Emergency Veterinary Services of Roanoke Reviews (%countItem)

If you love your pet, BEWARE of this place. In late March, I took my cat in with a back leg injury for an x-ray to make sure it wasn't broken. I was given pricing in the parking lot and I approved costs up to $500 that day. They took the cat in, and I waited in the parking lot for about 2 hours (due to COVID-19). When they brought her back out to my car, they stated it was just a bad wound, that they had cleaned it, gave me 3 days of pain medication, and told me to keep her in for 2 weeks, and I went home and followed all instructions. At the end of the 2 weeks, I started to try to let her out again, but she still was not using her back leg, and just hobbled around on 3 legs. I watched closely over the next 2 weeks, and it became apparent that the cat's back leg is broken. With the swelling gone down, it's obvious that the leg/foot is bent in a peculiar way, and I'm sure was so brutally painful for her. It broke my heart! I called the vet back on Tues 04/28/20, to ask them what the x-ray had shown, and was told that "an x-ray was never taken". OMG! I was horrified! They told me the attending vet was not available, but would call me later in the day, so I waited that day, and all the next day; never received a call. I called again and demanded that someone call me to figure out how to help my pet. This morning, 4/30/20, Dr *** called me. She said the reason she didn't do an x-ray was to save me money! She didn't think I would want to pay for it because my cat was once a feral cat. I could not believe it! She then told me that this location does not even handle any type of orthopedics! SO WHY DIDN'T THEY TELL ME THIS WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAT IN WITH A POSSIBLE BROKEN LEG? I WOULD HAVE IMMEDIATELY GONE SOMEWHERE ELSE! It boils down to this, I paid $194 for Dr *** to clean my cat's wound, which I'm sure she did without concern for the cat's painful broken leg, since she had already decided, without consulting me, that it was too expensive to do an x-ray, even though I had money and had approved the charges! Then, she sent me home, with a cat in severe pain... and a broken leg! How could anyone that loves animals do that! I am beside myself with grief over this, and my cat is lame and can no longer run, play, jump, or get away from predators, if need be, as she did before. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!

I am so sorry that your kitty remained painful after the visit. We never want to an animal to be in pain. As an emergency room, we often deal with many types of wounds and injuries that require follow up with another veterinarian if things are not improving. When your kitty was brought in, we felt that the wounds could be a significant source of the pain. We attempted to address both the wounds and the pain at that visit. Knowing that your kitty was in pain after a few days, we would have happily seen her back for additional pain medications and to discuss further treatment. We also would have taken the x-rays when you called back and try to help you develop a plan of how to move forward with the care that she needs. Our goal is to try to help in any way we can. I'm so sorry that we didn't meet your expectations. Our entire staff loves all animals and it pains us when they are in pain despite us trying to do what we thought was right at the time.
