Essex Replacement Door and Window Reviews (2)

Review: My wife and I ordered an entryway door from Essex Replacement Door & Window on August 1, 2013. We were promised delivery by September 15, 2013, or earlier. Speed was important because we are preparing to sell our house. The door was not installed until November 1, 2013 -- after I called and emailed [redacted] at the company a number of times. Then, when the door was installed, the installers damaged the entryway floor -- which had just been sanded and polished on October 7-8, 2013, as part of a $1,600-plus job on our first floor. (If the door had been delivered when promised, the sanding and polishing would have occurred after the door installation.) The two installers did not mention the damage they caused to the floor. I noticed it after they left, and contacted Mr. [redacted] on November 1. No response from him.Desired Settlement: The damage to the floor is noticeable but not huge. We want a $200 refund of the $1,900 the company charged.

[A default letter is provided here which indicates your acceptance of the business's response. If you wish, you may update it before sending it.]

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

On Nov. 10, I filed a complaint (ID# ) against Essex Replacement Door & Window of Scotch Plains.

Today, I received a check from that company for the amount I requested in the complaint (to compensate for floor damage during installation). Essex also included a gracious note with the mailing.

Because of the company's response, I'd like to request that its excellent Revdex.com rating be restored.

Thank you, and please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Regards,

Review: Puchased steel door with insulation

Just found out that doors sold actually has wood frame not steel. Door has wood that has dry rotted in 7 years, salesman said lifetime warranty! This is consumer fraud.Desired Settlement: Refund purchase price or I shall hire attorney and seek relief under consumer fraud act.

This letter is in response to the complaint filed by [redacted] (complaint #[redacted]). We received a written complaint from [redacted] dated November 14, 2013. This complain was regarding the fact that the doors installed were constructed with wood frames and dry rot has occurred. Our manufacturer's representative [redacted]) and I made an on-site inspection of the two (2) sets of doors in question. We determined that [redacted] house has no overhang above the doors thereby making them more susceptible to ice, snow and water seepage. Also, it was very obvious that the area has sustained flood damage which probably caused deterioration of one (1) door. [redacted] contacted another company to perform the repairs needed at his own expense without giving us the opportunity to examine and evaluate the damage. Despite numerous requests, [redacted] was not able to produce a paid receipt for the repair. At the time of purchase, [redacted] was shown a cross-section in addition to a complete engineering schematic of the doors he purchased. Also, four (4) copies of his warrantee were included in each box in which the doors were shipped. Despite the fact seven (7) years has elapsed since the doors were installed by [redacted] carpenter, Essex Replacement Door and Window and [redacted] offered to replace and install the doors at no charge to [redacted]. This would a value in excess of $3,000.00. [redacted] did not respond to our generous offer. In conclusion, [redacted] was informed of the construction of the doors, given a detailed engineering schematic of the products and supplied with four (4) separate warrantee agreements at the time of purchase. In our professional opinion, as evidenced by stain-markings on the frames of the doors there was flooding/water damage incurred thereby making dry rot impossible. We have made every effort to rectify [redacted] complaint only to be threatened by legal action. At the timer of this letter our offer to replace and install the doors which includes the transferring the glass and hardware still stands.

Response:

Essex door and window custom engineered the door and now admit they sold me the wrong door for the application.

They have offered no remedy and I am getting all the required items for legal action.

I attempted to workout a settlement and Essex refused.

I am rejecting this response because:

Response:

This is in response to the complaint received from [redacted] (complaint number: [redacted]). We did indeed offer [redacted] a remedy to his complaint in the form of a complete door replacement at no charge which is valued of over $3,00.00. At the time of sale, [redacted] was explained the construction of the product in the form of a cut-away sample in addition to an engineering diagram in the sales brochure he received. Essex Replacement Door and Window Co. Inc. did not construct this product, it was fabricated by our manufacturer, [redacted] This generous offer was made to [redacted] eight (8) years after sale despite the fact that he used his own carpenters for installation. At the advise of my attorney, I must terminate the rhetoric regarding this matter.
