We lost our year old golden retriever in 2012; it felt like we had experienced a death in the familyAfter months of being dog less, we decided to take the plunge and adopt a new fuzzy member to our familyWe researched golden retriever puppies in CT and found Emanuel Homestead in WoodstockThese pups were pricy but were beautiful, so we set up an appointment to go see the facilityThe owner Chris *** said, after reading our "application" that she had a week old male that was still available and what a wonderful opportunity this would be for us because we wouldn't have to wait until the next litter was born a couple of months out, potty training would be easier, and we would bypass a lot of the puppy issues that come along with having an week old puppyOf course after meeting the little sweetheart, we were smittenAs she gave us a few minutes to bond with our guy, we noticed a "seal of approval" was displayed prominently on wall of the kennelLow and behold, Michael *** (of Disney) had adopted a golden from ChrisIt's hard not to feel impressed with backing like thatWe signed on the dotted lineLong story short, within less than a year of owning Timber he developed lameness in his back legTook him to our vet and was told he had a lesion on his hip boneThey preformed FHO surgery to remove lesion and we proceeded to rehab him with physical therapyHe did ok over the course of a few months, but started to regressAfter taking him back to the vet and getting additional exrays, it was clear something more was going on in the same areaWithin months Timber was suffering from full blown bone cancerIt had progressed very rapidly in short orderThe options presented to us were bleakAmputation was absolutely necessary if we wanted to try and prolong his life a few months at best; followed up with chemotherapy, he might be lucky to live more year before succumbing to the bone cancerHe was only 1/He already suffered so much pain in his short life, he never really got to liveAfter spending $to adopt him and $on therapy, drugs and additional exrays, not to mention many sleepless nights worrying about himWe are in for more than $10,We had to make the gut wrenching decision to euthanize himThis was Tuesday of this weekIt's Saturday evening as I write this postWe are devistated beyond beliefI have since read so many sad reviews about this breeder and the puppies they sell and feel I must A.) We lost our 14 year old golden retriever in 2012; it felt like we had experienced a death in the family. After 3 months of being dog less, we decided to take the plunge and adopt a new fuzzy member to our family. We researched golden retriever puppies in CT and found Emanuel Homestead in Woodstock. These pups were pricy but were beautiful, so we set up an appointment to go see the facility. The owner Chris [redacted] said, after reading our "application" that she had a 15 week old male that was still available and what a wonderful opportunity this would be for us because we wouldn't have to wait until the next litter was born a couple of months out, potty training would be easier, and we would bypass a lot of the puppy issues that come along with having an 8 week old puppy. Of course after meeting the little sweetheart, we were smitten. As she gave us a few minutes to bond with our guy, we noticed a "seal of approval" was displayed prominently on wall of the kennel. Low and behold, Michael [redacted] (of Disney) had adopted a golden from Chris. It's hard not to feel impressed with backing like that. We signed on the dotted line. Long story short, within less than a year of owning Timber he developed lameness in his back leg. Took him to our vet and was told he had a lesion on his hip bone. They preformed FHO surgery to remove lesion and we proceeded to rehab him with physical therapy. He did ok over the course of a few months, but started to regress. After taking him back to the vet and getting additional exrays, it was clear something more was going on in the same area. Within 3 months Timber was suffering from full blown bone cancer. It had progressed very rapidly in short order. The options presented to us were bleak. Amputation was absolutely necessary if we wanted to try and prolong his life a few months at best; followed up with chemotherapy, he might be lucky to live 1 more year before succumbing to the bone cancer. He was only 2 1/2. He already suffered so much pain in his short life, he never really got to live. After spending $2400 to adopt him and $7000 on therapy, drugs and additional exrays, not to mention many sleepless nights worrying about him. We are in for more than $10,000. We had to make the gut wrenching decision to euthanize him. This was Tuesday of this week. It's Saturday evening as I write this post. We are devistated beyond belief. I have since read so many sad reviews about this breeder and the puppies they sell and feel I must A.) Warn other potential buyers "BEWARE" and B.) Do anything possible to prevent this breeder from continuing to breed and sell for profit these dogs. It's inhumain and downright criminal. I will be researching puppy mill laws in CT and obtaining any legal information that can help aid in shutting this operation down.
