Review: Ewing Designs has done numerous work in our neighborhood and came highly recommended by our next-door neighbor. On or about 4/1/15, we were given an estimate for re-doing our front landing/stoop from [redacted], the owner. It was about $1,725. He said they could do the job in early May. Early May and mid-May came and went. He said they could definitely do it by Memorial Day week. We texted and emailed him about the start date, never heard from him. June 1 came and went, and there was no communication from him at all. It wasn’t until mid-June that they finally came, and in those last several weeks we again sent emails, texts, and phone calls with no response.

The work was done in a sloppy manner. The cuts of the stone pavers all the way around against the walls of the siding were way off and looked bad, and there was a notch mis-cut on one paver. He personally did show up on the first day of the work and I asked him to look into a new architectural support post to replace the old wrought-iron support. I asked him how much something like that would cost and he said, “Not that much”. When he found one that he thought would look good, he emailed me a picture of it and I said ok. Again, I asked how much, he said, “I’ll let you know”.

For almost a month now we have been trying to get in touch with him regarding the unacceptable work, by email, text and phone calls. He rarely has gotten back to us, and when he did, it was spotty and we were not satisfied. In the meantime, we haven’t paid the bill. He didn't replace the concrete step into the house which he said he would but now claims he never said that.

We just got the invoice and were outraged. He wants to charge us and extra $200 for renting a bigger jackhammer which apparently was needed to blast out the existing concrete base. We think it’s not appropriate to pass on that extra charge to us. Additionally, he charged us $900 for the purchase and installation of the post, after first minimizing the price, then never following up with the actual price. His charge is about twice what we thought it would be.

The invoice we just received is for $2,900. The sloppy work has not been corrected.

He met with my wife yesterday to discuss these issues. He mis-represented who did one aspect of the work. He claimed we authorized a sub-contractor which is not true. He got defensive when my wife said she would ask me to verify his version of the facts, said she was calling him a liar. he also said he never had those conversations about the architectural post. He said he would repair the mis-cut pavers but denied doing other shoddy work that we are now stuck with.

Even if the project is re-done at no cost to us and the $200 charge is removed and the $900 charge is cut in half, this project has been a nightmare for us. He’s been very inattentive to us and this project. Maybe it’s too “small potatoes” for his booming business. No matter the reason, it’s very un-worthy of a member of the Revdex.com.

In summary, our issues are lack of communication, unacceptable work, misrepresentation of work, overcharging, and misrepresentation of conversations.Desired Settlement: Fix the job to our satisfaction and adjust the invoice as discussed above

Review: The company installed pavers. After installation, [redacted] came back on November 1, 2012, and we talked about a water problem due to a low spot in the walk. He said he would come back and repair it. He has never returned to correct the problem. Since then, the problem has gotten worse. Due to the problem, whenever it rains, the water puddles up against the foundation and is now coming into the crawl space in the basement. On July 1, 2013, and July 8, 2013, we have left word for him to call us. We have not heard from him.Desired Settlement: We would like to have this matter corrected.
