Initial Business Response /* (1000, 10, 2015/03/13) */
The first point I would like to address is that the so called experts hired by Mr*** are far from being experts ***
Northern Alberta Energy Savers Ltdwas hired by Mr.*** to install insulation only to
the atticThis was accomplished in a professional manner using a premium product that is very widely used in the industry
The condensation problem has nothing to do with the installation of insulationFollowing are three reasons why condensation has occurred
This year there have been many freeze and thaw cycles that cause condensation
2.Construction practices that were used years ago have changed a great dealFor example standard heel trusses were used back then which translates into minimal space in which to apply insulation
3.Code requirements have also changed for fan location and type of venting
The only way to alleviate this problem is to re-vent the bath fan to code requirements
It is our position that we accomplished the job we were hired to do in the best manner possible including insulating and weatherstripping the hatch

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2014/10/01) */
Mr.[redacted] emailed some photos of the area in question. Upon speaking to my installers, they indicated that there was no possible way that they could have caused this crack of approximately 2 1/2 feet in length. If a foot were to go...

through drywall it would leave a hole not a long crack. Our installers are well trained and honest men. I have also had an architect review the photos and it is his position that the damage could not have been caused by a foot going through drywall. It is our company policy that if an accident occurs to a customers premises, we take full responsibility.
I spoke to Mr.[redacted] and explained our position that the crack he is referring to was previous damage and suggested that he get an independent consultant in to verify his position. I indicated that if it could be proven that we were are fault we would gladly cover the costs. [redacted] At no time was I unprofessional.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2014/10/03) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
1) There is no way that the crack was apparent prior to the installation or the company would have seen and recorded it as it is quite noticeable.
2) Their contention is that if they stepped onto the ceiling from above, they would have gone right through. My contention is that they may have stepped on the ceiling from above. I have not indicated that this is the only way that the crack could have been caused. I also offered the explanation that they have put too much insulation in the attic and that the weight of the insulation may be the cause of the crack.
3) When in discussion with the warrantee woman from Alberta Energy Savers, she was indicating that they would have gone right through and I said that what she was saying was silly and if that was their explanation I could not accept it. She then said and I quote, "don't call me silly", and then hung up on me. [redacted]
It was at this point that I felt there would be no reasoning with the company and that I needed to try to use another method to realize some form of acceptance.
Further, it is true she mentioned that they would pay for the repair if we had an engineering firm complete a report on the damage. However, the report needed to indicate fault of the company. It was also mentioned that they will not pay for the cost of completing the inspection and the report and this is likely to be more costly than the repair itself.
I am not sure what to do with this so I will leave it in your hands to move toward some form of resolution.
To this day, Alberta Energy Savers have not come to our home to look at the damage and have only seen photo's sent from my phone.
Final Consumer Response /* (3000, 11, 2014/10/27) */
Please find attached a copy of the report completed by Mr. [redacted] of [redacted] Home Inspection Services regarding the crack in our ceiling.
On Friday October 24, [redacted] of [redacted] Home Inspection Service, was called out to the home of [redacted] of [redacted] Edmonton, to re-inspect a crack in the ceiling of his master bedroom. The home had been previously inspected and low levels of insulation were noted. No cracks in the ceiling were visible at time of initial inspection. Mr. [redacted] followed the advice in the inspection report to have additional insulation added to his attic. A crack in the ceiling was noted after the insulators finished their job. Observations noted at the time of the re-inspection included a crack roughly 18-20
inches from the attic hatch in the master bedroom ceiling; the attic hatch is located in the master bedroom closet. Since the hatch access is restricted due to roof design, allowing the hatch cover to only be moved inwards toward the master bedroom it is plausible that the attic hatch would rest between two trusses during the insulation installation. The crack is on a drywall seam which shows signs of displacement from above. For the insulators to do a thorough job they would have had to enter the attic space, and with the restricted access it is highly possible that pressure on the ceiling would have been caused at this time.
Repsectfully,
[redacted] Home Inspection Service
Final Business Response /* (1000, 18, 2015/01/19) */
Regarding the report of [redacted] of [redacted] we suggest that Mr. [redacted] is not qualified to make an assessment on structural damage.

Our response to his report:
1. It is not our policy or responsibility to inspect drywall prior to insulating an attic.
2. The additional weight of the insulation that was added is less than half a pound per square foot. This is not sufficient to cause any issues on drywall.
3. The normal damage to a drywall ceiling is seen as a multi crack exposure not a single long crack.
4. The attic hatch is always removed by our installers upon arrival of the job and taken to the truck to insulate. An attic hatch must be removable as they are initially installed after the drywall is installed.
