Dear Mr [redacted] , ? I'm sorry to hear that you are unsatisfied with your treatment at one of our locations.? You brought up a few different points in your complaint, so to make it easier, let me try to respond to them one by one "Their website claims, "We do not charge a premium just because we are an emergency clinic." Yet their prices are significantly higher."......We believe that our prices are very fair and reasonable, compared to a lot of other general dentist officeOf course if you want to price shop, you can always find other offices that charge higher or lower.? We are open days a week, so when you called us, were we able to get you in the same day, and provide treatment that same day?? Compare our prices with a visit to the Emergency Room at the hospital, and you will find that our prices ARE very reasonable "And their website doesn't make it clear that Emergency Tooth Doctor insists on full payment at time of service; they wouldn't work with me on an installment plan.".......Our Website states that we have a payment plan through Care Credit.? Did you try to apply for that?? When you go to any business and request for service, or to a store to buy something, do they not expect payment that same day?? Why should a dental office be any different? "I was told on the phone that a set of x-rays would be taken, and the fee was $That's what the fee turned out to be, yet for that sum, the technician DID NOT TAKE A FULL SET OF X-RAYS.".......When scheduling an appointment, we are very clear that the exam and xrays are going to be $98.? Would we take a full set of xrays of your entire mouth, when your chief complaint is just one tooth or one area of your mouth?? We are an Emergency dental office because our goal is to try to figure out what was causing your pain, and to try to resolve it for you "In my pain, my judgment was clouded, so I went along with a partial root canal for $347."........So let's assume that your judgement was clouded and you opted to have your tooth extracted.? Would you blame us for extracting your tooth?? We wouldn't do anything without your informed consent to do so.? We make you a willing participant in the decision making "This procedure has brought me nothing other than unending nerve pain and chronic headaches, and the front desk told me afterwards they would bill me another $to complete the root canal.".....This tooth was already causing you pain and suffering to begin with, hence why you came in to see a dentist.? The option that you chose to start the root canal was only a temporary treatment, and was meant to help alleviate the symptoms temporarily.? To resolve the problem entirely, you have to finish the treatment, whether with us, with another dentist, or with an Endodontist I hope that I was able to respond to most of your concerns.? If you have any other questions, please fee free to call me at my office Sincerely, Dr P [redacted] (503) 222- ? ? ? ? ? ?

just because we are an emergency clinic." Yet their prices are significantly higher."......We believe that our prices are very fair and reasonable, compared to a lot of other general dentist office. Of course if you want to price shop, you can always find other offices that charge higher or lower.  We are open 7 days a week, so when you called us, were we able to get you in the same day, and provide treatment that same day?  Compare our prices with a visit to the Emergency Room at the hospital, and you will find that our prices ARE very reasonable.

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because Dr. P[redacted] disingenuous series of claims underscores what an unprofessional, unethical, money-making racket Emergency Tooth Doctor amounts to. His staff did have a responsibility to counsel me on options other than a partial root canal. Chiefly, if my lower right molar is "very dead" as his employee Chanda C[redacted] described it, an extraction would have been a solution to the issue of that one tooth. Extracting the molar would have been more humane than charging me $347 for a supposedly 80% pulp removal procedure, then trying to wrest another $820 or so out of me to complete the remaining 20%, which is the kind of sleazy maneuver that only a crook would resort to. I asked Dr. C[redacted] what she had removed, and she replied, "I took out about 60% of the pulp." 60%, not 80%. I didn't even get what I paid for. And if ETD's phone intake person tells me that $98 will purchase a full set of x-rays, and if I'm complaining that my entire right jaw and gums on my right side are in excruciating pain -- as they were and as I did -- then why did P[redacted] lazy incompetent staff waste my money on x-raying only a single tooth? A dental X-ray provides valuable diagnostic information regarding the condition of the surrounding jawbone. ETD had an ethical and medical responsibility to look at and inform me as a patient of the bigger picture. All they did was rip me off, and P[redacted] insulting reply makes a mockery of my suffering. ETD's prices are highway robbery. I later learned that most root canals (complete not partial) average $700, not the $1100 + sum ETD tried to get. I told them upfront I didn't have insurance; the fact that I'm a low-income person who has a total of 4 grand in the bank didn't matter to them. They wanted 3K for one tooth, without doing anything to advise me on the overall health of my gums, jaw, other teeth. etc. Dr. P[redacted] absurd comparison of dental services to shopping anywhere and paying in full at time of purchase are unrealistic, utterly false, and amount to the kind of specious argument that a practiced charlatan would make: dental care expenses do not resemble a trip to the grocery store, or to buy clothes at a mall, and only a crook would pretend that they are comparable. I have done of lot of looking around at and researching other dental places in the last 10 days and the majority of them, unlike Emergency Tooth Doctor, do not make such false equivalencies and DO TRY to work out payment systems that are neither harmful nor hostile to the patient.Sincerely,[redacted]
