Excellent Quality Movers Reviews (2)

Review: Do not get service from these movers! They totally misguided me. I recently moved from a 2 bedroom apartment to a 3 bedroom house. The new house is only 2 blocks from the old one. When I got in touch with them, they said it's $79/hr and it would approximately take 3 hrs since my house is so close. I got quotations from other reputable companies where one of them gave me a flat rate of $300 (not hourly). So I thought I will be saving money if I go for hourly rate with [redacted]. They arrived half hour early then the scheduled time and made me sign some papers in a rush. When I wanted to read the paper, the guy said 'it's just normal rules, you dont need to read it and waste time'. I blindly trusted him because he was acting really nice. They loaded their truck with all our belongings. We asked them to follow us to the new house. We were surprised when they didnt show up. I kept calling their cell number and no one would answer. They finally arrived after 45 minutes and told us that they had to go for lunch. The total time they took was about 4 hours. When it was time to pay, I was really really shocked. The total bill was $589+$50 tip. They have charged me for 5.5 hours plus a parking ticket for $115.00. They added the time to get to my house, their lunch time, and to get back. I told them that I would accept the 5.5 hours but why do I've to pay for the ticket they got. Then, they showed me the paper I've signed earlier. I asked him why he stopped me from reading it when I wanted to read it and his answer was - 'well, it's your fault, you should have read'. Yes, I've learned my lesson and I will never trust unethical movers like you. They also broke my furnitures, my tiles in the living and dining room. My husbands expensive watches (worth at least 3k) are missing too. I'm not sure if they have stole it because I've cleaning people coming here too. But I suspect them more becuase they took quite a long time for their lunch. I've their receipt incase I've to show it to Revdex.com.Desired Settlement: They have to admit that what they did was unethical and that they are sorry and will not practice this kind of business with anyone in the future. I would also appreciate a refund of $115 for the parking ticket. The person who made me sign the contract knows very well that he misguided me and he didnt let me read it at all.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

[Excellent Quality Movers have already done enough damage to me and my family. I do not want to waste my time and get in touch with [redacted]. I've researched [redacted] and found that this is a company hired by the Excellent Quality Movers to act on behalf of them. I believe that they will not take care of my issue and will only act on behalf of the moving company which will waste more of my time. It will certainly not give me any positive result. I've found several reviews on [redacted] which proves my claims are true. Others like me have faced similar situation. I'm attaching the screenshots as per my conversation with [redacted]. I hope we can come to a resolution and also hope that this moving company will do their best to resolve this ASAP. I ask them not to harass me anymore. Thank you for your help.

[redacted] - Excellent Quality Movers

Review: Excellent Quality Movers is a company that I found on the internet. They had good reviews. I had inquired via email what their prices where. I explained it was one elevator building with on-site security to another. Both elevators would be padded. The company asked me for the contents of my apartment, and I explained it was a typical-sized one bedroom with a refrigerator, stove, couch, dresser, dining table, and the usual clothing, shoes, and books.

An [redacted] named “[redacted]” quoted me three men per hour for $85. They also gave me an estimate of $267 for a three-hour move.

On the day of the move, the movers were supposed to arrive before 1:30pm, on May *, Friday. The big items were ready to be moved, but boxes needed to be closed up with tape, and I was still packing glassware. They started the clock at 12:45, helping close boxes. At around 1:30, I needed help securing a dining table leg, but the [redacted] insisted I sign a waiver of liability for damage to all furniture. I signed.

At around 2:30, I noticed that most of the contents of the apartment has not yet been moved. The sofa, the bed, the stove, the fridge, were all untouched. There were bins of my things in the hallway. I looked out the window, could see the truck, but didn’t see any of the 3 men for 10-12 minutes. When I did see one of the guys out the window, he was chatting with the security guard.

When I commented that I felt “we were slowing down,” the [redacted] “[redacted],” [redacted], began to argue with me. He was fussing with the paperwork and had me write statements to do with “cents-per-pound,” and had me sign waiver of damage documents before the truck was even loaded. He was highly argumentative, wasting more time. When I refused to argue, he became more irate.

The truck was not loaded until 3:30. At 3:50, we finally got on the road [redacted]ing to my new apartment. I was not allowed to ride in the truck because of liability reasons and so I rode my bicycle. I had $300 on me. I stopped at the ATM in order to get more cash. I then had a total of $680 in cash with me.

While in the midst of moving stuff into my new apartment, the [redacted], asked me to give him all the cash for the move. No checks. He showed me the list of items I was being charged for, which included $107 worth of materials such as 6-8 cardboard boxes for $12-15 each. He also charged me for two certificates of liability insurance for each building management, which was required in order for the truck to pull up right to the building. I arranged for building security to monitor the move at each site. The grand total was an appalling $634.50! This was not including tip. I took out all of my cash in my wallet and gave him everything I had, apologizing for not being able to tip better, but I didn’t anticipate the price going from $267 to $634, more t[redacted] double the original estimate, and the move was slower t[redacted] my other past 1-bedroom moves, which took on average 3 hours, not 5. Fortunately I had extra cash to tip each man $20 each. [redacted] stopped the clock at 5:45, billing me for 5 hours.

While we continued to finish up the move, he told me in the elevator it was 5:50. Much of my belongings were still on the sidewalk. Some of what was on the already on the sidewalk were placed back on the truck. I was puzzled.

When I asked why my things were back on the truck, [redacted] told me that he needed to charge me more money, and if I didn't give it to him he would have to keep my things. I would have to retrieve it on my own time. When I requested that I was willing to move the remaining things into the building myself without their help, he refused to relinquish my personal belongings which were 3 boxes sitting on the truck along with my dining table. He demanded that I pay him more cash. When I told him I was completely out of cash, I asked if he was trying to steal my things. He argued with me and accused him of exploiting him, because he is paid only $8 an hour. He refused to let me on the truck or [redacted]d over my things. We argued for 10-12 minutes, with people watching.

[redacted] told the coworker to close the gate to the truck. I climbed onto the truck, attempting to get my boxes. The security guard witnessed the event. (My phone was upstairs), I told the guard to call the police. [redacted] told his co-worker to close the truck’s gate, with me inside. I said keep the table, I want my boxes of books.

The security guard did not call the police, and instead tried to placate the situation. [redacted] continued to hold up his arm, preventing me from taking my belongings. Finally, I grabbed my things and dropped them onto the street. [redacted] then gave an instruction in Russian to the other guy, who then threw the dining table that was sitting in the truck onto the street. The leg broke off. This was a vintage table. They drove off in a hurry. A neighbor took a picture of the broken dining table.

I moved my things into the building with the help of friendly neighbors. I find this moving company to be highly unscrupulous They appear to be a scam. It was a highly traumatizing experience, and I do think, from having moved with other movers many times before, that they slow down their work and inflate the prices with expensive boxes. I did get a list of prices a week before the move, but the day of, it was so busy, I didn’t get a price per box.

They charged me twice what I had been quoted as the cost of a 1-BR move. 5 hours for a small one bedroom apartment move is excessive. I did not have excessive things. Not more t[redacted] what is normal for a one bedroom apartment. Both buildings have elevators. There was no distance between the truck and the building service entrances. Still, they charged me for “commercial bins,” used huge cardboard boxes in which to transport my belongings.

It was a highly stressful 5 hours and I was physically exhausted afterward, because I myself became the 4th man (I am a woman) moving boxes , emptying commercial bins (which I was billed for), and moving furniture. I feel I was overcharged. I have receipts and photographs. They are a shady company that stated by email, no checks, have cash ready.

Also, why was I obligated to sign documents before everything was loaded or unloaded. I feel the slow-down tactics and attempted theft/extortion for more cash is part of how they operate. Please review this complaint. The security guard on site witnessed the incident, and is willing to give a written statement of what he saw. His [redacted] approves this action. Thank you.Desired Settlement: They should honor the price I was quoted, and pay for the repair of my vintage table.
