We were scheduled to install the radon system on October 8, 2013. When our technicians arrived, they discovered that the crawl space was really 16" tall and had many obstructions. A new price was provided to the Client over the phone, but the Client decided to cancel. We provided a revised written proposal on October 9, 2013 that took into account the shallow crawl space and the obstructions.
The homeowner decided not to go forward with the new contract. We refunded the deposit less the $150 cancellation fee and the $24.60 credit card convenience fee, per our contract.

Most of what is stated in the response is correct. However, we stick by the fact that we did not cancel. We would have moved forward that day with the contract as priced initially. The company stated that they could not honor the price of the original contract. It was they who canceled the contract and issued a new proposal. Only when we learned the price would increase by over $2,500.00 did we state we could not afford the new estimate.
We gave the information on sizing as best as possible in the original estimate. As the company stated, a portion of the crawl space was shorter (which we were unaware of) but the other 50% of the crawlspace was accurately describe as the depth we had stated. A large problem we have is the new estimate they wrote does NOT even reflect the depth of the crawlspace. We feel that if the depth of the crawlspace was the reason for keeping the money, it would have been listed on the new estimate. It is not.
We did not cancel the contract. The Radon Company should have confirmed their proposal before finalizing. Other Radon companies came out and inspected the space before providing an estimate. We had no issue that they could not perform the duty for that price. Our issue is that they kept money we do not feel they were entitled to.
Also, they stated to us via phone that they would return our funds. We had to call and ask for the status of the refund. They said it was "in the mail". Only after we received it did we find out we were shorted. They did not tell us they were reducing the refund amount (Emails attached).
