Emerald Landscaping

Company was to install a gas line conduit from patio to gazebo for fire pit- prior to concrete being poured. Conduit not installed to code.In the summer of 2015 we contracted Emerald Landscaping to do a major backyard project including placing a gas line conduit from our patio area to out Pavilion(gazebo) area, prior to the concrete being poured for our new patio, sidewalk and Pavilion base.Emerald installed a 1.5" PVC conduit prior to the cement being poured and thereafter the cement was poured over the conduit. This was installed in anticipation of running a natural gas line for an outdoor fireplace. The cost was $400.00When [redacted], the company building the Pavilion realized that a 1.5" PVC pipe was used they advised me that this was not done to CODE REQUIREMENTS AND COULD NOT BE USED.We were advised to meet CODE a hardline copper needed to be installed as the use of flex line would not provide adequate supply and would NOT MEET CODE. As the concrete had already been laid, [redacted] had to work around the concrete and this process included trenching directly from the natural gas meter into the center of the Pavilion, laying the copper supply line and backfilling the trench. This cost us $4004.90.I provided a letter to Emerald on May 10, 2016 by e mail in which [redacted] stated that in their professional opinion the costs of running the hard copper line could have been lessened if the landscape contractor would have consulted a plumbing professional prior to installing the PVC conduit line that is cast in the concrete. The letter also confirmed that there was no regard for CODE in respect of the work Emerald did. [redacted]Desired SettlementWe are asking for a check in the amount of $400.00 as a refund for the work that was not done to Code relating to the gas line conduit.[redacted]Business Response [redacted]Emerald take necessary measures and contacted a Gas supply company that employs Licensed Gas Fitters.We were advised to install a Flex line. We have also witnessed Licensed Gas Fitters install a Flex Line to a Barbecue and also to a Furnace inside a Garage using a flex line. If the sleeve we installed was not to code, Emerald was led to believe by these other individuals that a flex line was to code. To settle this complaint, we agree to pay the complainant the 400.00 Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)We asked for $400 compensation.
