Elias Appliance Reviews (1)

Review: I purchased a reconditioned Whirlpool refrigerator/top freezer unit from Elias Appliance on 8/27/13 for $200 cash. The owner's son stated (and his sales receipt confirms this) that there was a 90 day warranty on the refrigerator working, and agreed to reverse the handles on the doors to the other side. It was delivered to my rental property in San Diego on 8/28/13. The company failed to reverse the handles as promised. About a month later, once we had tenants in the property, the tenants remarked that the freezer wasn't keeping things very cold, then the refrigerator wasn't keeping things cold (they said this started around Sept. 30th or so). As of October 6 or 7th, the tenants said the whole unit was not cold at all. My husband checked it on 10/08 and confirmed it was dead, no cold air at all, and their food was spoiling. He called Elias Appliance and spoke with their person who very rudely said we would have to cart up the refrigerator and bring it back to them, and dependent on what the problems was would determine if the 90 day warranty would be honored. He had to hire someone to help him load the refrigerator (an extra $50 cost) and take it back to the shop this morning. He got there at 9:45 and the shop's posted opening hour was 10 am, but by 10:30 still nobody had come in. Nobody there answered our repeated phone calls for help. Another local repair appliance store we called said it was ludicrous that the company would not come out to check their unit. I called the State of CA Bureau of Electronic Appliances & Repair (after filing a complaint with them) and was told that Elias Appliance has no license to repair on file, is not supposed to be making any repairs after the point of sale (although their store is full of refurbished appliances they have repaired). Another company we called said that if the refrigerator is totally dead even though the electrical current system is working (which it is) then the motor in the unit is likely dead. Mr. [redacted] finally called back about noon to say bring the unit over and he will check it out & see if warranty covers it. But we do not trust this company and this has been a major ordeal for us, for my husband who had to miss work, I am missing work, our tenants have no refrigerator and a baby in the house, we may be out the $200 purchase price plus cost of hiring helper plus having to discount some rent for our tenants spoiled food.Desired Settlement: We want $200 purchase price back and will go to a reputable refurbished appliance store like [redacted] where we can count on if anything goes wrong they will make good on it and come to us, not make us take the unit back to them each time there is a problem in order to maybe be covered by warranty. We also want $100 for cost of hiring helper and tenant's food and all the aggravation and hassle. Also want the company investigated for repairs without license.

RE: Whirlpool Refrigerator ($200)

ID# [redacted]

To Whom It May Concern:

In response to your letter dated October 10,2013; on 08/27/2013 an 18 cubic feet

whirlpool used refrigerator was sold for the amount of $200. It was delivered. (delivery

fee is $50 but was waved as a courtesy for the customer on this purchased)

There was a 90 day warranty that was given on this purchase; which I had no problem

honoring as I explained to [redacted] on the phone, when we spoke on Tuesday October 8,

2013; that was the first and only time I was told that the refrigerator was not working.

I said to him in order for me to inspect the refrigerator, and find out what the issue was, it

would need to be brought to the place of purchase.

In addition I explained to [redacted] that there was no home service purchased on the unit so

he would have to find a way to bring it back to the shop.

When the unit was brought to the shop by [redacted] on 10/1 0/2013; the 90 day warranty

was honored; and [redacted] was given an upgraded whirlpool refrigerator, with ice maker

and water, which was $350 dollars, but was exchanged at no additional cost.

Thank you Revdex.com for bringing this matter to my attention, as far as I was concerned the 90

day warranty was honored, I address the problem the day I was told about it, and the

problem was solved the day the unit was brought back to the shop, to the best of my

knowledge the customer was happy and satisfied when he left that day, as he got a $150

upgrade at no additional cost.

Sincerely,

Mr. [redacted]
