Steer clear of these insidious crooks! What a scam operation they have going.

After our daughter's car was involved in a Hadley accident, apparently, the police called this scheister outfit to tow the car (hmmm, if I didn't know better - I'd think they were in kahoots!!!!), despite us having AAA. Because it was Christmas Eve, we couldn't do anything until Dec 26, on which day I was told that no, I couldn't get the car on Sat Dec 27.

Turns out I could, in fact, have got it on that day.

Result? They fleeced even more $$$ (at $35/day) out of me (total $285). The "people" that were behind the counter were unhelpful, uncaring and a sorry, pathetic lot. Oh, of course, they only take "cash" which doesn't surprise me - trailer trash like them only ever deal in cash.

I truly hope this business goes under. Fast

Exhorbitant towing and storing charge after a motorcycle accident. Refused to let me use credit card, wanted cash only, wouldn't let me drive back.Had motorcycle accident Sunday evening X-XX-XX Umass campus. Had concussion, taken to Baystate. Was hospitalized a few days. There was no message who took bike. Had to call police, found Ernie's took it away. Called and discovered they'd already charged $450 for taking without my consent, going $65 a day. I was in no condition to do it, but I took bus there to pay charge and drive it away. They refused to take my CC# and wanted CASH ONLY! They said I could NOT drive it away. They told me they would only deal with Progressive Insurance, not me. I was furious and they called the police to take me off property. They are now charging $800 a week later, and not to my home, to Valley Motorsorts. They would not allow insurance agent on their property. In the past, this kind of towing would cost around $150 - this is a grossly inflated charge, they are taking advantage of insurance to cover it, and since they want cash only, this seems illegal to me. They are probably not reporting this to taxes. I did research and there are other incidents like this, they tow a vehicle and charge a fortune to get it back. I was not even informed they towed it. Something is not right here!Desired SettlementI will only pay $150 and want to drive it out of there.Business Response Contact Name and Title: [redacted]Contact Phone: XXX-XXX-XXXXContact Email: [redacted]@erniestowing.netOctober 29, 2013Revdex.comRE: Claim # XXXXXX / Mr. [redacted]To whom it may concern,I am replying in reference to claim number XXXXXX to which Ernie's Towing received on October 23, 2013. The consumer, Mr. [redacted] states in his complaint that he had experienced exorbitant towing charges after being involved in a motor vehicle accident on September 29, 2013. He also made accusations that Ernie's Towing practices policies outside of the law, as well as not reporting income of impounds to "taxes". Ernie's Towing takes a lot of pride in the professional way we conduct our business and I will now address every one of Mr. [redacted]'s concerns. After Mr. [redacted]'s accident on September 29, 2013 the Amherst Police Department called our company to tow his motorcycle. I would like to clarify that this is a non consensual tow. There is no authorization required from the owner for situations such as these. We are not given any information as to the whereabouts, condition, and/or contact information of an owner that is not present on scene when we are contacted by police departments. The Department of Public Utilities of Massachusetts CMR 270.00 set rate for a non consensual tow is a flat fee of $90.00 for the tow, five free miles of round trip travel, and a fuel surcharge that varies monthly. Mr. [redacted]'s tow reflects those rates, as he was charged a $90.00 towing fee as well as $5.67 for a fuel surcharge. He was then charged an indoor storage rate of $65.00 per 24 hours until the vehicle was released. We store all motorcycles indoors at our facilities due to liability and possible damages that could occur from outdoor elements. Mr. [redacted]'s vehicle was released after ten days of storage, giving his bill a total of $745.67.Ernie's Towing has followed all standard operating policies and procedures in regards to Mr. [redacted]'s non consensual tow on the 29th of September, 2013. Company policy for any and all police impounds is to be paid in cash only. The reason for this is for the simple fact that once it is done, it cannot be reversed. With credit cards or checks the owner is able to contest, and even deny any and all charges for a non consensual tow. We do not allow any vehicle involved in an accident to drive off of our lot without being properly inspected. We are not certified mechanics and cannot determine whether a vehicle is safe to be driven or not. As far as the consumer's testimonial in regards to our office staff not allowing his insurance agent on the property, this is purely false. In reference to Mr. [redacted]'s statements about our company only willing to deal with his insurance agent, it is my understanding that there may have been some confusion. As you can see in the original complaint, we had been dealing directly with Mr. [redacted] from the minute he contacted us on the fourth day of storage. Massachusetts General Law Chapter 266, Section 29 states that garages are required to give notice to the last registered owner on the fifth day of storage. The owner made contact with Ernie's Towing on the fourth day relieving us of that task.In conclusion, the accusations and the complaints insinuated by Mr. [redacted] are unreasonable to say the least. The consumer's insurance company has already paid the bill without argument. At one point we did have to call the Amherst Police Department to have Mr. [redacted] removed from our property after he had become violent with one of our employees. Ernie's Towing has not been unfair or unlawful with Mr. [redacted] in any way, and we would not be in business if any of the accusation in this complaint were accurate. The desired resolution of the owner paying $150.00 and driving the vehicle off of our lot is not possible or rational be. We are very sorry for any confusion or misunderstanding that there may have been, but the only thing that is "not right here" is the complaint we received.Sincerely,[redacted]Ernie's Towing[redacted], Ma XXXXXFinal Consumer Response I would not have cared if it were stored outside and was not informed. I should had been informed immediately! I was not allowed to get my vehicle when I came to get it and I was in severe pain from the burn wounds on my legs!. I was so outraged I attempted suicide and I had to go to a psychiatric facility. 65$ for a tiny motorcycle is outrageous. I want $30 x 10 days back! $300.
