It was recommended that I use ortho inserts. I paid $350.00. My insurance did not pay. The ortho inserts are like walking on cement inside my shoes. Elizur will not refund my money. I cannot wear the shoe inserts $350.00 out the window! Would never recommend, ever!

Observation of an Expert in Medical Braces
Most recent I had the experience of observation of a true Compassionate person trying and complete the fitting of a brace on my elderly sister who had broken her Knee Cap, movement and comfort were most important, and Brian Ball, of Marshall Sports Medicine in Huntington made it happen. His knowledge of braces is amazing.

Patient Jan A Penn, Huntington West Virginia
Brian Ball, a brace specialist for Marshall Sports Medicine, was outstanding and most useful in proper fitting at a time when I needed assistance as elderly patient and first time experience. Brian is an asset for Elizur..as a representative for their Product

I had an appointment at UPMC Rehab, Moon Twp with a prescription from my DR for compression stockings in June 2018. I was advised I would get a call by the end of the week from Elizur. Never received that call. Called back end of July to UPMC Rehab regarding this matter. I ended up calling my Dr and they said Elizur was looking for a script to order the stockings, meanwhile I already submitted my script in June and was measured. I had to go back to UPMC Rehab for a second measurement in July and the order was placed and advised I would here something back by the end of the week. I never heard from anyone. I called back in August and was advised they will be sent shortly. I finally received my stockings to set up an another appt with the PT to see if they fit correctly. Stocking were not correct. I was advised I would get a Return Authorization number to return the garment. I called Elizur and was sent the return authorization label and sent the garments back. I have now been notified by Elizur that the garment can not be replaced by that manufacturer, that the PT has to indicate on the garment the modifications then send them back. So, now I wait for the returned garment to be returned back for another appointment with the PT at UPMC Rehab. I am truly amazed that I have been trying to get a compression garment since June 2018. I am beyond angry.

Amazingly slow service. I was prescribed an Elizur walking boot in November and told that I'd receive a call within a week from Elizur to confirm that I was willing to pay the out-of-pocket and wanted to keep the boot. No call. I wore the boot for my prescribed 6 weeks and then stopped wearing it. In January, two months later, I received a call from Elizur: "So how's that boot working out for you?"

Meanwhile, my doctor prescribed custom orthotics from Elizur. Again, I was told I'd receive a call in a week. Three weeks later I got the call, and was told the orthotics hadn't been made yet and it would be another three-four weeks before they would be need. I need those inserts now - I needed them three weeks ago. This is maddeningly, and unacceptably slow for something that is medically necessary.

If your doctor prescribes something from Elizur, ask about another source or go to another doctor, if it's something you need right away.

Review: Absolutely a horrible company to deal with, took over a month to get the brace and then received the wrong one and will not correct it. 6 months after we received the brace we received a bill that was supposed to covered in full and they still don't have my daughters dob correct.Desired Settlement: we want the correct brace color exchanged.

Review: I was given a Drytex knee brace by my orthopedist due to some ligament issues. I accepted it in good faith on 8/31/15, and on 9/24/15 I received a bill for $579.96. This identical brace is available from the manufacturer for $119.99. This is comparable to other prices for braces available on the internet. When I contacted the company to ask why the price was so exorbitant, I received no answer. When I asked to return the brace, I was told that I could not after 7 days. This seems quite disingenuous since I did not receive a bill until several weeks later, and was unaware of how much the brace would cost. I accepted it in good faith from my orthopedist, expecting it to be priced reasonably. I have yet to hear any answer about why it has been marked up so exorbitantly.Desired Settlement: I would be happy to pay the manufacturer's retail price for the brace.

Review: I was invoiced for a medical device that was covered under our insurance. Advanced claimed that they filed correctly to our insurance. Our insurance company claims that Advanced did not include the prescription for the equipment. According to our insurance, Advanced is under contract with them and I should never have been billed. Advanced billed me and threatened collection. I paid the invoice with a credit card and started a grievance process. Unfortunately, it has been over 3 months and I have not received a refund from Advanced Integrated Medical. I have called Advanced Integrated numerous times to resolve and have been told different excuses each time. They are blaming my insurance company and not offering a refund. In addition, the two grievances that I filed with my insurance have not been answered by Advanced Integrated.Desired Settlement: I have a receipt for $295.49 paid on August 5, 2014. I expect a full refund. Since they should never have billed me per their contract with DMEnsion Benefit Management. I believe that I should be reimbursed interest on the credit card.

Review: On August 23, 2013, I was diagnosed at Orthopedic Associates of Meadville as needing a tennis elbow strap. I purchased the $20 tennis elbow strap from the office's Elizur representative. I paid cash, my receipt indicates the strap as a DME cash & carry item. Later, I received an email of my signed receipt from Elizur for the purchase of the tennis elbow strap. On September 20, 2013, Elizur mailed an invoice (Invoice No. [redacted]) to me requesting payment of $17.30 for a tennis elbow strap. On October 8, 2013, Elizur mailed a summary statement (Invoice No. [redacted]) to me requesting payment of $17.30 for a tennis elbow strap. Subsequently, on October 11, 2013, I phoned ELizur, spoke with Ms. [redacted] and faxed her my receipts at ###-###-####. She indicated that the information would be referred to manager Christine for resolution. On November 20, 2013, Elizur mailed another summary statement (Invoice No. [redacted])to me requesting payment of $17.30 for a tennis elbow strap. On November 27, 2013, I phoned Elizur and requested to speak with [redacted]. I was told that Ms. [redacted] no longer worked for Elizur. I then explained the matter to [redacted], an ELizur representative, who told me that the system indicated it was paid and she would show her supervisor and have the charge removed. I requested that ELizur send me a statement with "$0.00" balance. She confirmed a $0.00 balance statement would be sent to me in about 1 week.On January 25, 2014, I received a PAST DUE statement from Elizur requesting payment. Unfortunately, this matter should have been taken care of months ago. This is unacceptable. To my dismay and continued frustration, this matter still has not been resolved. Please assist me in resolving this matter.Desired Settlement: A letter and summary statement from Elizur indicating that Invoice No. [redacted] is paid and shows $0.00 balance.

Review: I was fitted for a knee brace during a routine office visit. The cost of the brace (billed at $703, avail. on Amazon for $133) was not disclosed nor was the return policy. No follow up mail or email communication regarding the company, policy, etc was ever received nor was there any verbal communication during the visit.I was quite surprised to find the unworn knee brace could not be returned.Desired Settlement: A refund for the brace would be appreciated.Additionally, policies regarding return of unused equipment and an approximate cost should be instituted. These should be explained by the Elizur rep. during these visits with written (signed) patient confirmation.

Review: On 11/25/14, a representative from Elizur or Advanced Integrated Medical took a Breg T-Scope Knee Brace out of a plastic bag, placed it on my daughters knee (in our orthopaedic doctors office), & cut the velcro straps that were too long.

Approximately a month later we received a bill in the mail from them for $530. After several phone calls, I learned that our health insurance company will not pay for products from this medical supply company. I looked up this exact same brand name brace online and found that it can be purchased for about $166. I called Advanced Medical to see what could be done about this overly high bill. First they told me to appeal to my insurance carrier which I did. Our appeal was denied. Then I asked Advanced Medical what their return policy is. (I planned on purchasing one online & sending it to them to replace the one their rep had cut). They told me that they have a "One week return policy, no exceptions!" We were not even aware of their price until about a Month after we got their brace, so how could we ever have a chance to return it in less than a week? I made many phone calls to my insurance company and even the Physician assistant at the orthopaedic doctors office even tried to talk to Advanced Medical about lowering their price for us, to no avail. The Only slightly positive thing that this company did was to agree to a monthly payment plan over 10 months which I only agreed to because otherwise they would turn us into a collection agency. I do not know if there is anything illegal about their pricing and policies, but I feel that they are certainly unethical in their refusal to accept refunds (after 1 wk) and their price structure of charging over triple the amount that their product is actually worth. On top of that, they are totally unwilling to lower their price for people whose insurance does not cover it unless you are below the poverty level!Desired Settlement: The optimal desired outcome would be for them to accept the fair price for the brace of $166 as payment in full as we have already made 2 payments of $53 each totally $106. I also would like to see their refund policy be changed to allow refunds up to 2 months later or at least until After people have received their bills! Other than that, I doubt that this company would be willing to stop overcharging consumers AND insurance companies for their products. I believe that it is partly due to companies like this that health care costs are continually being driven up to an unethical level. Thank you very much for your time and consideration of our complaint.

Review: I am responsible for a 500.00 deductible to be paid for a back brace I received last year. I was laid off in February of this year therefore cannot pay the full amount. I have tried to make arrangements to pay 10.00 minimum a month and more if I am able to. I receive more than one letter a month and several phone calls a day from this company. I spoke with [redacted] on several occasions in regards to my hardships. She advised me I must pay the minimum amount of 25.00 a month. When I said that would be hard but I will have it in there I received a call the next month stating now the minimum needs to be 30.00 a month. Also, I have received several voicemails with personal information stated in them as well as amounts that are due and urgency stressed that they need paid immediately. I share a phone and my voicemail does NOT state my name. I have asked what the minimum amount to avoid it going to collections would be and she states she does not know.Desired Settlement: No phone calls I will pay what I am able to pay and make payments each month as I have promised. I would like a new representative on my case and not to be harassed for something I am paying.

Review: Hello. Approx.3-4 months ago I had an appointment with my UPMC doctor at there Bethel Park location in Pittsburgh ,PA.It was for fluid injections (1 each week for 3 weeks,a lubercant to releave friction in my right knee joint because the cartilage is gone). In the exam room a young lady came in the room with a uniform that was the same colors as the UPMC employees,so I thought she was a Upmc employee. She then started telling me how great my knee pain may improve if I get a knee brace from her..I asked her first what will it cost me and If my medical insurance will cover it,she replied yes it will cover it all. I asked again If it would cover all the deductibles and co payments and the fitting. She replied yes 100%..I said ok please fit me for it. About 6 weeks later the injection meds came in(they had to be ordered)I was due to come in to the doctors office for my first injection so the evening before I called the young lady(she gave me her phone number at the fitting)and told her Ill be there tomorrow for my doctors appointment. She told me that were always here so I thought she was an employee of UPMC. While I was being fitted for the brace I then asked this girl( was a different girl with the same kind of uniform on).2 more times in a conversation if the brace ,fitting and everything was covered by my health insurance ,she replied yes it will be all covered .I had my 2 other appointments and on the last injection my knee was too sore and swollen to have her put the brace on my knee and fit it ,so she instructed me how to install it and adjust it.I left and like always my knee started feeling better from the injections.A few days ago I received a bill from ELIZUR in the mail for $830.68 and I could not figure out what it was for.I never bought anything from a company named ELIZUR. I called the telephone number on the bill and spoke to a lady in the billing department. When she told me it was the knee brace I was so shocked.I explained all this to her.3-4 times there rep. told me it would be covered.Desired Settlement: I would like ELIZUR to let me give the knee brace back to them. They told me they do not take back there products. Being on a very small income I could never pay for this, even on monthly payments.

Review: I was a patient at Greater Pittsburgh Orthopedic Associates (GPOA), who contracts with Advanced Integrated Medical to provide their durable medical equipment. I was given a form to sign before being given my leg brace stating that Advanced Integrated Medical (AIM) would bill my insurance. I signed it, and AIM billed my insurance for $750, $500 of which I am responsible for out-of-pocket. The identical, brand new leg brace is available from a number of other local medical supply companies, the most expensive of which charges $190. I feel that this information was actively withheld from me when I signed the billing form in order to be able to overcharge me, but since I did sign, I understand I am now on the hook for these charges, even if they are unethical. However, my specific complaint relates to AIM's response to my questions. I spoke with a representative of AIM who works in the GPOA office, and asked her why this happened. She said that if a person has medical insurance, it is "illegal" for a company to sell durable medical equipment to them directly, without going through the insurance company first. This seemed suspicious to me, so I called my insurance company, who confirmed that it is perfectly legal to do just that, and that the representative I had spoken to was misrepresenting information.Desired Settlement: I would like an explanation of why AIM is misrepresenting legal information in an attempt to confuse their customers into accepting unethical billing practices.

Review: I purchased an L1843 knee Orthosis brace 12/05/2012, Dr. [redacted], had prescribed. I noticed the hinge cover appeared loose when screwed, subsequently it came off and was lost.I spoke to "[redacted]", @ Elizur and asked for a new hinge cover. [redacted] informed me that my warrenty had expired. THERE WAS NO WARRANTY ON THE BOX THAT THE BRACE CAME IN, NO WARRANTY ON MY BILL FROM ELIZUR. I sent an email to Ms. [redacted] of Customer service and Ms. [redacted] (Clinical specialist), who fitted my brace. To date I have not received any reply for the company.Desired Settlement: I would appreciate a replacement hinge cover.

Response:

Thank you for bringing Case ID [redacted] to our attention. We have researched the issue and found that the brace was out of warranty at the time of the patient's first phone call and in fact the manufacturer does not cover a lost hinge cover as a warranty item at any point in time of ownership. We further investigated all options of obtaining such part and at the time found no source and/or options.

Review: I recently hurt my knee and was treated by GPOA - Greater Pittsburgh Orthopedic Associates in Moon TWP. The doctor provided me a knee brace - Breg Shortrunner - model 21734. The material is mesh and has 2 small plastic movement restrictors on the side. Nothing special or technically advanced. I figured it would cost $60 to $75. I just received my bill from Advanced Integrated Medical for $530.07. That's 5 hundred and thirty dollars. They billed my insurance $725. I asked them to reconsider this outrageous bill, but they won't even discuss it. I can't even use the brace due to recent surgery. This company has an F rating with the Revdex.com. What can I do? I don't have $500 for a $75 brace. That doesn't make financial sense to me.Desired Settlement: Have Advanced Integrated Medical accept the insurance payment as a full payment, no additional charges. Even the insurance payment of $195 is ridiculous. You don't have to look far to see why our insurance system is in trouble, to charge that amount for this brace is totally out of line.
