When the first appointment is scheduled with a client our intake coordinators tell theclient to check with their insurance company to make sure that they have out-patientmental health coverageIt is also up to the client to check with his insurance to see if theyhave a deductible, or any out of
pocket costsWe do not do this for them.*** gave the reason for his visit as "depression and anxiety for a long time"Basedon what the client says they are coming in for and what their insurance is, our intakecoordinators schedule the first visit with one of our therapistsIf he had told us during theintake process that he was unemployed we could have referred him to a state fundedcommunity clinic that has a sliding scale and/or accepts low income state insuranceWeare privately owned and do not offer sliding scale rates and do not take any ***plans*** is a counselor that works for ***, and he is not able to change ***'policies*** did not tel I our intake coordinators his circumstances.*** came into our clinic one time on S/9/He told us his insurance was *** *** *** is in network with *** ***We billed *** ***insurance and were told that his out-patient mental health insurance was through ***.We then billed *** applied his visit to his deductible on July 11, 2013.*** started sending statements to *** on 7/24/Statements were sentmonthly through December 18, *** did not make any payments or set up anytype of payment planIn February of his account was sent to collections.*** is very willing to work with clients to help them get their bill paid offWe acceptany payment no matter how smallHe did not make any paymentsHowever, once theycome in and are seen by one of our counselors, fill out and sign our paperwork, we billtheir insuranceWe are under contract with the insurance companies and must follow theEOB that is sent to usIn his case, his visit went to his deductible.I am sorry for his circumstancesHe received a bill from our clinic that he did not pay, anddid not attempt to set up any payment plan.Sincerely,Richard W***, Ph.D.Clinic Director

Complaint: ***I am rejecting this response because: The business's statement is not factual in nature The intake coordinator never informed me that it was my responsibility to make sure my insurance would cover the visitI believe they never asked or informed me of any payment/insurance information and didn't inform me that I would be billed for the consultation appointmentI had no statement of costs until I met up with *** at our visitHe then referred me to resources for public mental health providers due to the fact that they don't see any low (no) income patients
WIth the payment part of the statementI don't believe I received the first couple statements that they claimI vaguely remember seeing a statement for September but it was after I had open heart surgery and was in recoveryThis is the reason why I never respondedI believe I called their office once (not sure what date as it was a long time ago) and discussed how I didn't feel that it was fair that they were billing meI can't remember what happened out of it as I was suffering from postperfusion syndrome from the ***If I knew that they would have sent this to collections I would have reported them a long time ago.
With this I will settle this on my half for $for it to be out of collectionsI still do not feel it's fair to charge me at all but I just want this settledOnce a written agreement is written for $I will cut the checkI feel that if I had more evidence and money I would have reported them for claims under RCW I never agreed to the terms *** Had given me and I feel that they need to recheck their ways of doing business
Sincerely,*** ***
