Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2017/06/25) */
It is totally against my nature, my value system, and who I am as a person and doctor to say anything derogatory to, or to be insensitive to anyone or any patient, especially when it comes to weight issues.
Said patient was referred to me...

by a local Optometrist, Dr. [redacted] for papilledema. She complained of black spots in her vision with bending over, and headaches. She also stated she gained 60 pounds during the pregnancy which she had not yet lost. All of these factors, with the evidence of optic nerve swelling, strongly suggest the diagnosis of Pseudotumor Cerebri (also called Idiopathic Increased Intracranial Pressure).
The definitive and most benign treatment for PseudoTumor Cerebri is weight loss.
With her, or any patient with this as a possible diagnosis, I discuss methods of weight loss, including avoiding high calorie and high fat foods, and to start a low-impact exercise program like walking.
I am unsure where this patient would have gotten the impression I urged her to stop breast feeding. I am a strong proponent of breast feeding. It is proven to provide multiple benefits for infants. In addition, nursing would have no adverse effects or worsen the symptoms she was experiencing-on the contrary, it could ease the complaints she presented with because of the fact that breast feeding is known to aid in postpartum weight loss.
I am very bothered that a patient would perceive anything but professionalism and compassion from me. I did send a Certified Letter to this patient with my sincere apologies for any misperception.( that letter is included). I am confident that my diagnosis and medical treatment, and my conversation with her was the same high standard that I give all my patients and the bill she received reflects this medical service.
I have attempted to include my letter to the patient below and have not been successful. Please advise if there is another way I can submit this letter for your review.
Thank You

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2017/07/05) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I do not accept Dr. [redacted]'s response.
There seems to be a disconnect between the level of Service Dr. [redacted] actual provides and what he believes he provides.
His certified letter offering his 'sincere apologies' is not an apology at all. He apologized for feelings I had leaving his office and he apologized for what may have been 'misconstrued' by me. His letter was an attempt to smooth out the issue without taking ownership of the problem. He never apologized for the degrading words and unprofessional manner of the appointment.
Dr. [redacted]'s denial of his statements during the appointment is alarming. I know what Dr. [redacted] said to me during the appointment and I am not loosely interpreting the words. I was so convinced Dr. [redacted] would follow up on his stated action of calling my personal physician to discuss ceasing breastfeeding that I followed up with my personal physician to ask if their office was ever contacted; thankfully he never called like he said he would.
As far as the optical nerve medical concern. I scheduled an appointment with Fort Wayne Cataract and Laser Institute. The appointment went well (excellent customer service) and the proper diagnosis was made.
I still request a zero balance. Dr. [redacted] already received partial payment from the insurance company which matches the level of service provided.
