Review: I had a scheduled visit to Dr Edwina Burke's office some time ago. Their information was found through a provider directory supplied to me by [redacted]. I went in for my visit, provided my insurance card, and after the completion of my new patient paper work I was admitted to the back of the office. Upon my admission, I verified with the person working the front desk that my insurance was indeed accepted. Another day entirely my wife also had a consultation for a medical issue with her jaw bone for which there was should have been no charge. A couple weeks later, we each received a call stating we owed an outstanding balance of a significant dollar amount. After asking a few questions, I discovered they did not accept my insurance. In addition to that, they also threatened to have my insurance benefits cancelled and my account sent to collections. After reaching out to my insurance provider, I not only learned that they cannot in any way affect my benefits whatsoever, but that they are completely aware that they do not have that power. With [redacted] there is no co-pay at all for any of the treatment I receive at several health care providers. I certainly would not have agreed to be a patient at their facility knowing I would have to pay out of pocket, especially when I could have gone else where to have my work done at no cost to me. I feel it is not in good business practice for them to take advantage of people as they have.Desired Settlement: For the resolution of this matter, I would request that Edwina Burke's office be reprimanded for their mistake and that they take responsibility for the charges on my account. Also, I would request that some form of action be taken to ensure this does not happen again, and a formal apology be made.
