Ennett Realty Reviews (1)

They took 250 dollars from our security deposit for a 'cleaning fee' which is not legal in NC. It was perfectly clean. They also lied several times.I have been seriously mistreated by [redacted] Realty upon move out. The first time we moved out was because of a surprise deployment. We were given two weeks' notice and we told that to [redacted]. We proved it with the written and signed orders. She still charged us half a month's rent despite our lack of warning and our proof. We moved back in after the deployment because of a lack of options in the area. The house was very dirty and many things were stained when we moved in both times. We complained but not much was done (she took 70 off our rent for cleaning fees to me (to clean it myself)) and we were told that it's just stained and that's how it is (it was stained, but it was also incredibly dirty and grimy everywhere). When we just moved out for the last time, they took 250 of our security deposit to pay for 'cleaning', a 're-check fee' and for painting the walls. It is illegal to take money out of a deposit for cleaning fees. Also, it was perfectly clean when we moved out. We scrubbed and cleaned it very thoroughly and she said that there was one smudge in the refrigerator and that the toilets and showers were stained. Those were the exact things we were told were stains and that they couldn't do anything about when we moved in...we were then blamed for them when we moved out. She refuses to do cleaning checks while you are still living in the home and only does them after you move out. It's incredibly unfair since it gives you no chance to 'fix' any supposed problems and makes it easy for them to just charge you for it. I feel like they claim the dirtiness and charge everyone and then don't even charge any cleaning services (since when we moved in both times, it was filthy). She also charged a 're-check' fee. She also charged us for the re-painting. This one was a straight out lie. We called about a week before move out to ask about the paint. We said we would be happy to thoroughly clean the walls and re-paint certain areas since there was damage. She said not to worry about it since they will be re-painting anyway due to the length of time we lived there (2 1/2 years). She said it's fine. Then she went and charged us for it! I was shocked that she would lie to us when we were being proactive and volunteering to do the work. She refuses to admit that this conversation even happened. It's shocking how much they have lied to us. My husband had to go back up to NC to 'check out' of the military base there, and on that trip, he decided to call them and work everything out (back when we thought they would be reasonable and admit fault and give us the money back). He called [redacted] and she again refused to help. He thought that maybe Mister [redacted] would be upset to know what [redacted] had done and that at least he would repair things. He called [redacted] and asked to speak to Mister [redacted] and she said 'You have the wrong number'. He did this twice (she must have known it was him). He then made the call as he was walking in the business in person and she said the same thing! She lied and he saw her do it. He accused her of lying to him, and [redacted] (her boss, Mrs [redacted]) came out and they both said that Mr. [redacted] isn't there, and that technically [redacted] did not straight out lie since [redacted] called [redacted]'s phone (so it was technically not Mr. [redacted]'s number and so it was technically a 'wrong number'). Instead of transferring the call like she should have done she tried to just stop [redacted] in his tracks. Both women then say that Mr [redacted] isn't even there. Mr [redacted] then walks out asking what he could do to help. So he caught both women lying to his face twice, unwilling to repair the false charges. They still will not admit what they've been doing and now I suspect they do this regularly because many Military members cannot come back to deal with the unfair charges (they have no option or freedom to do this) and I feel that they purposely take advantage of this. They are stealing. It's sickening. Desired SettlementThey owe us 250 dollars.Business Response Ennett Realty has been in business doing long term property management for more than 50 years. We have never had anyone to file a complaint with the Revdex.com about our business practices. We pride ourselves on providing a service to the military community since we are located just outside the Sneads Ferry gate of the Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base. We are well aware of the NC Real Estate laws, rules and statues concerning "Residential Rental Contracts", and "Early Release by Military Personnel". We advised the party in question to refer back to their contracts and addenda that were signed and dated September 3, 2012, and again as they returned after deployment for a second tour here on July 31, 2013. (If they were not satisfied with our company after their first tenancy, why did they apply to rent from us again?) In these documents, they will find that we were fully justified to withhold the amounts deducted for rent owed, cleaning, repairs, and administrative fees. We enclosed the invoices as required and we distributed to them the remainder of both security deposits which they have cashed (which signifies acceptance) before they filed the complaint. We gladly gave the party in question a great reference which we provided upon request in writing for them to use to find a residence at their next duty station. Consumer Response We only cashed the check because they refused to give us the remaining money. I told them about the illegality of what they were doing and they refused to listen or even properly respond. We only rented with them again because we were desperate and I had just had a baby (2 weeks old) and my husband had just returned from deployment AND we were house hunting from another state at the time. We had no time to find a proper place to live and so went back to Ennett, which was a ridiculous mistake on our part, and we will not be making it again, that's for certain. I want to get our money back but they are acting like crooks behind weird loopholes. There's not much to be done, but I still expect that check mailed (250 dollars).
