I paid the tax preparer $85 to prepare taxes, on 3/9/19I was give copy and the were never filed by him. I received a letter from irs stating taxes not received, I called he stated it must have been a glitch with the irs and he would send promptly. I called 10 days later, no taxes received. I have reached out to him several times without response.
Today I received a complaint from your office (# ***) filed by a client that I prepared and filed their 2018 personal return for. In this complaint Ms. Debra *. *** states that she paid me $85 to prepare and e-file her personal tax return and I failed to file such return. I’ve provided proof to Ms. that I attempted to efile the return multiple times and the IRS rejected return because the social security number on file didn’t match the number on the tax return. After making Ms. aware of this she provided me her correct social number and I immediately retransmitted the return and it was accepted by the IRS. Accordingly I feel I’ve provided the service I was paid to provide and don’t feel I owe her a full refund. As a goodwill gesture I willingly to return $20 since there was a delay in my correspondence back to her on the rejected return. If there are any late filing penalties imposed by IRS I’ll cover those costs also. If you should need any additional information please let me know.
I’ve copied Ms. on this email so she can acknowledge if she is willing to accept my offer.
