I spoke with the installer twice, he told me that engine compression was 90-105 on all 4 cylinders. Not no compression. So I was thinking that it was a valve timing issue. Nothing that we did. When the timing belt is installed if incorrectly, valves can be bent when the engine is turned over. Even...

by hand. We build 150-175 subaru engines a year and have seen this issue before. I offered to send this customer a low mileage engine from Japan (an EJ20, not a 2.5like the 2.5 rebuilt that we originally shipped) as a solution. We have sold about 350 EJ20's to replace the 2.5. An EJ20 + about $1300 refund. It was a good solution from our point of view. Customer opted to send back the rebuilt engine to be repaired and shipped back to him, which we agreed to pay the shipping. This is shipping to Alaska. which is much more expensive than lower 48 shipping. We consider issues like this as part of the cost of doing business, in an attempt to accommodate the customer. When we got the engine and removed the cylinder heads, all of the valves were slightly bent, which is what I thought probably happened in the first place. When we rebuild a cylinder head, all of the valves are removed and resurfaced. We chuck each valve into a valve grinding machine(like chucking a drill bit into a drill chuck). If a valve is bent it cannot be resurfaced. So no engine that leaves our shop has bent valves. It is not possible. When we shipped the original engine it did not have bent valves. Just not possible. I'm not accusing anyone of anything here. Just stating the facts. On 6-9-19 8:33PM I received an email from our email server (Mailbox Capacity Exceeded) On 6-10 I deleted many emails to make space for new ones. I received my first email on 6-10 at 7:35 AM. That is what happened with the "undeliverable" email the customer is referring to. I attached a copy of the "Mailbox Capacity Exceeded" email to Revdex.com, and also a copy of the Bill Of Lading dated 6-10-16 for the shipment of the repaired 2.5 Subaru engine. When I spoke to the customer on 6-10-16 I told him that all of the valves were slightly bent. That is about as definitive an answer to what the original problem was as is possible. That's what happened. We do not sell used JDM EJ2.5 single overhead cam engines(2000 and newer). For 2000 to 2005 we sell a low mileage JDM(japanese domestic market) for 2000n -2005 subarus' to replace the 2.5 USA engine. Both engines have a casting mark on the top front left of the block that says EJ25 or EJ20. It's very clear.
