Else Construction Reviews (%countItem)

Interior home maintenance project was supposed to take 2 months, according to general contractor; took approximately 6 months and is still not done.
See attached. I told Mr Else I manage depression and anxiety; I will provide 4 years of disability documentation, if needed. I am also a cancer and heart patient, currently age 70, and single by choice. My psychiatrist wants me to have NO further contact with Mr Else, who was emotionally abusive to me. He treated me like I was working for him. He told me he wanted to save me money whenever he could, which really meant he was going to put in the cheapest products he could to pad his profit margin. I lived in my house, which I have owned for over 25 years, during the entire project, which he said would take 2 months start to finish. After 3 and then 4 and then 5 and then 6 months I couldn't take it anymore. He left during the project to build a kitchen for his home town church, to go ice fishing, etc, whenever he chose to do so. An outstanding contractor who renovated the ENTIRE exterior of my house in 3 weeks referred me to Mr Else for the interior work. The exterior contractor volunteered to get lien waivers for me from Mr Else. Mr Else did not want to give the exterior contractor a lien waiver for himself, but it was secured. I made many phone calls and sent many emails to the subcontractors over more than a year's time; they also refused to finish the work. *** from Royal Flooring sent multiple installers to the house to "look" at the flooring installation issues, but only once did one of them, *** actually DO anything, and that work was shabby at best. *** told me, e.g., he replaced a plank in the bedroom where a corner broke off, but all he did was glue that corner down, which later broke off anyway. The original installers, hired by Royal Flooring, were C & C Flooring. Those two installers, "***" and *** discussed the use of illegal substances in my kitchen / dining room area on the job. "***" told me he was on morphine, percocet, and another prescription med for his back pain. "***" kept yelling at "Kevin", his stepbrother, for not cutting the planks to the correct length. After repeated requests, *** refuses to give me a copy of the flooring inspection report, which certainly documents a grossly inadequate flooring installation. The ceiling fans vibrate, the kitchen sink is not plumbed according to code, which *** with H & H Plumbing confirmed for me. *** also had to reinstall the battery back up for the sump pump, which Mr Else installed, because it would not have worked properly had it been needed, and the list goes on and on and on and on. The basement was finished first. I lived in the basement while they worked on the other two floors. The ONLY bathroom with a functioning toilet / sink / shower at that time was in the basement. The basement shower and furnace room floor drain backed up several times. Mr *** called someone to come fix that each time, at my expense. Another plumber later told me this all happened because the only functional bathroom was in the basement, thus causing the drains to back up. This entire experience was so traumatizing to me that my house LITERALLY looks like the contractors just walked out of the door. Because of the exacerbated depression and anxiety, there are still paint cans stacked in the corner of the dining room where they left them, totes everything, virtually no furniture, no wall art, etc. COVID-19 has also delayed submission of this complaint as well, as well as the fact that the attorney I was working with for over 2 years has now retired due to health issues. *** installed basement step "edge strips" of different colors. The ones of, supposedly, the correct color, which *** had delivered here, have been on the edge of garage floor for approximately four years, still uninstalled. There are also several boxes of flooring planks in the dining room that he delivered when the attorney was here. Those are still uninstalled as well. (Continued below . . . )

Desired Outcome

RESOLUTION: TO FINISH THE JOB AFTER APPROXIMATELY FOUR YEARS OF WAITING TO HAVE THE WORK COMPLETED (Continued from above . . . ) The only individuals who work with Mr *** who remained respectful to me during this project were *** and *** I would interact with them, if necessary. Jaspering Electric and Royal Flooring were most difficult to work with also. I had to have the store director from Home Depot here at my house with me to get anything done with the ceiling fans purchased at Home Depot, which as I said, still do not work properly. Mr Else replaced all nine ceiling fans in the house. The sliding door in the basement bedroom is not hung properly; sometimes I can get it opened and closed; sometimes I cannot. The laundry doors are VERY difficult for me to open and close. The "punch list" of remaining items is lengthy, to say the least. Royal Flooring also originally brought a flooring sample to my house that showed the flooring had a lifetime warranty. The little inserts in each box of flooring, however, states the installed has a 20-year warranty . . . proverbial "bate and switch". Mr Else caulked the joints in the driveway and sidewalk with WHITE caulk, which significantly detracts from the exterior of the house given the aged 20-some-year-old concrete. He said it was "the only color they had". The brace at the bottom of the entry bath pocket door he installed is also white, despite a very dark color scheme for the interior of the house. Again, he said it was "the only color they had". Water dripped from the entry bath ceiling fan he installed; none of the original bath ceiling fans did that. I had to have work done in the attic to correct the problem. The painters neglected to paint the ceiling over the kitchen sink, which I have now paid to have done. The lowest shelf of the shelving installed in the two north bedroom closets have dropped / broken because of not being reinforced well enough. Mr Else refused to have the interior painting done last, consequently the flooring installation, etc, dinged and damaged the new paint. NOTE: THE DATE BELOW THAT I LAST CONTACTED MR ELSE IS APPROXIMATE.
