me of something I never said. He told me I was guilty and never once asked my side of the story. I have no previous write ups from this facility what's so ever. With only a 4 weeks left until graduation this unfair termination has affected my life traumatically, just told guilty of making threats. I have written proof from witnesses stating that staff from Empire never questioned them about the day this incident occurred, which seems to me like a very biased investigation. I was found guilty without the chance of being able to be proven guilty and that is unfair. 3 days after this alleged investigation took place, I received an email from Mr.K*** stating that I violated Empires policy and that my contract was terminated. I sent a follow up email requesting a meeting with him self, the executive director and get boss to discuss this unfair termination and never received a response back.

here I have attached to screenshot of text messages to witnesses that were there the day of the incident and they state that Mr K did not come and get their side of the story which supports my complaint and saying that I was unfairly terminated from my contract from school.

In response to the complaint filed by Complainant ID. Empire Beauty School has zero tolerance for any forms of violence, threats, offensive language or aggressive behavior.

Empire Beauty School Bloomington Minnesota conducted an investigation and concluded Complainant ID violated Empire Beauty School’s code of conduct. Students are made aware of this policy upon enrollment, it can be found in the Empire Beauty School Catalog.

Due to the severity of the incident that took place March 12, 2020, the Complainant is not welcome to attend any Empire Beauty School campus.

We wish *** success in her future endeavors.

Respectfully,

Tina N. Director, Office of President

I'm attending Empire Beauty School in Malden, I have been attending since summer 2018. When I started I was pregnant, my baby came early (6 months) obviously I had to leave school to give birth and then more time off because my child was in the intense care unit for 3 months. I obviously was out of school for a long time, passed the 14 day mark and got withdrawn from school. And I understood that, I was told that policy of being absent 14 days in a row, you get withdrawn. However, I did come back and re-enrolled. I filled out all the same paperwork as I did the fist time I enrolled AND they had me fill out financial aid again. So, they're getting paid again. The school is getting paid again for me re-enrolling a second time. Now, what they did NOT explain to me was that if they transferred my hours from the first time I was enrolled to this second time, that my attendance percentage would be bad. Yes, once I got back into the school the second time they let me know my percentage was low. However, by then it's too late and I have no choice but to stick with what I have. It isn't fair. If I had been told the first time I got dropped that this would happen I would've requested to start from 0 hours again. Start fresh, I wouldn't have minded them getting paid again because I'd be starting from scratch. Instead they made it seem that transferring my hours to the next re-enrollment would be a good idea. Turns out it's horrible. I came back October, 2019 and they made me drop a SECOND time. Saying I don't have a choice, because I already took all the modules that I had to drop again for a month and come back.. doesn't make a lot of sense. I asked if they were going to make me pay again and they said no. I thought it was sketchy, but I want to continue finish and succeed with empire and pursue my goals, but as soon as I'm back to school I'm in "warning" because my attendance percentage is too low due to lack of attendance from MY FIRST time enrolled. Not due to my second time because I JUST started again in December. I'm at a 59% and need to be at 75%, how cruel and unfair to put that kind of pressure on a person. I am a mother now, I work AND go to school. First half of my day is at work and the rest of my evening/night I'm at empire. Can't even be 10 min late without that adding up to time missing. I have proof of my baby being in the hospital for 3 months, I also have proof of me attending a two week day program for my mental health which I was suffering with at the time as well. Not only did Empire get paid again, they are now telling me I need to fill out another financial aid.. so does that mean they'll get paid for a third time????? It is not fair that they got paid a second time around for my re-enrollment, yet they have me on warning and stressed that i'll be getting dropped from school when I JUST got ack. & I've been working hard at it. I've been going to school, sure I missed a few days here and there due to being sick. I'm not the only person missing days for being sick. Missed a day or two because my child is sick. Other than that, I show up to class and I work hard to get the class work done. They get paid for a full tuition when I re-enroll but they can't at least provide me with a new bag of school products, because when I left the first time I left behind my first bag. It was an emergency I couldn't go get my things. I had to go to the hospital. They get paid again and I JUST got back, and I'm getting told I might get dropped already. Does that make a lot of sense to anyone?? it's unfair and puts a lot of stress on a student who didn't know what would happen. And got told too late about the situation. Ridiculous. It almost seems like they did that on purpose to get more money. I'm a good person and too nice, I trust people when they say something but it does not look like they have my best interest. It makes absolutely zero sense to get payment for another re-enrollment yet my hours are the same and I don't get the chance to start from 0 as I deserve. I didn't get dropped the first time due to me not showing up from laziness or from lack of work. I gave birth early, that was out of my control. My child had to be in the hospital until she got better for a log time, that is also out of my control. I feel like I'm being punished and it's a horrible thing for any establishment to do to people.

Complaint Analyst,

In response to the complaint filed by ***. *** began classes in the cosmetology program at the Malden campus on July 30, 2018, in the full time program. Prior to *** beginning classes, she met with the Executive Director to review her educational plan as well as other enrollment documents.
Unfortunately, *** ran into complications with her child delivery, which caused her to miss class. *** was withdrawn from the program after missing 14 consecutive calendar days, per Empire Beauty School policy.
When *** reenrolled, she reenrolled into the part time Cosmetology program. The module rotation is not the same for full time and part time enrollment. *** passed curriculums in the full time program that she could not retake in the part time program (Empire policy). This was explained to *** in the education plan that she signed.
The above module difference is what caused *** to drop on 8/1/19. The module she needed to continue with her education was not available until December, which is when *** reentered.

Empire Beauty School’s tuition is prorated based on attendance. Refunds to ***’s financial aid and charges are visible on the student’s ledger card.

*** was informed upon reenrollment she needs to attend 100% and do additional makeup work in order to successfully complete the program. Since ***’s return to the program, she has not been following through on what she needs to do.

I have had conversations with *** and explained the tuition process as well as the importance of her attendance. *** stated she had a better understanding of the situation.

Respectfully, Tina N.
Office of President Empire Beauty Schools

I owe a balance of $4,000 and some odd dollars to this school. I should not in the first place because I withdrew within less than 2 months. Although I felt they were unjustly taking my money, I was making payments. Lately when I've tried to make payments, they NEVER answer the phone to take the payment. Instead they direct you to a voicemail and say they will call you back which they do not. I haven't been able to pay lately (because of them, not for lack of trying) and then today I get a call from a debt collector. This has been reported to my credit which is absolutely disgusting because I've been working so hard the past couple of years to build my score to where it is, and now that's ruined because Empire wpuldn't allow me to pay, nor did they send me any type of documentation saying that they were sending my account to collections. This is a gross injustice and I want them accountable for their actions. I also want this report removed from my credit, and I want to be able to pay EMPIRE themselves and not the collection agency.

I am a recent graduate of empire beauty school. As one of their perks for going to their school was that you would qualify for a scholarship of 1000 dollars if you kept your attendance at or above a 90 percent at the time of graduation. At the time of my graduation my attendance was a 96 percent, which means I would be getting a 1000 check. When it was time to fill out my paperwork of completion I sat with the executive director of the school to make sure my paperwork was completed correctly. Little did I know that would bring turmoil and stress to me. While I filling out the paperwork of completion I provided the director with my ID because she asked for it. As I continue filling out everything she looked and sent my ID didn’t match my paperwork. I explain to her the information I was writing down was my current address and the one on my ID wasn’t being that I just moved not to long ago. She told me that I would need to put the address that’s on ID on the paperwork for licensing so that when I go take my states exam it would match. That’s when I asked her wouldn’t that mess up my paperwork for my graduation. She clearly said no it’s just for licensing purposes that’s when I just went ahead and proceeded on with the information she was providing me little did I know that would be become a major issue with everything. As I waited to receive my check I started talking to other recent graduates from the school and they were telling me that they were receiving their checks in the mail. It didn’t make sense to me because the director told me that the check would be going to the school and I would have to come pick it up from the school. So I called back the director just to confirm that the check would be coming to the school and she informed yes and once she receives it she will give me a call. That led me to call the corporate office because I was confused and I knew they would give correct information. Once I called I spoke to a Representative that informed me that yes we do receive our checks by mail that’s when I stress to her that I was told no by a director of the school but that didn’t bother me. What bother was that when I told the rep I didn’t receive my check yet that’s when I told that the address they had on file for me was the address I told the director of the school that I longer live at. The Rep explained to me that me address was recently changed at the time of my graduation from my current to an address I longer lived at. I explained who would do that? she then told me that’s the paperwork that was sent to them at the time was to update my address on file and anything else that might have changed from the start of the program to my graduation time. I was outraged. I explained to the rep that I was told that had nothing to do with my personal information and that it was just for licensing purposes. The rep said that it would be two different paperwork. I was then informed that not only was my check had been sent out a undeliverable address that not only one check was sent out but three different checks was sent out to this wrong address. I was lost for words and asked the rep what to do because this was unacceptable that was misinformed in this way and wasn’t to blame I’m not a employee of empire so I trusted this person to provide me with correct information. The rep explained to wait for the checks to come back and they’ll redeliver it to the correct address, or if it doesn’t come back I would have to wait 60 days for new checks. I told her that’s unacceptable and I’m not waiting that long for anything that I earned and worked hard towards getting. I’m a single parent making it to school everyday wasn’t easy I attended empire full time Monday thru Friday. I then asked what can done to reason this out because I’ve been so misinformed by someone you guys hire and trained and if this is how things is ran I would never refer anyone to this school. I was then told there’s nothing they can do and that I would have to wait. Which is very unprofessional I called more then once and no ones from their corporate office hasn’t even tried to help me out to any of their abilities. I just keep getting run around sent voicemail and no return callbacks. Very sadden and disappointed with this company as a whole.

I'm a graduate of Empire Education Group of Jackson,Tenn. 11/11/2014. These people stole all me and my spouses financial aid and loan monies. Never reported my graduation and licensure. And are presently cyber and physically stalking me. Stole our identities. Enrolled me into their Astoria NY campus while I attempted to enroll in Jackson TN. Have bribed someone with the Tenn. Dept. of Commerce and Insurance,EEOC here in Memphis. Seized FTC identity theft accounts. Assaulted my wife from behind on August 20,2017 in Knoxville TN after she was forced to complain of sexual harassment and bullying. Presently stealing all mail. Have created fraudulent bank accounts. Have all but physically taken our lives!!!

I am writing this complaint in regards to Empire Beauty College. I have been trying to request a copy of my Record of Completion for over 4 months now. I have gotten nothing but a run around in trying to obtain something that is mine. I attended Artistic Beauty College (which has since turned into Empire Beauty- same company) in 2003-2004 and took the Cosmetology course, as that was the only option I had, I completed the required 1450 hours and graduated. I since let my license lapse, but re took my exam and was able to get only my Hairstylist license back, which was odd. Now the requirements for Cosmetology is 1500 hours, so technically I will need to go back and take 50 hours of classes. I requested a copy of my transcript, but it has a lot of N/A's listed so they aren't able to see what is actually missing, so I was told to locate my Record of Completion. I have contacted the Aurora, CO location several times, I spoke with the director, whom said she would be able to get this info for me, but I have emailed several times and can't get a response. I have then contacted their Corporate office, and again, they aren't able to help me in locating my requested document.
I have been more than patient. This has been super frustrating. Very poor customer service, unacceptable and super disappointing.

I had a color service at empire beauty school's center city philadelphia location couple days ago. The color was not what I asked, AT ALL. I asked for ash blonde and they gave me a fireball orange, which made me looks 1000 times worse even before I got it done. This school claims they only charge for reasonable materials, which is a lie, false advertising. They charged me $90 for a single process color, more expensive than some professional salons. I told them they screwed up my hair, and they wouldn't redo it. They ask me to come back and pay more money, well I don't think so. I want a refund because not only you did not give me what I paid for, but I need to pay more to fix the mess you made.

received service from Empire's Center City Philadelphia location on Tuesday, June 12th. Ms. Lin expressed she was dissatisfied with her service. As a result of ***'s dissatisfaction, a full refund was processed on her behalf on Monday, June 18th. Due to processing time the refund to ***'s credit card may take up to three (3) business days.

Thank you.

This school advertises itself as a place that prides itself on helping it's students achieve success in the cosmetology field. Going in I spoke with the director, who has since been fired, and filled out an application and financial aid. Once accepted, he had me sign a bunch of paper work that was not properly explained. I was under the impression that I would learn the skills to get my cosmetology license; but the school always had an issue with staffing. When I was supposed to be in the classroom, I was often stuck on the salon floor for self study because my teacher needed to cover the senior students' class while their teacher was at lunch. There was never any real structure to the class, my teacher was literally a student teacher the week before my 2nd module and was always blind sided with the lesson plan. The school was often so low on supplies, students would needed to buy the products the school was required to supply or use a cheap substitute. Students were at times left without any supervision and this school has the worst rating on yelp alone. I withdrew from this school and months later received a bill from them saying I owe over $2000, for time I didn't even spend there and education I did not receive even while attending due to the school's negligence; not to mention I had financial aid. I contacted Empire and told them I should not have to pay them anything; they said file a grievance. I filed a grievance and someone contacted me from corporate; the woman acknowledged there was an issue with education when she told me, "everything has been restructured at this locate and they invite me back." This school dashed any dreams I had of being a cosmetologist and I refused to continue to attend any Empire. The womanglossedover the fact that they fired the director and had to bring several different people in to fill the role. She also, failed to acknowledge the unnecessary out of pocket expenses I had to make because of the school's lack of materials. She basically said I had to pay, even though they failed me as a teaching institution.
I received a letter from Empire stating if I do not pay them or call them, they would send my information to a collections agency. At the time I had no income, so I called and informed them; I was told they will be sending my balance to a collection agency. They made it seem as though there was some alternative with the grievance and then informing them of my income, but it was a falsehood. I have been getting calls from a collections agency and I was lead to be there would be no issue with the school prior to my exit. What was supposed to be a career move, has turned into a nightmare. They are scammers.

My wife has been going to this school, unfortunately for a few months now. If anyone is looking to pursue a career in cosmetology I would highly recommend choosing a different avenue for education other than this school. My wife received her incomplete supplies kit for class which came with a Samsung tablet which all students are force to pay $900.00 for whether they need it or not. My wife asked if she could exclude the tablet from her kit since, if needed, she could purchase a brand new one for significantly less amount of money on her own. She asked the owners why she exactly needed it for class, they explained some students like to use the tablet to study with instead of the books. She kindly informed them she does not prefer that method of studying, but to no avail they dodge her inquiries and made her keep the tablet. Now since no one is able to use the tablet in class she is stuck with a $900.00 paperweight.
When going to school students aspire to better themselves, some for a better job and others to further their education and expertise. Unfortunately not many of the instructors at this campus have the capabilities to professionally lead students through the curriculum.
On top of these grievances the Empire beauty school does not provided a sanitary or safe learning/working environment. On two separate occasions, my wife along with her classmates have informed management about finding human fecal matter on the picnic table in their break area. Students cars have been vandalized with the only solution provided being not to leave valuables in their car.
Management has expressed their vision and upgrades for the school to all which consists of bandaids not improvements. None of the improvements will be fixated on rectifying students concern such as fixing security cameras, remolding the subpar restrooms or stocking the supply rooms with necessary products pertaining to students required curriculum. Instead a new, interior paint job is the highlight of the remolding project. It is unfortunate this business has been able to keep its doors open by lureing victims, instead of students, into its mediocre school. They probably do this because they have minimal facility trained to receive tutition payments from students, but in turn harass students with letters informing them they have not received payments.
