Review: I attended a birthday dinner for a friend of mine at El Mesquite last night. The atmosphere was great, there was a wonderful band playing and everyone was having fun. However, I have a food allergy to onions, and expressed this to both servers attending to our group. It is typically easier in Mexican restaurants to find out what does not have onions, so I asked the server to do that. When the servers came back, I was told they could do any recipe without onions. I even had my friend who is fluent in Spanish to translate my concern just to make sure, and they told him the same thing. I was very happy to hear this, and order Poblano chiles. When I received my food, I asked again if there was any onions, hoping they did not forget. They assured me there was onions in nothing, so I began to eat my food. Within a few minutes, that familiar "you ate onions" feeling started, and my palms began to itch and my throat got scratchy. This was just the beginning of a reaction that eventually made me dizzy and made my throat begin to close and made it hard to breathe once I got home. I expressed my concern to the hostess because I thought it may have been hard for the servers to hear me, as we were next to the band. She asked what else I could eat, and I explained to her I had a different dish in the past successfully. After that, the manager came over and said all of their food is prepared with onions except the burger and chicken tenders and asked if I wanted that. I said no because I wasn't feeling well by this point. I explained I wanted the dish I could not eat taken off my bill (because I know they cannot serve it, and had told them in advance it had onions, I offered it to my daughter), but they refused to take it off my bill and made me pay for it even though it made me very sick. The manager came back and said not all of their food was made with onions, but he had thought it was. I feel like this is misinformation to make me pay for the food, and this is what I am complaining about.Desired Settlement: I want a refund for the dish I could not eat that made me ill. But more than that, I want measures taken to ensure this does not happen to any other customer with severe food allergies. The way this was handled was completely wrong, and I want that addressed. I worked in this industry in the past, and if this problem arose, I always adjusted the bill for the customer and offered medical attention if necessary. I took the customer's information and followed up to make sure they were ok.
