Evergreen Turf, Inc. Reviews (2)

Review: We had placed an order of over 1,000 square feet of sod to be delivered Oct. 18th. Anyone in the landscape industry knows that during the end of Sept/Beginning of Oct. all grass is overseeded so you can have a winter lawn and not a brown one. Also, to be known that you cannot overseed brand new sod as you cannot cut it for 2 weeks down to the base in which you need to overseed. This company was to deliver a winter grass and instead shipped me their remaining stock of summer grass, knowing that in just a week the grass would go brown and dormant for the next 4-5 months and that I would not be able to overseed. They said there were no notes to ship winter grass and that they weren't shipping winter grass for another 2 days after my order anyway so I could not have gotten it on the 18th anyway. Had the person who took my order told us this we would have absolutely waited just 2 more days to get our winter sod...The company would not correct this in any way and instead pointed the finger at my landscaper and said he could try to seed it, it would not look great but I may have some winter grass come up. I spent a lot of time and money in remodeling our back yard and am extremely upset that I will be looking at brown grass for the next 4-5 months because they shipped a bad product that cannot survive right now. No education or willing to correct this issue. Spoke to many customer service reps and [redacted] the manager, he refused to call me back after 3 phone calls so I called him, he said he would get back to me later. Never followed up so I finally called and asked how they can correct this...he put me on hold for 10 minutes to come back on the line and say 'I spoke to your landscaper and said he would try to overseed'. I'm sure they just wanted to sell as much of their summer stock they had but with no quality/care or concern for the product they are delivering or care to correct this issue.Desired Settlement: Either replace within a week with winter grass or refund my full payment.

Response:

The order in question was delivered on October 19th; we normally do not begin shipping our winter overseed product until November 1st. However, we began shipping this year on October 22nd. Up until that date we were still sending our summer product because were receiving orders for this product. It is not uncommon to receive orders for the summer grass only so you will not have to maintain during the winter. The product will green up in the spring when the weather warms back up.

In the 13 years I have managed this business, we have not shipped any winter product in September or before the middle of October. The availability of overseeded product is largely based on weather and growing conditions, rather than a calendar date.

Our staff will answer any questions regarding when products are available, the orders are taken with what the customer request. The order in question was placed by our customer, [redacted], not Mrs. [redacted]. The customer made no request for an overseeded product. If that had been the case, we would have informed the customer of the availability on the overseeded sod.

When receiving the complaint from the homeowner, not the customer, we refer them to their contractor. In this case [redacted].

We in turn offered to have the landscaper overseed the lawn with our ryegrass seed which would have grown in and been green by now. The lawn she received would have stayed green until we had our first freeze which has yet to happen. The rye grass is planted to mask the Bermuda grass for the winter.

She refused and said she did not want anyone back on her property even though I informed her I contacted the landscaper and he was more than happy to seed the yard at no expense to her.

If there were any compensation due I would have taken care of the landscaper for their time.

Replacing her lawn as she requested would have cost us about $1500.00 for a $350.00 order. Then, Mrs. [redacted] requested a full refund for a product that has already been installed and cannot be returned.

We feel we did everything possible to resolve this and her complaint should be with the landscaper.

We have excellent customer service and our staff and I are always willing to help with any situation our customers are faced with.

Our response to this was timely and fair. Our Revdex.com rating shows our commitment to our product and service.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank You,

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

This manager is incorrect. I personally placed the order and the person I was having install the product '[redacted]' simply gave them his company license number for a discount. At no time did I ask for Rye grass...it was assumed that it would be overseed since, as the company told me on Oct. 22nd, would not be able to be overseeded. I had paid for what I thought would be beautiful green grass and what I got was brown grass that would stay that way for months. Their resolution was to have the person I paid to install it come back out, spend an entire day trying to use a weed wacker to get it down to the roots...this is not recommended by Evergreen as sod should not be mowed or weed wacked for at least 2 weeks and then only 1/3 of the height should be removed! (per the company themselves) So their resolution of having us 'Kill' the grass we just paid for and pay another $350 for labor, seed and mulch since the weather was too cold at that point...was just insane. They are going against all their advice and would not come out themselves to seed it or replace it...only wanted someone else to handle their error. I manage homes for a living and all landscapers I work with would never think they would sell summer grass as late as Oct. 18th and if they do, they should absolutely mention to the customer at the time of purchase since that would never be the expectation. This company in no way has corrected this.

Response:

I have attempted to contact the customer to resolve this matter.

We do not feel responsible for this but are willing to replace the grass at no charge to the customer.

Also we request that any and all negative comments regarding this are removed from any institutions where posted, and would like the customer to sign a release that there will be no warranty with the product or installation and Evergreen Turf have no responsibility moving forward.

Thanks,

At evergreen turf we have always found the perfect product for the perfect price and above all the seriousness required to fulfill our orders on time and quality, the manager on site and his team are always very courteous and accurate, as a landscaping company we highly recommend Evergreen Turf.
