In February we were asked to perform a complete restoration on a *** *** *** *** *** revolver thatthe customer stated he had carried and used during his career as a law-enforcement officerThe customer was told at the time that such a restoration would not be fast, easy, or
inexpensive as the firearm was badly pitted due to extensive rust on the frame and front half of the cylinder, and less than half of the original finish remained. This type of restoration typically takes a minimum of months from other businesses. The customer approved the work after he was given a verbal estimate of what the project would entail, including the parts that would have to be replacedDue to the firearm's age these parts are not readily available as this particular version of this firearm is no longer in production. The customer contacted us several times to ask about the status of the restoration and was given updates each timeRepairing pitted metal is a process that takes months or more as each pit must be individually filled then hand-filed smooth before the next pit can be repairedDoing more than one pit at once leaves a lumpy surface which is not acceptable for a high-end restoration.Once the pits were all repaired and the new parts had arrived, the revolver was rust bluedUnlike a one day hot tank bluing where the finish starts wearing almost immediately, rust bluing is a long process; doing it correctly takes four or five months and can create a finish that will last a century or more if the firearm is properly maintained. The customer received his firearm back from us on May 13th, less than a week after he filed his Revdex.com complaint and three weeks before it was mailed to usWhen the time came to pick up his revolver he demanded that the work be free due to the time required for the restoration; in response we told him to bring cash if he wanted his gun back.Upon receiving his firearm he said that he was extremely pleased with the quality of the work that was performed and he would be bringing other firearms for us to restoreHe was promptly told that he was no longer welcome on the property

Review: In February 2013 (15 months ago) I delivered a [redacted] 38 cal. [redacted] Special to this business for estimate for re-bluing. I have contacted [redacted] the owner numerous times since then and received all kinds of excuses. He has referred me to man that supposedly sub-contract this work and after approx. a dozen calls and listing to every excuse from it's almost done to needing new parts to sending it to another shop to remove heavy pitting and the man is sick and will get to it when he can. All I requested was an estimate from the business and appears that I'm getting the business. The business can be found at [redacted] Thank you,[redacted]. [redacted]Desired Settlement: Just return my revolver completely assembled and in working order in two weeks or sooner

Response:

In February 2013 we were asked to perform a complete restoration on a [redacted] revolver thatthe customer stated he had carried and used during his career as a law-enforcement officer. The customer was told at the time that such a restoration would not be fast, easy, or inexpensive as the firearm was badly pitted due to extensive rust on the frame and front half of the cylinder, and less than half of the original finish remained. This type of restoration typically takes a minimum of 24 months from other businesses. The customer approved the work after he was given a verbal estimate of what the project would entail, including the parts that would have to be replaced. Due to the firearm's age these parts are not readily available as this particular version of this firearm is no longer in production. The customer contacted us several times to ask about the status of the restoration and was given updates each time. Repairing pitted metal is a process that takes months or more as each pit must be individually filled then hand-filed smooth before the next pit can be repaired. Doing more than one pit at once leaves a lumpy surface which is not acceptable for a high-end restoration.Once the pits were all repaired and the new parts had arrived, the revolver was rust blued. Unlike a one day hot tank bluing where the finish starts wearing almost immediately, rust bluing is a long process; doing it correctly takes four or five months and can create a finish that will last a century or more if the firearm is properly maintained. The customer received his firearm back from us on May 13th, less than a week after he filed his Revdex.com complaint and three weeks before it was mailed to us. When the time came to pick up his revolver he demanded that the work be free due to the time required for the restoration; in response we told him to bring cash if he wanted his gun back.Upon receiving his firearm he said that he was extremely pleased with the quality of the work that was performed and he would be bringing other firearms for us to restore. He was promptly told that he was no longer welcome on the property.
