Review: Hello, this notice is in regards to [redacted] that I participated on Feb23rd, 2016. I have yet to receive my incentive payment from that study. When I initially signed on for the project, I received correspondence that payment would be received within 1-2 weeks after the project was done. Well that was not the case, as the two week passed by with no compensation, so I reached out to your offices to determine what was the delay. I was then told that payment was not mailed out until March 10th. So I was like OK, then the information

I received via correspondence is incorrect and needs to be changed or updated. SO a week had surpassed as on the 17th, I contacted the office again to inform them I still have not received payment, only to be informed that I needed to allow a total of 10 business days from the date the payment was supposedly mailed out. Therefore, another week surpassed and on the 24th, I again called to report that I have not received payment and that the check must have been lost in the mail. We verified again the correct address and asked when will repayment be made. I was informed they will need to check with accounting to issue a stop pay on the previous check and that a new check would be sent out on the 25th.

I ask if they method of delivery could be changed as it appears the [redacted] is not as reliable since the payment/envelope was lost. I asked if it could be shipped via faster delivery, only to be informed that it will once again go out snail mail. Then I ask that will I have to wait 14 days like the previous check to see if I receive at all, and I was informed, no only 10 days. I wish that this matter gets reviewed, and that appropriate action if any is taken at all, gets addressed accordingly.Desired Settlement: I am seeking to receive the agreed payment amount for participating in the survey and I would like payment to be expedited via [redacted] or [redacted] so that payment can be tracked and confirmed received as well as to hear back from the company confirming the matter.

Review: I was contacted by Elliot Benson Research over two weeks ago for a research group, which they said was a "mock jury". The guy asked me 20 minutes of screening questions, and then said I qualified for the group. He said, at the beginning of the call, that this study was for somebody who had a lot of time on their hands on Friday, June 27, and that it would pay $300. Of course I knew that I would make myself available that day for $300. He said the study would take about 8 hours, that I would report to a hotel in San Francisco at 8 a.m. on the 27th.He said that I would receive an email closer to the 27th with the details of where to report. About 15 minutes after the initial call, he called me back to verify that I work at least 32 hours a week. I told him that I did, and he said "Good, that's one of the qualifications." Then he said, "You're in!" He told me again that I would receive an email at some point before the 27th with the details of the study.By Monday night (the 23rd), I hadn't received an email confirmation yet, so on Tuesday I called to see when I could expect the correspondence. The woman who answered the phone asked my name, and then said "You're on stand-by." I asked what that meant, and she said that "if" I was chosen, I would receive a call in the next few days. I told her that I had been told that it was a definite thing, in fact I turned down work for the 27th because I had been told I was confirmed for the study. She said that she was sorry but I was only on stand-by. She also said "Wait by your phone for the next couple of days", which I found condescending.I asked to talk to the person in charge of the study, and was transferred to a manager named [redacted]. He said the same thing -- that I was on stand-by and shouldn't have been told that it was a sure thing. I told him that since I had set aside that day, and now it was only 3 days prior, they should make good on their commitment and compensate me. He said they couldn't do that. He said all they can offer is an apology.Desired Settlement: I would like to participate in the study as I was told, I cleared my schedule for the 27th so am available all day. But if they choose not to have me participate, I would still like the $300 they promised in the initial call, the call during which the Elliot Benson representative said "You're in!" It is not fair for them to ask people to make themselves available for an all-day study, and then 3 days beforehand, say "Sorry, you were given the wrong information."

Business

Response:

This is an unfortunate incident. We do not choose participants, our clients do. We do apologize for the miscommunication. We do have a protocol we have to follow and we never confirmed his participation by e-mail. Mr. [redacted] was informed that he was on stand-by. At this point we do offer our deepest apologies and hope he understands.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:

Their answer does nothing to resolve the problem. It is true that the client, and not the research firm, chooses participants. But the research firm, in this case Elliot Benson, does the recruiting, and they need to do that responsibly. They need to make it clear to the people they call that they may or may not be chosen.

The person who recruited me said "You're in" which led me to believe I was booked for the study, and it's the reason I turned down other financial opportunities for that day.

I understand that Elliot Benson wants to make sure that when the day of the study comes, they have enough people available to fill the quota, so they want people to keep the day open. So (as in my case) they "forget" to mention that this is a stand-by basis; if they had, I would not have refused other opportunities. I was told that I was doing this study, and that I would be compensated $300, so of course I set the day aside. But if they want people to commit their time, then Elliot Benson Research has to make a commitment too. If we participants are asked to commit to a full day (they said the study would be 8 hours) then they need to give us the financial compensation promised whether the client ends up choosing us or not. Saying they "apologize" and pretending it was a "miscommunication" will not work.

When I called them, three days before the study was going to take place, they said "Sorry, you should've been told you were on stand-by". That was the first I heard about being on stand-by, although in the message they sent Revdex.com it seems they're now claiming that I had been informed of that from the start. The day (three days before the study) that I found out that they didn't intend on fulfilling their commitment, they said they were sorry that the person who recruited me hadn't given me correct information -- so at that point they were acknowledging that it was their mistake.

It won't do to call this "an unfortunate incident" and dismiss it. I hope you will help me with this situation, it's very stressful and very disappointing to see a company such as Elliot Benson show so little regard for people's time, and then to deal with their mistake by calling it "unfortunate" and pretending that all they have to do is apologize.

There is a local television station in San Francisco, KGO, that has a program called "[redacted]" which helps consumers get proper treatment from companies who have unfair and/or unethical business practices. I have now contacted them as well, since I see from the message Elliot Benson sent that they are proving to be very unprofessional, and are still trying to avoid doing the right thing.

I sincerely thank you for your help in this matter.

Response:

Company states " They are sincerely apologize for what has happened and has offered to have you participate in a future research study. There would be an incentive paid for your participation. Would you consider that? Eliot Benson would keep your name and phone number handy as soon as possible have you participate in a future study. Again, they sincerely apologize for the circumstances and wish to make amend on a future study."
