At this point we have ended all contact with Erie Custom Exteriors. Clearly, they as a company are going to argue any point that we bring up, and blame anyone or anything else for mistakes they have made. This is nothing new, and in fact is one of the major reasons we had to fire them. The bottom line is that we have subpar construction, an incomplete and leaking roof, and water damage throughout our existing home, and the new addition that they built. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter

I am writing in response to explain why we reject the response of Erie Custom Exteriors to our complaint. I had the Harborcreek Township building inspector (it was the same inspector that originally reviewed the project) to inspect the area where we had water leaking into our residence as well as to inspect the house to try and understand why we had such large amounts of ice accumulation on our house. The building inspector informed us that the soffit was not vented on our home when it was installed by Erie Custom Exteriors which created the large ice accumulation. The building inspector explained that since the soffit was not vented, it does not provide any opportunity for air to flow correctly which created large ice accumulation on the house. The building inspector also informed us due to the fact the house can not breath, we will experience future problems with this and it needs to be corrected.  When we informed Erie Custom Exteriors of this problem over the winter, Erie Custom Exteriors response to us was that it was only due to the bad winter and nothing could be done. Erie Custom Exteriors also informed us when the weather improved, we would be first on the list to receive a full inspection by them to address the concerns, however they never contacted us to attempt to resolve these concerns. The pole barn built by Erie Custom Exteriors does have vented soffit as needed because my plan is to eventually heat the pole barn, so I do not understand why they did not put vented soffit on the house as needed. The building inspector also looked at the back of the house where we experienced leaking into our living room and kitchen and informed us that ice and water shield was not installed on the part of the roof where shingles were removed and replaced as part of the removal of our old covered porch and installation of our new deck and installation of new gutters. The building inspector informed us that it should have been customary to install ice and water shield on the area where they had to remove and replace shingles. The building inspector also reported that due to the absence of ice and water shield, that caused the leaks in our home that resulted in an insurance claim (approximately $4250 rough estimate from the insurance - including our $1000 deductible) needing to be filed to repair the interior damage to our home. As a result of the ice build up, our gutters are bent and the ice also caused damage to our new deck railing. I will be speaking with our insurance company to follow-up on the information I received from the building inspector. We also experienced leaking on our front porch that was installed by Erie Custom Exteriors and it is doubtful that ice and water shield was installed in this area as well. I am currently in contact with a roofer to examine if the ice and water shield was installed in this area. The concern is that the leaking will cause extended damage to the front porch and will result in rotting.  Again, my concern is that Erie Custom Exteriors told myself and my wife that they will stand behind their work and currently we have not received any positive response to concerns reported to Erie Custom Exteriors. Also, the seams on the 1 inch insulation boards were not taped as is customary by contractors so that no air can go between the boards. Erie Custom Exteriors never taped those seams which has resulted in continued air leaking into our home. Capping completed on the windows is too short and needs recapped.  In response to the issue with Erie Custom Exteriors being paid before the job was completed, the date written on the final payment to Erie Custom Exteriors was August 29, 2014. However the garage door on our pole barn was not completed until October, 2014 which proves that they were paid before the job was fully completed. In addition there are still a few outstanding items on the list we provided to Erie Custom Exteriors in mid-August, 2014. I have included a copy of the list previously provided to Erie Custom Exteriors and have noted which items were completed and which items currently are still outstanding. A final walk around was never completed with myself, my wife and Erie Custom Exteriors as they informed us would be done as part of the final payment being provided. I was told repeatedly to just give the final check to one of the workers and they would give it to the owners of Erie Custom Exteriors. which I did. We also never received any building plans of the work that was completed as we were promised when we contracted with Erie Custom Exteriors to complete the job. My concern is that if building plans and a final walk around would have been completed as planned, some of the issues may have been resolved.

To Whom It May Concern: This letter is in response to the complaints we received in regards to reference # Before addressing these accusations, we at Erie Custom Exteriors, would like to acknowledge the respect we have for the Revdex.com's process. It is vital that both the homeowner and...

contractor have the opportunity to express their grievances. We do not take our A+ rating over 20 years with the Revdex.com lightly. The following is our response to statements made; Complaint: Timeline issues....leak issues.... Response: First, the job could have been easily completed in three months. The hold ups were the following...Homeowner did not hold an occupancy permit from the last time they had problems with the previous contractor. This took time and held up the closing with the bank and getting a new building permit. Secondly, the homeowner unfortunately had medical issues with their newborn and were forced to be out of town in the hospital for quite some time. This was addressed and timelines were agreed upon as everyone realized Erie Custom Exteriors could not just wait and not work. Erie Custom Exteriors was able to shuffle things and actually got there quicker than we hoped. Thirdly, the weather!!! It is well documented that we have experienced one of the top 1% of worst winters ever. It was officially the coldest February on record. Because of the weather we could not finish the roof entirely and still have not had a break in record cold temperatures. This caused the horrendous ice build up to have small leaks. This is not abnormal in the building process as we have portrayed, things dry. This is where the issues have arisen. No one wants leaks and we understand it is frustrating. Other work can still continue. The constant shut down of work by the homeowner, and ripping out of completed work to help lessen the leak and water obsession, is what began to prolong this project. Countless messages and calls to stop us, or tell us to not come "that day" is the issue. We did not duck the issue, seems like we were out there every Sunday on our day off to re-address the issue. Constant weekend calls that we were able to seemingly suffice, would in turn, resurface days later and repeat. Fourthly, messages and requests for choices for materials, which we needed to continue would go continually unanswered for sometimes a week at a time. Regardless of our four main complaints on holding up the job, we all still found a common ground to continue and each and every timeline was agreed upon with all parties. It seems very convenient that we are now not welcome to continue when almost all materials are paid for and mostly labor is just left, all while $30,000.00 is left on the table. This is now a huge issue. All messages, etc. are documented. Complaint: Belligerent and verbal arguments Response: The only Belligerent going-on were from one spouse, as stated before. Never in twenty years have all of our workers been treated in this manner. This was not the case with both spouses to be clear. Constant daily rude behavior and rude statements. Each worker experienced this and has many specific instances to share. NO ONE ever swore back...ever! Once again, this was from only one spouse. 100% the worst work environment ever in twenty years. Complaint: Heat Response: Erie Custom Exteriors has no idea what the heat being disabled is whatsoever, really? no clue. Why would we do that? The contract states a $900.00 allowance for a mini split or the like. We provided much more than that. Our heat issue is that every day we would arrive to a freezing cold project, even though we left the heater on in the addition each night to help the mud drying process, etc. We have no clue why this kept being turned off. With the extremely cold weather and them not running their wood stove the primary heat source. It made it difficult to heat their house as well as the project area. We addressed the issues but it continued. We were forced to bring high output space heaters to warm up project area, which in turn increased our ice problem. We addressed this with them even offering to keep wood stove running. Complaint: Quality of work Response: Never once was there a quality issue. We should all agree on this as there is no complaints on record. The issue of 'service' is what is mentioned in the letter. The constant evening, weekend (Sunday) meetings to revisit the water issue portrays our commitment to service. Keep in mind that these meetings were held mostly with one spouse because the other would 'lose his temper” if he joined us. We seemed to come to an understanding after each get together. "Oh well, it's not our fault!!!" who said this? Nice try! This is unbelievable! The letter states that the homeowner has a sick child and portrays that we do not care and are just blowing things off. No, in fact we were willing to risk lives and attempt to chip the ice just last week and were rudely told to leave. Our tools are being held against our will at this point and we cannot work without tools -10 days!!! This is being documented. Once again, the issue comes full circle a repeated disregard for Erie Custom Exteriors to make a living. Complaint: Getting out of services Response: Homeowner has a documented message that Erie Custom Exteriors wouldn't be charging them any extra for flooring in their existing home and extra money on their heat system. We have continued to make concession to keep the peace and keep the job moving. None of this was in the contract and we definitely agreed to help them with the flooring in existing house if they were careful with their choice in project area, which they definitely tried to do. The abundance of waste of materials in their linoleum choices and significant labor on wood-like flooring made this difficult but we agreed, so no issue. That being said, we reiterate that the homeowner, not Erie Custom Exteriors, stopped or halted the job on at least five different occasions. Never once was there an issues with the quality of work. This occurred due to a failure to believe in us ,we were highly recommended and "checked upon" but the mentality that the homeowner was the general contractor and we were just a sub is the major issue. This rarely works. In 20 years of business we have never been talked down to, disrespected, cussed out or most importantly, been ordered to stop working once, let alone five times. These issue stem from the weather, specifically ice and water brought on by homeowner not trusting anything the contractor would say. We continually were told to stop working and destroy finished work to prove that no damage had been caused by limited amounts of water. Each time we showed the homeowner there was nothing, to their frustration. All of this, apparently at our expense. Every email, text message and voice mail has been documented. We will not just sweep under the rug the fact that the homeowner waited until almost every material and multiple weeks of labor were provided to stop work when everything was going fine. There had had been no issues except the ice back up which we went out to remove when they told us to leave. The real issue on the job has been the extended extreme cold and the three to four feet of snow. In twenty five years in the construction trade I have never seen so many issues of ice damn on roofs. We acknowledge the fact that the last contractor was removed from the job in a similar manner. We also acknowledge that we have successfully completed over 25 jobs that were financed through Marquette Savings Bank. We would like to thank the Revdex.com for their time in this matter and will gladly communicate on any level as this matter proceeds.   Thank you,

Review: My wife and I hired Erie Custom Exteriors to build an addition to our home and to perform renovations in our existing home. We were originally told that the project would take three months to complete once we broke ground. Construction began around the beginning of September 2014 and as of February 26 2015 the project is still only 2/3 of the way completed. During this time my wife and I have had a child, born in July of 2014 who had medical issues. We spent a month at a childrens hospital in Cleveland, OH and my infant son still has unresolved medical issues. During our time in Clevelend, Erie Custom Exteriors had full access to our home to continue work, and had contact with my wife and I should the need arise. We returned from the hospital in November of 2014 to discover that not much had been done, even though Erie Custom Exteriors demanded payment while we were away. In the proceeding months several other issues came about. Erie custom exteriors began construction of the roof to the addition and still has not completed it. It took to months to get the metal roofing installed. In December it was discovered by my wife and I that because they had not finished the roof there was water leaking into the addition and our existing home. This would not normally be an issue, except that they had drywalled the addition and the drywall was saturated. We also discovered mold in various places due to the constant water. We did not know at the time that they had not sealed the addition, and that there were holes in our existing home allowing water to enter. When we brought this up to the owners of Erie Custom Exteriors they became beligerent, and refused to fix the issue. They told us in January that they could not finish the roofing until the weather warmed up, but that they were going to continue with the addition. Water still is coming into our home, the roof is not finished, we have had several verbal arguments with the general contractor, and now they have disabled some of our heating systems. The temperatures have been down to -20 degrees in the month of February, and our house is extremely frigid. Every room in the house and addition, with the exception of a kitchen and bathroom, are completely destroyed. The quality of the work they have done has declined since December of 2014, when we pointed out the wet drywall. Now they are trying to get out of providing services agreed to when we initially began this project. We have no siding, limited living space, frigid temperatures, the roof is not finished, and water is still running down the walls between the addition and existing house, water which is currently ice on the interior walls of all bedrooms. When we brought up the heating issues and that the house is losing heat rapidly, we were told "Oh,well. It is not our fault." I have a sick child who should not be exposed to this. The bank will not let us fire them, and they expect another $ 30,000. Any time we try to resolve the issue, the owners of Erie Custom Exteriors either blow us off or ignore the problem all together. My wife and I are very frustrated and we do not want to continue with Erie Custom Exteriors. We do not believe that the $80,00 that we have paid them has been a good investment.Desired Settlement: We would like Erie Custom Exteriors to stop all work on our house. We would like them to give us all materials that we have paid for, and all permits related to the construction of this addition. We would like reimbursement for any moneys that have not been spent, as well as what it would cost to fix the issues they created. After that we will hire someone to fix the issues.

Review: In July, 2014 Erie Custom Exteriors was hired for a job at our home that involved building a pole barn, building front and rear deck, replacing/installing windows, installing sliding glass door and residing our home. The contract also involved the company removing old siding, replacing boards as needed and wrapping the home before being sided. The contractors did not remove all layers of the siding. Only the aluminum siding was removed, however the clapboard siding was not removed (which likely contained lead based paint) and the house was not re-sheeted as we were told it would be. The house was not wrapped before being sided as we agreed on. They did not tape seams of insulation board. Facia boards were not replaced when it was missing or rotted in sections, they just covered over it. Aluminum facia clapping around front windows needs examined and facia on new front porch on corner is crooked. A section of aluminum siding on pole barn is sliding off. Trim around over head door of pole barn was not properly installed. In addition, the owner ([redacted]) and the work crew did not have a copy of the contract (prepared by owner, [redacted]) on site while completing the job and repeatedly told us they did not have the contract and did not know the parts questioned were included in the job. When the job was discussed and contracted for, myself, wife and [redacted] (owner) were the only ones included and [redacted] (owner and on site supervisor) was not included. When discussing the job, [redacted] promised we would be happy with the job and he said he would make sure ev[redacted]thing was done before job was done, he said the initial contract was only to lock in the job and price. In addition, we were not supposed to pay them before job was completed and a final walk through was done with myself, wife and owners, however [redacted] demanded final payment for the job before it was completed and repeatedly pressured me to make final payment before job was completed.Desired Settlement: I am not sure how this can be resolved, but would like the job done properly or refunded to hire another contractor to complete the job as we were told it would be done.
