Engines Direct Distributors Reviews (4)

I purchased a motor last year in July and the person who put it in kept my car through Hurricane Harvey I got my car back on November 5, 2017. My car was pulled to me the person who replaced the motor was Kris Bernanrd he said that I needed an alternator because it had a high voltage so in May I finally pulled it to someone and they said that all the ground wires were to the motor so when I stated driving my jeep the oil light would come on and off needless to say I would'nt drive it to much because It would smell like oil was burning so I took it to someone to check the oil pressure and they told me that I had a bad oil leak. so now at this present time August 2018 I'm going to have to pay to get the motor rebuilt I haven't even put to many miles on I paid $2494 for the motor including the core and now I hadn't even drove the car for a month and have to pay $1798 to get the engine pulled to get the crank shaft, main bearings and oil pump replaced and it only had 1 year warranty my mechanic told me in the near future if I need a motor there's a place in Houston that has a 3 year warranty so I wouldn't use this company again I was so happy to get a new engine because a used one cost just as much but I wouldn't recommend this company I should have read the reviews before ordering. I don't make a lot of money I'm a Teachers aide so I lost money that I don't have wouldn't recommend this company again

I'm at a shop in California, the shop owner decided to shop e bay for a replacement engine for a Ford F-150 that had seized. After installing this pile of s... and getting it running it started to show problems right away. It idled fine until it got to operating temp. Then that's when things went south. It developed a chirping noise like a belt or pulley. We removed the serpentine belt and ran it the noise was still there. Called Steve Ricehouse he told me to put a motorcraft filter and conventional 5w30 motor oil in (factory calls for 5/20). After I did that the motor sounded the same. He also said I should use only ford phasers and VVT solenoids. I also replaced the phasers I installed with factory parts. This did not help in the slightest bit. I have plenty of experience with the triton 3 valve motors and I know what low oil pressure symptoms look like. I took out the old trusty oil pressure gauge and proceeded to verify my instincts. The oil pressure cold was just below 50 psi seems good to me... after about 10 minutes at idle the pressure dropped to between 0 and 5 psi. This is a problem since the phasers rely heavily on oil pressure and flow to control the camshaft timing. I was getting rded cam timing codes and the truck would stall, it wouldn't idle at all. It was my decision to remove this engine (again)and tear it down. Just draining the oil (into a clean pan)that had less than an hour of run time was a huge clue. The oil had so much metal in it even for a fresh build I was alarmed. I removed the pan and it was glitter city big flakes of metal in it. My inspection of the bottom end revealed that EDD had used a bad crank (the thing was blued from a previous spun bearings issue) so they just cut it. I don't think they plastigauge any bearing clearances. Then I looked at the cylinder walls and the piston skirts. OMG I'm no machinist but this is the worst I have seen. This engine didn't even have 2 hours of running on it and the pistons had rubbed the coating off the skirts as well as caused 2 inch patches of scoring the entire stroke length on at least 3 cylinder walls. The pistons were seizing or the clearance is so effing tight at normal operating temp they were sticking in the bore. This is the chirping sound I was hearing. I tried to wiggle the pistons at bottom dead center and there was almost no give. It sounds like Steve Ricehouse is trying to lay blame on my end for this poor example of a rebuild. Either way my shop is out time and money dealing with this engine builder. It is postponing other work I have sitting here. I wouldn't use these clowns to rebuild a rake let alone a complicated machine. These guys just think they can paint and cut their way to being reputable machine shop. You boys got a lot of learning to do. I seriously wouldn't even give them 1 star.

Engines Direct Distributers, LLC Does not honor their warranty. After running one of their "remanufactured" engines for 8K miles, the crankshaft broke and they refused to stand behind the product. They even told me that the way the warranty is written, that it doesn't cover anything. Any money spent with this company is money you will lose when the engine fails and you will still be in need of an engine at YOUR expense.

At first Engines Direct seemed to have supplied a solid rebuild. After chewing up parts however, after install, it was discovered that the crankshaft was out of spec. After speaking with their 'warranty' contact and, they refused to even acknowledge that the crankshaft (an internal part vital to rebuilding an engine) was not covered! They even tried to claim that it wasn't part of the rebuild until they discovered that I understood the inner working of an engine, at which point they became quite defensive and refused to allow me to finish a sentence. If the internal parts on a re-manufactured engine are not covered, one wonders what exactly IS covered, perhaps only the high-temp paint job they coat the block with?
