As indicated previously, we were not explained how the $2,price was calculated by the company on the day of the moveWe paid when demanded the payment because we are good and responsible people, but that doesn’t mean that we couldn’t review the charges after we paid and realized that we’ve been overcharged! Just because we didn’t realize we were overcharge and raise the question on the day of the move does not mean that we were not overcharged by the company. The company has the responsibility to tell us how the $2,was calculated when it was different from the original quoted price, but they failed to do so on the day of the move. We had to do our own calculation later to find out that this price was still based on the same hourly rate for men at hours, but we only had men for hours at the most. Our old and new houses are only minutes away from each other on local roads, so minutes at the most for double drive time. Again, the movers arrived at 9:20am in the morning, took an hour lunch and we paid them at around 3:50pm. We were overcharged by $as indicatedpreviously. We demand a full refund of $

I am rejecting this response because:All supporting
documents have been provided. I am repeating my original complaint here since *** chooses to ignore the facts. 1. no one touched the piano since December when Elk Grove Moving and Storage moved it.The piano played when it left Elk Grove, the next time I was able to attempt to play was April (illness, etc.)when I immediately informed *** who did not send me a claim form until I asked twice. He then waited the most time he could required by law to reply to my claimdays.*** told me on April to hire a piano expert to assess the damage, if the piano expert could confirm the piano was dropped resulting in all keys being offset of the pins (making the piano completely unplayable) he would honor the claim The piano expert documented in writing the piano was dropped resulting in this damage provided in the documents (his invoice for $85). The piano expert also stated he would provide pics which *** never requestedI did exactly as *** asked resulting in numerous other time and costs to me when he knows it is his responsibility since his employees dropped the piano and it was confirmed by piano expert at ***S REQUEST.Per California State Law Public Utilities Commission clients of moving companies have months to file a claim. The law states months, *** is not allowed to make up his own rules. It is not his business to tell me when to play my piano. Thank you for your time

Not sure what we are discussing at this point regarding this complaint. Our records indicate different start and stop time. Double drive time is also a part of the equation. We charged less per hour because we only had 5 men. This does not effect the final price of the move as it just may take longer."Not to Exceed" price was not compromised. In fact, price was less.Customer's initial request to be refunded money based on her accounting of time is not accurate.IF she was keeping such good track of the time, why did she not question amount when paying the bill ?In the interest of good faith, I am willing to discuss a reasonable resolution that makes us both happy.

I am rejecting this response because:The move did not take the 5 men 10.25 hours when they arrived at 9:20am and ended at 3:49pm.  With an hour lunch and a few breaks in between, it was less than 5.5 hours in total.  Elk Grove Moving and Storage is lying about the total hours of services provided. No one ever explained to us how the $2147.40 was calculated nor the lower rate for 5 men.  We were misinformed and intimidated by the foreman, [redacted], who refused to explain to us how the $2147.40 was calculated.  We were demanded to pay the $2147.40 after the move and we paid.  We had to do our own calculation afterwardsto find out how it was calculated and found out that we were overcharged.  Besides the boxes, there were also a lot of things that the movers did not move either (see attached photos).  We’re seeking a refund of the overcharged payment for 26.5 man hours (including 5% cash discount) of $944.06![(54 man hours x $37.5 x 0.95) – (27.5 man hours x $37.5 x 0.95)] = ($2,025 - $1,031.25) x 0.95 = $993.75 x 0.95 = $944.06.

I am rejecting this response because: One of those drivers took my jewelry because it is not here. As a business they should have insurance. I think I should be compensated for something.

On move day, this office received no call/complaint that our men dropped her piano. There was no request for a claim form.I would think that Ms. Pederson would have been very upset if she saw the movers drop her piano. This office did not hear anything from Tamara for 4 months.I believe the burden of proof rests with her.

Review: They list two cushions to a sofa and sent $3 to replace $100 in cushions to replace them. They also overcharged for their time

They moved my household goods and in process they lost two cushions to a sofa bed. I filed a form they provided to get reimbursed. It would cost about $100 to get cushions replaced that would fit or work for the situation. Today I got a check for $3. This is an absolute insult and doesn't cover the fuel to drive the car to go get cushions.

This on top of being overcharged for time on the move.

This company has no ethicsDesired Settlement: $100 to replace lost cushions. Should be $150 to include overcharge of time but I'm willing to be reasonable

Business' Initial Response

The California Public Utility Commission regulated all licensed moving companies in the State of California They are the governing body and set all rules and regulations Elk Grove Moving and Storage had the same contract as every other licensed mover in this state

Per the terms of the signed contract [redacted] valued his shipment at .60 per lb., per article Other options are available However those options cost money Please see signed contract

Therefore all alleged lost or damaged items (no matter what their value) are valued at .60 per lb, per article Mr. [redacted] submitted a claim form that indicates the weight of the two cushion at a total of 5 lbs His claim was settled for a total of $3.00

I would like to point out that Elk Grove Moving and Storage was not responsible for moving the entire residence and it is not absolutely certain that we were responsible for the missing cushions It is convenient to blame the moving company

Furthermore during the conversation I had with Mr [redacted] regarding his cushions he never mentioned anything about being overcharged He was charged load time double travel time unload time and the fuel surcharge as per our oral agreement/contract

I take exception to his statement that "this company has no ethics" I would suggest that he contact the PUC and work on getting the rules changed or purchase additional valuation on any moves he does in the future

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns

Consumer's Final Response

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)

The moving company was told of the overcharge in terms of what I was told when a verbal estimate was provided. They took less time than what I was charged for. They were told this st time of payment as well as when I called about the missing coushions. It is convenient for the moving company to say they were never told of the overcharge. On the moving day they lost cushions to the couch and when they were called I was told that they may have just been placed somewhere else in the house. It was a small apartment not much to really move.

A reputable business makes their client "whole." I have no respect for this company and would recommend that anyone moving should not use this firm.

$3 is an insult since "matching" cannot be found.

Business' Final Response

Per the signed contract, [redacted] recovered .60 per lb., per article. Additional valuation options were available. There is no such thing as a a "verbal estimate". Oral estimates are non-binding and illegal. [redacted] was quoted an hourly rate of $88.00 per hour with a $30.00 fuel surcharge. He was told there was a 3 hour minimum. He was told when booking the date that an apartment move usually takes between 3 and 4 hours. His move took 3.75 hours. He paid the correct total of $360.00.

[redacted]'s complaints have no merit.

Please feel free to contact me with any further questions or concerns.

Review: This letter is to complain and to seek refund from Elk Grove Moving & Storage for our move on 7/13/2015 from our old house in Elk Grove (95758 zip code) to our new house that is 9 minutes drive away (95757 zip code). In summary, we were charged a total of $2,040.40 (with a 5% off cash discount and including misc. fees) based on a rate of $225 per hour with 6 men and 3 trucks for 9 hours including 15 loaner wardrobe boxes, but we only received 5.5 hours of moving time with 5 men, 2 trucks (utilized) and 5 loaner wardrobe boxes. Based on the quoted rate of $37.50 per man hour ($225/6 men), the correct amount to be charged should be $1,031.25 ($37.5 x 27.5 man hours) instead of $2,025 ($37.5 x 54 man hours). We were overcharged by $944.06 (with 5% off cash discount = ($2,025 - $1,031.25)*0.95). Hence, wed like a refund of $944.06 from Elk Grove Moving & Storage. Our original moving service quote was done by [redacted], Relocation Consultant, from Elk Grove Moving & Storage, who came to our old house (1,852 sq ft, two stories, 3 beds & 2.5 baths) on 6/26/15 to give us an estimate. The original quote included every single item from our old house (including all boxes and every small items) to be moved to the new house by Elk Grove Moving & Storage. [redacted] told us that the move would be based on the actual hours spent, up to the not-to-exceed cost of $2,452.50, which was based on a quote for 10.5 hours with 6 men at $225 per hour plus fuel surcharges ($90), shrink ($30) and sales tax ($2.40) and with a coupon discount of (-$32.40). $225 x 10.5 hours + $90 + $30 + $2.40 - $32.40 = $2,452.50.After the initial quote, we decided to lower our moving costs by moving some of the stuffs on our own. So we notified the company that we would be moving all the boxes and small items on our own and we would also disassemble and assemble all the furniture on our own in order to cut down on the moving time. We spoke with the owner, [redacted], to request the company to come back for a revised quote. However, the company refused to come back again for a revised quote. [redacted] simply told us that they would still clock the hours of the move with the same not-to-exceed price. On 7/13/15, the day of the move, the moving team arrived at around 9:20am, which was later than the scheduled 8:30am to 9am arrival time. Also, the moving team consisted of only 5 men instead of 6 men as quoted in the quote. [redacted] was the moving teams foreman. We told [redacted] that we had already moved most of the boxes and small items on our own and we wanted to find out what the new price would be for moving the remaining items. [redacted] and his team did a walk-through of the house with us as we pointed to them the items that needed to be moved by them. At the time, we had already moved over to the new house 100+ boxes and a lot of small items on our own that could fill a two-car garage. Then, [redacted] provided us a new written quote and told us that the new price was $2,147.40, but he couldnt explain to us how the amount was calculated. [redacted] said that the $2,147.40 was the discounted price for not moving the boxes and small items from the original quote of $2,452.50. [redacted] told us that if we were to ask him and his team to move the remaining boxes, the price would still be the original quote of $2,452.50. This is when we asked how long itd take [redacted] and his team to move the items we identified to be moved by them and [redacted] told us that it would take them 10.5 hours. [redacted] said that if we decide to have him and his team move everything, we would still have to pay at the higher price of $2,452.50.So we asked [redacted] why the price of $2,452.50, as quoted by Chuck, did not drop since most of the boxes and small items had already been moved by us. [redacted] just kept on saying that [redacted] was not there to validate the quoted price, but he could not provide us an explanation. All [redacted] said was that we either pay them $2,452.50 and they would move everything remaining at the old house, or we pay them $2,147.40 and they would move everything except boxes and small items. [redacted] was also adamant in warning us that if we only buy certain hours to lower costs, he and his team of 4 men would just move like all the other movers move and that they would take their time and drop everything when the clock ticks. However, if we went with either the price of $2,452.50 to move everything or the price of $2,147.40 to move everything except boxes and small items, then our guys ([redacted] and his team) can move like no others movers move and wed try our best to not be with you the whole day. We felt threatened immediately that [redacted] and his team would just take their time to move if we only buy certain hours. We couldnt understand why [redacted] was offering us something different from what [redacted] told us with the clocking system as he could not provide us an explanation. We were frightened that with [redacted]s estimated 10.5 hours of moving time, the movers would just take their time and move very slowly to not finish with our move as [redacted] said that they would drop everything when the clock ticks. Also, we felt under the gun as the other movers had already started loading our stuffs during our discussion with [redacted] and [redacted] was very loud, pushy and intimidating. So, we opted for the price of $2,147.40 and we basically moved all the remaining boxes and small items on our own. However, since [redacted] never explained to us how the $2,147.40 was calculated, when we did the calculation on our own after the move, we found out that the $2,147.40 was basically the quoted rate for 9 hours with 6 men at $225 per hour plus fuel surcharges ($90), shrink ($30) and sales tax ($2.40). (9 hours x $225) + $90 + $30 + $2.40 = $2,147.40. So we actually paid for a full 9 hours of moving service with 6 men but we only received 5.5 hours of actual moving time and with only 5 men. This meansDesired Settlement: Were seeking a refund of the overcharged payment for 26.5 man hours (including 5% cash discount) of $944.06![(54 man hours x $37.5 x 0.95) (27.5 man hours x $37.5 x 0.95)] = ($2,025 - $1,031.25) x 0.95 = $993.75 x 0.95 = $944.06.

Review: Elk Grove Moving & Storage moved me from Elk Grove to Sacramento. [redacted] the owner had moved me twice before, with 2 guys, he sent 2 guys this time but they were not confident moving my piano but went ahead. They dropped the piano. I felt sorry for them because they were trying so hard and seemed afraid to call [redacted] for more help. [redacted] knew my inventory. I have had some health and personal issues so I did not get to play the piano until April 4, they moved me on Dec. 6. When I called [redacted] regarding this he was very very mean. He said have a piano expert come out and write up the damages then he would honor my claim. I paid the piano expert $85 and it took time and effort. I submitted the claim to [redacted] but I had to call x2 to even get a claim from him then he said it had been too long. The Public Utilities Commission and the contract state you have NINE months to claim. [redacted] still denied my claim. The piano played when it left Elk Grove and hadn't been touched since. This piano has been in the family for ever and I enjoyed playing it is a terrible loss and then to be treated like this? I called [redacted] as well, [redacted] claimed the PUC would handle, but so far nothing, almost 3 mos. later with it being confirmed the keys came off the pins when dropped and pictures were offered to [redacted] he waited the entire no more than 30 days to answer me NO just as if I had not hired the expert to confirm and gave him all the info. This is VERY bad business and very unkind and unlawful. Please help me deal with this dishonest and uncaring man who does not run a good business.Desired Settlement: I would like $500 for the piano damage at least and cost of estimate and the entire cost of the move since I have spent unnecessary, stressful countless hours on resolving this and still have no piano to play. His employees dropped it, he should pay to fix it and refund my money. I have been ignored and lied to....
