Unprofessional
My neighbor hired these guys. One day I get up and my driveway is blocked by their cones and truck as they trimmed tree at the property line. I had a medical appointment that day (nerve racking) so didn't go out and complain right away while I got ready. I was rushing around to get out the door when the doorbell rings and one of their guys tells me to move my car - move my car in my own driveway for a neighbor's project? Is it not required by law to give 48 hour notice to people who might be affected by such a project? I went to my appointment. When I returned, they were on my lawn. Trespassing! I confronted them. The acted stupid, "I'm just a tree climber." I could go on but overall they blocked my access to my driveway, demanded I move my car, and trespassed all while being just plain stupid. This is entirely uprofessional. Licensed, bonded, and insured, maybe, but either intentionally (company culture) or ignorantly (company culture) ignoring laws.

Received an estimate for tree work from this company and it was scheduled for Thursday, May 21. They came and removed trees and pruned tree branches/shrubs. I asked why they didn't grind stumps and was surprised to learn that would be scheduled later. I was told "the stump guy will call and remove stumps within 72 hours." I called and paid my bill and asked the financial person (whoever that was) about the stump portion and she said the guy would call me within 72 hours and that if I didn't hear from him by Tuesday, May 26 to let them know. Well, I never heard from him so I emailed and received a very abrupt reply hours later that said "Stump grinding is scheduled for Wednesday." There was no other info: no time given, and I had been told I would be called and never got a call. This felt odd to me so I wrote back and asked for more info and was duly ignored. In fact all my emails questioning their business practices have been ignored. I have no idea if this company is coming or not. I paid in advance which was a big mistake. I was never told stump grinding would be done on a separate and I was disappointed about that--now it's delayed and now who knows what is going on. I asked them to confirm that they don't come and to refund me and have heard nothing. This is a very strange and unprofessional company and I regret hiring them. It didn't have to be this way but the owner obviously doesn't care about ripping people off and leaving them hanging and that's shameful of him. I have a sick pet that needs to get to the Vet tomorrow (she hasn't eaten for two days) and I told my Vet about this awful tree company problem: my fear is that they'll show up and do work without my supervision and then if they screw up, I'll have no recourse. I've read other reviews of this business and I am not alone in what I have experienced. Again, it's a shame and it didn't have to be this way.

Environmental Tree Care Response • May 27, 2020

On May 13th Mrs. was sent the proposal that is attached along with all the e-mail streams. On May 13th she also accepted this proposal. This proposal does make it clear that the Stump Grinding is usually done within 72 hours after the removal of tree's (Weekends and Holidays excluded). Work was completed on the tree's on 5/21/2020 (Thursday). So due to the weekend and the Memorial Day Holiday, the stumps would be completed approx on 5/27/2020, this is within the 72 hour period. Please read the e-mail streams between Mrs. and Environmental Tree Care. We have been nothing but respectful in our corresponds with her but are not getting the same in return. We have gone out today 5/27/2020 and completed the work as we promised and we have honored the contract in full.

We are sorry that the contract was not reviewed thoroughly so there would be no confusion. We do recommend that any contract be reviewed prior to acceptance of the work.

Sincerely,

Environmental Tree Care

Customer Response • May 28, 2020

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because: This company (by that I mean their office staff) is very unfriendly and unprofessional: they don't even bother to identify themselves when responding to emails or when answering the phone (or a name is mumbled). They admitted to me they received every single one of my emails yet they only responded when they felt like it and I caught them in several "inconsistencies."It was never discussed with me that stump grinding takes place "within 72 hours" later and if I missed that in the contract I apologize (but it should have been discussed as they supposedly pride themselves on customer service). I was told the crew was coming on Thursday, May 21 and I was given a window/arrival time. After the tree cutting/pruning was done I immediately called to pay my bill and asked when the stump grinding would be scheduled. I think it's only fair a customer be given a window/arrive time and date for this additional work to be done so they can plan accordingly. I was told by a woman in the office to call her if I didn't hear from the stump grinding guy by Tuesday, May 26. A lot of companies work over the weekend...I understand this was a holiday weekend but their "office" hours are not clearly indicated anywhere so I had no idea if they consider Saturday to be a work day or not (their work hours/days are not stated on the contract, nor do they state "within 72 hours based on business days"). With COVID-19 a lot of businesses have unusual work schedules these days. I emailed Tuesday morning to follow up on the stump grinding, expressing my concern about it, and didn't hear back until the afternoon with a blunt: Sorry you're unhappy. You're scheduled for Wednesday." Nobody signed their name to the correspondence, nor did they give any additional info. I wrote back and asked for a window/time frame. That email was ignored. I then indicated that I had a very sick pet that needed to go to the Vet on Wednesday and that a time frame would be helpful so I could schedule a Vet appointment (I have the Vet bill to prove I am not lying about this and I am frankly pissed off they gave me the runaround on this--it stressed me out and my Vet was not amused). And I heard nothing. That really annoyed me. I expressed my disappointment (which they consider disrespectful). No expletives were used and I stated facts--they are just being sensitive to my criticism instead of putting themselves in my shoes and realizing they probably wouldn't want to be treated this way if they were a customer. I then received a nasty email from them stating that they don't give EXACT times and I can't expect them to tell me exactly when the tree stump grinding guy is coming because he could hit traffic. I responded to let them know at no point did I ask for an EXACT time but merely asked for a window (which they had provided for Thursday, May 21 without issue) so I could coordinate an appointment time with my Vet for Wednesday, May 27. When I finally spoke with someone in their office (Vivian?) and told her about the Vet situation she said, "This is the first I am hearing about a sick pet." Hmm....and yet it was admitted in writing that they received and read every single one of my emails. This is one of many "inconsistencies" I caught them in. Another is, "If you don't hear from our stump grinding guy by Tuesday, call us" and yet they state that Wednesday is 72 hours later due to the holiday. Again, their work days/times are not indicated anywhere nor are they clear in the contract about what constitutes 72 hours--per the language on the contract, and according to my attorney, I would win a case against them for the ambiguity as 72 hours from Thursday would be Sunday. What is disturbing is that they also state on the contract they are not responsible for any errors--that says it all about this company covering themselves if they screw up. Not a company I want to do business with ever again. I have no doubt they will now change the language in their nasty contract to cover themselves for the ambiguous 72-hour language...yeah, YOU'RE WELCOME!As far as being respectful: I can show emails that prove they were very abrupt and rude when they finally bothered to respond to my inquiries but it's not worth dealing with this company and wasting any more of my time and energy on them. If it makes them feel better to think they are right, they can be right...I don't really care at this point. Their workers are nice (the guys in the field) but their office staff is rude (and this is the reason I did not use ETC in the Fall of 2019--their office staff was very pushy and kept nagging me to sign a contract before I had a chance to review it--and now I know why: they throw the contract in the customer's face if something goes wrong). I will be letting everyone I know to use other companies for tree and landscaping services. I have nothing good to say about this company overall because the office staff is so terrible. It's a shame for the nice guys who work there and do tree work in the field. The owner should be made aware that his office staff is undermining his business but I suspect he is not aware or does not care.

Sincerely

I went onto home advisor and requested quotes for tree care. Environmental Tree Care LLC was one of the businesses that came up as an option. I received a phone call from them the following day and they left a voicemail. I did not contact them back to schedule an appointment for estimate. A man showed up at my house unannounced, uninvited and LIED to my underage daughter about me missing their calls and an appointment. This is manipulative and fraudulent behavior and I will NEVER recommend this company to anyone. I called to lodge a complaint and the woman who answered acted like it was my fault. I donÃ?Â?Ã?Â?t know who is running this company but they should really take a look at how they are doing business and who is representing them and know that word of mouth travels fast. I will tell all my neighbors, coworkers and friends to stay away. I have a full home security system and will be happy to call 911 if they show up again.

DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! They are negligent, dishonest, and unprofessional!
Environmental Tree Care came out in June and trimmed our large silver maple. They put three holes in our roof! The arborist didn't tell us (even though apparently he DID know about it), and we had to find out the hard way: As we were sitting in our living room after it had been raining all day, water started pouring through our ceiling. I called Environmental Tree Care right away to inform them and it took them five days to return my call. It took the owner, Ken, another week to come and look at the damage. Ken told me he would be at my house at 5:00. When he didn't show I went to the grocery store. He called me a little after 6:00 and said he was at my house. I told him to wait and I'd be home in 10-15 minutes. When I got home, he had already helped himself to my backyard and my ladder and was up on my roof with his own roofer. They proceeded to tell me that while they would take responsibility for the damage, my roof was not up to code and listed a handful of things that were wrong with it. Mind you, I'd already had two roofers come and inspect it prior to this and both of them said that it was fine except for the damage Environmental Tree Care caused. Foolishly, I also let them look at the water damage caused inside our house, and the roofer started ranting about how there was previous water damage, and you could see old patch jobs, and blah blah blah. The house was built in 1959, so I'm sure there may have been patch jobs for various things in a house this age. We've owned it for just under two years, and of course had it inspected before we purchased it. There was absolutely no visible damage prior to them trimming our tree, and up until then we'd NEVER had an issue with the roof leaking. Ken asked me how much the estimates were for repairs and said he would rather just give me the money for the repairs. He asked not to go through my insurance. He even suggested I "patch" the damage and just pocket the rest of the money. Of course, I went through my insurance company, who is currently going after his insurance for the cost of repairs and my deductible. Ken completely lied and told his insurance company that there was already damage to the roof and water damage inside our home and that he doesn't feel he is liable for the cost of repairs (after he told me multiple times they are an honest company and he would take responsibility). I think what makes me most upset is that he has the audacity to lie about it and couldn't care less about the amount of stress and destruction this has caused in our lives. The water damage is in our living room, where us and our three children spend most of our time when we are at home. We've had to completely empty that part of the house and all of our furniture is piled in the front of our house, which is also now unusable space. We have been dealing with this for nearly a month now, and are still trying to sort out repairing the damage. I've taken multiple days off of work to have people come to the house to demo the living room (ceiling and walls), give estimates, and do inspections. I will have to take off even more time from work for the repairs. Not to mention I'm paying my deductible out of pocket for damage that Environmental Tree Care caused. They are crooked, negligent, liars and you SHOULD NOT TRUST THEM!

I hired a crew from Environmental Tree Care to cut down my cottonwood in my backyard very close to my house. Josh (the one who actually did the climbing and cutting), Dakota and Zak did their job professionally and left the place as before - minus the cottonwood. They were very courteous and I was very pleased with the job they did. I will make sure to use this company again if the need arises.
