Rented a home under their management for over 5 years. Everything was excellent for the first few years, then they implemented a change in management that remains as of current. This turned horrible with the new regime. They immediately tried to raise the rent in an area that's seasonal and turns profit via vacation rentals...they mainly deal with vacation rentals and greatly suffer in the annual rentals. They tried to make up discrepancies upon our departure which are currently being disputed. They don't care about the owner, they don't care about the renters, they only care about profit...would never recommend them to anyone other than vacationers unless they hired back the old management. Did I mention they failed to renew our lease under the management- 3yrs in a row, no email, no signing any agreements.

We rented a vacation condominium rental from Emerald Isle Realty that was 3 bedrooms. At arrival the king bedroom had no closets,doors,and was small.My husband([redacted])and I rented what we thought was a 3 bedroom condominium in Salter Path,NC in the Ocean Club condominiums unit [redacted] from July 13-July 20 through Emerald Isle Realty.Before we got there I asked several questions about the view, linens,and how they handled breakage or theft.They explained everything to me including the travel insurance.When we walked in Ocean Club F202,our first impression was a modern unit with an oceanfront porch.We saw a queen bed with a master bath with 2 sinks,a shower, and tub.To the left was a very small room with 2 twin beds and a closet that was about 2 1/2 feet wide with an upper and lower rod. The queen bedroom had the same size closet. I put my 18 year old daughter and her friend in the queen bedroom with the large bath since it was her graduation gift.The girls gasped when they saw how small the closet was.We proceeded down the hall and saw a king bed in a room with a very small amount of room to the side and front of the bed. It was pushed up against the wall so there was no access to that side of the bed.My husband and I were shocked to see there was no closet or window. Our immediate thought was it was a den originally.We called to report the sliding chair broken on the porch and the remote in the king room was missing. That wasn't fixed until Thursday or Friday but the man apologized.His name was [redacted] I believe. I then called [redacted] in customer service later since Sunday night the agents were off. I talked to [redacted] first and she kept saying over and over, I am sorry and this won't happen to someone again. I told her that really didn't help me. I talked to [redacted] next. I told her there was barely enough room to put our luggage and we were stepping on it because the room was so tight 9x10 feet maybe or a little larger.[redacted] said most people folded their clothes so why did we need a closet. I explained to her we were formal people and starched most of our clothing which had to be hung.She said she would give us $100 if we returned next year. I don't really see that happening.It was inconvenient to share a tiny closet with my teenage son who wanted privacy.I walked into the sales office at Ocean Club thinking it was a rental office for Emerald Isle. I talked to a nice woman that sold real estate for Ocean Club and she owned a soundfront unit and an oceanfront unit.She said the unit we were in was a 2 bedroom/den. She said F202 only had sewer access for 2 bedrooms.She said that never should have been marketed as a 3 bedroom.The condominium we rented in Wrightsville Beach last year was oceanfront and had a walk in closet in the master bedroom and large closets in the other 2 rooms.Isn't the rental of this unit violating safety, building, and fire codes? The only smoke detector was outside the bedroom.In closing, I feel like this property was misrepresented to me and omissions were made about the size, configuration, closets, and windows. This unit is 1144 square feet according to the Carteret County,NC assessment and gis.I was very inconvenient for my husband and I to go half clothed to get our outfit from my son's room.(which was tiny)which could not be more than 9x11 feet.Also that room is a fire hazard according to NC codes. That is because it does not offer access to the outside with a window or door that goes directly to the outside.(this is called egress meaning access)We just did not anticipate the disappointments and invasions of privacy this caused us. My husband was upset because I was so mad and kept mentioning it over and over.He wasn't happy either but really got upset when I was upset.It just put a damper on my vacation. It took 3 calls and 4 days later to get a remote.One of the customer service girls(i believe [redacted]) said she didn't have a tv in her bedroom. I told her we had one at home too and loved it.All the reactions from the customer service were snide and other passive aggressive comments were made.They tried to throw everything back to me through deflection.They made comments like can't you just fold your clothes.No we couldn't because they were hung up.They did not want to admit anything was done unprofessionally or wrong.(or dangerous)I have never rented a condominium that was so poorly represented.Business Response /[redacted]/We appreciate Ms. [redacted] bringing this to our attention; we're in the process of correcting our website to state that Ocean Club condos are two bedrooms with a den. This guest received a property valued at a base rate of $2595.00 for $2076.00, which is a rate reduction of $519.00. The owner also appreciates Ms. [redacted] brining this to our attention and for that they're giving Ms. [redacted] and her family a free 3 day weekend to be used before March 1st 2015! The only stipulation would be that we need a 45 day notice before arrival and they cannot block it off for Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Years Eve holidays. We are not satisfied with the outcome of this. The offer is insulting especially since I have a college student with limited time off.Getting back to the original premise of my complaint, we thought we were renting a 3 bedroom/2bath with a closet in each bedroom and that is not what we got. According to International Residence Code,the Home Builders Association of NC, the Carteret County, NC property card(which shows that the unit is a 2 bedroom,and also fire codes were broken when a fire alarm wasn't put in the king sleeping room. This is not a bedroom according to appraisers in NC.This was a misrepresented property with omissions. She realized that she should be nice to get me to pay at least part of my American Express bill. We went back and forth for about 2 weeks because I was out of town and she was out of town. I talked to my husband about everything and he agreed to pay total $1600.oo for the rental. When it came time to get a partial refund she didn't stand by what she said. I have the email if you would like a copy. Let me know how and where to send it. I faxed another 20 pages to american Express to explain my case and give evidence of misrepresentation and omission. Emerald Isle Realty is dishonest and I will never do business again. Their reservation agents and sales are rude and lie.It has made my husband and I very upset. Everything with this company is dishonest and bait and switch and I am done talking to them.American express is handling the dispute at the present time. No, once again [redacted] is wrong. I will not be a part of it anymore as well as my husband.
