Review: I hired [redacted] of EMC Electrical and Mechanical, Altoona, PA in June of 2012 to install a "Hile" 110 BTU "heat Pump" system to heat and cool my one level 4 bed, 2 bath home and paid him $14,000 in full. He assured us he could do the job. He removed the hot water/baseboard heating system, said he knew someone who wanted to purchase and he would give us the money. He took the old unit. never paid us a dime. Since the start of installing our heat pump, [redacted] demonstrated the worst professionalism and incompetency. When placing the unit on the roof, his worker accidentally cut a hole in my kitchen ceiling and the unit itself exposed. It poured rain into my kitchen that night. He never offered to repair or compensate us. He did not complete installing the system in a timely manner. His service consisted of "stopping in", doing a small thing, leaving for the day- which has gone on for 2 years now. Since day one, the system has never worked. Last summer the unit above our kitchen froze, water poured down, waterlogged the ceiling/new custom cabinetry above my fridge. He saw this and has done nothing to fix/compensate us. Ice built up on outside unit several times. This system is under warranty for two years. We have requested a copy of the warranty and an owners/operators manual several times, have not received it. Historically, when we have an issue we call [redacted] immediately. He either does not respond or responds by text within a month. We are forced to call other contractors to spare us from cooking or freezing inside of our home. We opted to install a "heat pump" because its more economical. In spite of new insulation/highest R-value windows throughout, our gas bill is triple what it should be and our electrical is high. We have paid over $3,000 for other contractor calls/high utilities so far. [redacted] is aware of his and has only paid us $200. The PA Atty. General made him aware I filed a complaint. He showed twice since then briefly -more stories but system not fixed. We are freezing!Desired Settlement: Because [redacted] has established himself as irresponsible, unaccountable and unable to install/repair this systems for the past 2 years, I cannot comprehend [redacted] being the person to make this system work at this point. I want to be completely refunded for the $14,000, I paid [redacted], plus the other contractor service bills & high utilities I paid because this system is not working. Or, I want [redacted] to pay what it costs me to hire a different contractor to come in and make the system work ASAP!
