Initial Business Response / [redacted] (1000, 9, 2016/08/29) */ [redacted] To whom it may concern, I, [redacted] completed an eavestrough/gutter job for [redacted] I cleaned and put in screens on the top and bottom of the back side of his house and replaced the top and bottom on the front side of his house on the driveway side [redacted] had a problem with the bottom of the gutters on the front driveway side of his houseHe stated that the water was running out of the middle of the gutter when it rainedI explained to him that when whoever installed the gutter previously, they ran it slipping down to the middle of the gutter and then began to run back up toward the downspout, in my opinion, in fear that they were running out of a fasciaThat is why it never works properlyI installed the new gutter starting at the bottom of his drip cap and ran it line level to run to his existing downspoutThe gutter was run slightly out of level which we refer to as line level run, so that the water would run out and no standing water would stay in the gutterThe proper way to install [redacted] felt that it should have been less of a downward slopeI assured him that if there was less of a downward slope, the gutters would not work properlyHe wanted me to take them off and put them on with less of a downward slope, basically the way they were installed before, which was not properly doneI told him that I would not do that as it would be wrong and that the way I did the work, it was done properly and I still stand by that I did not get a chance to take pictures of my work showing that the level of gutter I did was properly done [redacted] hired another company, [redacted] and in a letter that he wrote to the Revdex.com, [redacted] said that [redacted] told him that the gutters would not work properlyI would like to take a minute to address that statementIf the gutters that I put on were set at line level run like I say they were, then the gutter would have worked perfectlyIf the gutters were leaning down too much as he states, then the gutters would have drained faster and actually still work efficientlyI don't know what [redacted] told ***, but if they said it wouldn't work the way I had installed the gutter, then that isn't correct, and I would welcome to hear their argument against my work I went back to ***'s and took pictures of the eavestrough that [redacted] installed for ***, and they put the gutters hard up inside under his drip capInstalled in that manner, the ice build up from the winter could and probably will back up into his roof line, and over the years, may rot out his roof line and probably the fascia board behind the guttersI had just replaced a job last year that someone else had done where that was exactly the caseThe gutters and the metal all look fine, but the wood behind was all rotted away, and by the time the homeowner noticed the problem, the warranty was long expiredThe proper way to install eavestrough is to keep it down from the drip cap of the roof so that when ice builds up, it will drop over the front of the gutter, and not back up into the roof lineAs far as the gutter that [redacted] has put on, I have pictures of the gutter level showing where it's now running away from the downspout where the gutters run up under the drip edge of the roofThe run on the gutters now starts at level, and in a few places, slopes uphill, so that water will collect in the gutterThe pictures showing that both ***'s and his neighbor's next door are running in the wrong direction I stand by my workI have years of experience in the business and have had no complaints thus farAs far as the formula that [redacted] has suggested in his letter, of quarter inch to feet of gutter, is completely not the case in my experienceWhen you use a level line to install gutters, you ensure that gravity is the force or mathematical principal that ensures a proper installation, especially older homes which have a tendency to settle over the years, and what was once a level ground, may not be so todayThe mathematical principle of one quarter inch in feet may work out in some cases, but not alwaysAgain, I put the eavestrough on with a level line, insuring that it would run rather than collect water in the gutterThe gutter installed by [redacted] does look level with the house; however, the gutter is sloping away from the downpipe and it will not work properly like the one that I had installed and which [redacted] removedI am NOT in the business of doing my job wrong or I wouldn't be in business longA gutter that does not work properly could in fact cause more problems than having no gutter at allI did the best job possible for ***, and I'm quite confident in my abilityI am sorry that he feels the way he does; It is true that [redacted] replaced eaves trough/gutter on the driveway side and installed screens on the top and bottom of the back side of the house I also agree the communication was an issue, as when [redacted] first came to see what needed to be done and to provide me with a price I mentioned the gutters on the driveway side were damaged by falling trees, When I mean damaged it was dented causing the water to flow improper I have had several people review his work and all agreed that the slope was too steep The slope of the gutter that [redacted] installed are usually on much older homes that are not level My home is only years old and well maintained [redacted] In closing I do not wish to have any contact with [redacted] or his company
