On September 2, 2016, our company was contacted by [redacted], owner of [redacted], to do a routine cleaning of the septic tank at her home. She and her husband Were living in the home at the time, but she did mention they were in the process of selling it. Our service technicians...

Completely emptied the septic tank for her on September 15, 2016.On March 16, 2016, our office was contacted by the current homeowner, [redacted], whom we have never done business with. At the time, she was having a backup in the house and stated that her plumber told her it is because the septic tank had not been properly emptied six months prior. To summarize how a septic tank works, an empty 1,250 gallon septic tank will fill back up after 1,250 gallons of water is used in the home. An average person uses about 70 gallons of water per day. As the [redacted]s continued to live in the home after we pumped the septic tank, it would have been full again in about nine days. I have attached a diagram of how a septic tank operates. After the tank is "full," when waste water leaves the home, the same amount is transferred to the absorption field. The point in pumping a septic tank is not to get rid of the waste water, but the sludge layer that forms at the bottom of the tank. The sludge layer is an accumulation of everything that is not naturally broken down by the bacteria/effluent process in the septic tank. This includes grease, oil, hair, disposable wipes, large clumps of toilet paper, feminine hygiene products, etc. Our service technicians always make sure they do the thorough cleaning they were hired to do - hence the fact that we have successfully been in business for over 65 years.Other components of the septic system may have been failing that would not be evident during a routine pumping. We always recommend a buyer have a thorough septic system inspection when purchasing a home, where all components of the System are checked and tested. A lot can happen to a septic System in six months, therefore we are not responsible for damage that may have occurred due to a septic system backup that occurred six months after we were on site. A simple leaky faucet or running toilet can cause a system to backup.Ms. [redacted] may have misunderstood me when I quoted a $125.00 fee to come out and Survey the situation at the home. I told her the charge would apply if it was shown the backup was not related to the service we had done there six months prior. I did hang up the phone after the [redacted] began using language which I felt was unproductive and unnecessary in a business conversation. Please feel free to contact me to further clarify our position on this issue.Sincerely,[redacted] Owner/General Manager Zaring Septic & Drain Service Inc.encl./diagram

Revdex.com:Thank you for following-up with [redacted].
I have reviewed the response made by the [redacted] with Zaring, reference to complaint ID [redacted], and today we had a 3rd party inspect the work that Zaring did (without them knowing who did the intial clean out) and it was found that  Zaring did empty the septic tank fully and correctly.   We paid a 3rd party Septic company that drove across town, $50 versus the $125 that Zaring would have charged to come only a few miles to a house he knew well.   All of this could have been avoided if [redacted] had not been dismissive and disrespectful to me and just treated me like a human being.  Perhaps he thought because he was speaking to a women that he could get away with it and only hung up when my husband took the phone.   I have 2 witnesses  to the way [redacted] spoke to me as I had him on speaker phone.  In the end, our septic is fine, so I am going to end this complaint here.
Respectfully,
[redacted]
