stated on the previous invoices. The total cost for check engine light related repairs is $531.72 When the customer couldn't pass the smog check he brought it for repairs. We found multiple misfire codes on all cylinders and a lean code. This lean condition will cause misfires in the engine as the engines fuel and air mixture is not correct. This is a case where the lean code is causing misfires. We performed test to find out what was causing the lean condition. We found a torn diaphragm on a vent valve causing uncontrollable too much air going in the engine. We replace this Valve and a few brittle hoses. This repair cost $531.72. The customer took the car for smog after the monitors set and the car passed the smog test. Later that week the check engine light came back on. After the repair the vehicle idle much better, however on acceleration there are misfires present still. After some investigation of several hours at no cost to Mr. B[redacted], we determined that excess carbon has built up on intake valves of the engine has been restricting the air flow to the engine. We would not think to look at this problem as the computer is telling us that there is too much air on the mixture or is lean. There was no way to foresee this at the beginning; the car was not running well enough to even test drive properly. It would be like going in to the Doctor with a headache, the DR. will check weight, temperature, heartrate, and blood pressure. If he finds very high blood pressure he would treat that first, because it is the obvious and needs to be controlled. If the headache continues the further tests are needed, they might find high cholesterol or high or low sugar …. That is what we did; the air fuel mixture was so far out that it was impossible to continue and not to correlate the misfires with it. After the fuel air mixture was corrected the misfires would occur on hard acceleration. Further test revealed the carbon restriction. For Mr. B[redacted]’s patronage and how we value all customers, we supplied a $300.00 credit to the removal of carbon and no parts cost of material. Mr. B[redacted] stated he wanted to sell the car and was not going to repair at this time.
