Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.I do not feel that they have met me in a fair position considering they have yet to provide me with an accepted resolution [To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, we would like to know your view on the matter.] Regards, [redacted]

I am responding to the above-referenced complaint filed by a student enrolled in theExcelsior College School of Nursing associate degree nursing [jrogramThe studentappealed a failing grade on the Clinical Performance in Nursing Examination (CRNE)and the Examination Appeals Subcommittee (EAS) granted a Repeat without Fee orPenalty (RWFP)This decision means the outcome of the exam is nullified and does notcount as one of the three opportunities to pass this curricular requirementNo fee isassigned to the repeat. The student failed the exam due to an unsuccessful second attempt in the NursingSkills Laboratory portion of the CPNE for using an incorrect needle size to administer anintramuscular injection into the vastus lateralis muscle of a small adult mannequinThestudent used a 5/8", 25-gauge needle to inject a medicationGenerally, this needle sizeis used when administering subcutaneous medicationThe standard for administeringan intramuscular injection is a 1-14" needleThe current recommendations by theCenter for Disease Control for needle length are based on patient weight and bodymass index (BMI)An adult patient who is thin, requires a needle length of 5/to oneinch; whereas an average patient requires a 1-inch needle, and those over kgrequire a inch needleDuring the orientation for the CPNE, Students are informedthe mannequin is a small adult, not a thin oneThe clinical faculty use scripted languageto describe the laboratory so all exams are consistently administered across ail testsites. The student submitted a reference that is not a faculty recommended text but had beenin prior yearsThe authors of the former textbook based their recommendation on anarticle published in the journal Pediatrics by Grosswasser et al.](1997) titled:delivery in infants andNeedlelength and injection technique for efficient intramuscular vaccinechildren evaluated through an ultasonographic determination pf subcutaneous andmuscle layer thickness, but do not clarify within the text that the recommendation isspecific to the pediatric populationThe EAS rendered a generous decision in grantinga repeat exam assuming the student unintentionally used resources that could havebeen more carefully read.In her complaint, the student asserts being right while the clinical faculty was wrong anddesires the grade should be converted to a PassThe student was informed this wasnot appropriate since the passing conditions of the exam were not metThe CRNEStudy Guide describes a Reverse to Pass can be rendered when the studentsuccessfully completes the requirements for passing the exam: skills labs and 3Patient Care Scenarios (PCS)The student completed of PCSsThis is anincomplete examination and cannot be scored as a PassAn assertion was also made itwould take a year to get another test dateStudents who are granted a RWFP areprovided with an expedited scheduled testing time. The committee and faculty position affirm the use of the longer needle for adultinjections into the vastus lateralis muscleBased on standards of practice, the clinicalfaculty made the correct decisionIn fact, the EAS determined there was no scoringerror but still granted a RWFP acknowledging perhaps the student lacked thesophistication -to reconsider information discrepancies or comprehend the improperapplication of original works into a secondary source of information.I have consulted with the College Ombuds Office and have determined it is appropriateto waive the $graduation fee upon completion of all program requirementsIf Ican be of assistance for further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact me.Sincerely,Mary PDean, School of Nursing

Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below I did pay $350+ dollars in travel expenses to use workshops to aide in my study for CPNEWhat they fail to discuss is that, this is a PASS or FAIL clincal weekendThere is in no way a SCORE that is presented to studentsAs far as the 60% pass rate for a clinical, that is a POOR example and way to represent a program as far as I'm concernedThe school does not disclose enough information on the clinical weekend prior to being eligible to take this clinicalNo other school in the United States has students completing a pass or fail clinical based on "documentation" which does not follow or comply with the outlined study guidesI do not agree that a student should have to pay over $4,times including travel expenses to complete less that a two day clinical course in which the instructors are not held accountable for their subjectivityIf a student takes this CPNE times total, they are paying over $12,on top of the costs for coursesThis is an absolute RIPOFF as far as im concernedThis also does not include the annual student fee of almost $500, and if you graduate you again have to pay another $The wait time is 8-months for CPNE regardless of what the school is sayingWith this wait time, I have already transferred to [redacted] College in which I am able to finish my program in less than months with same degree and with a school that holds their standards with integrity I am willing to take further means necessary by contacting the Attorney General's office if neededIt says something when the state of California is no longer accepting students from this college and there is already a class action lawsuit filed against this schoolI will move on with my time if they are able to refund me even the cost of the CPNE based on the awful experience that the three other students total that were with me that weekendFour students came and four students went home with a fail for things no other nurse would fail a student forPlease let me know what I can do to further assist with this matterThank you Regards, [redacted]

I am writing in response to a complaint received from ID ***, a prior student at Excelsior College. Our records indicate that this student enrolled in Excelsior College on September 10, in the associate of science in nursing degree and was withdrawn from Excelsior College on
October 24, for failure to pay the Student Service Annual Fee. On October 5, the student registered for three Excelsior College courses, INL 102, BIO and PSY utilizing a financial aid voucher to pay for these coursesHe also received a $advance of his financial aid award in the form of a book voucher. All three courses began on October 21, On November 10, The student was administratively withdrawn from BIO due to three consecutive weeks of nonparticipationOn November 18, he was also administratively withdrawn from PSY due to three consecutive weeks of nonparticipationThe student successfully completed the INL course in December of 2013. As the student was administratively withdrawn from two courses his financial aid award was cancelled leaving him with a balance due of $This balance derives from the following: $book voucher, $for INL 102, $for BIO and $for PSY 235. On November 13, the student appealed to be allowed back into the BIO courseHis request was denied as he would not have the time left to successfully complete the courseIt was recommended at that time that he may wish to appeal for a Military November 17, for both BIO and PSY He was denied by the Ombudsperson because his deployment was for daysPer the Excelsior College deployment policy a student must be deployed for at least consecutive days considered for an MW gradeThe Ombudsperson did give the student the option to submit a letter from his Commanding officer stating that he did not have access to a computer for the days that he was deployedHe also appealed to the Provost in March of 2014, but was denied in a letter dated April 1, because no additional information was submitted from his Commanding OfficerThe option to provide additional information was also given by the Provost. The student wrote to Excelsior College on March 24, regarding his a balance due. The military deployment policy was revised in and now states that a student can be assigned an MW grade if they have been deployed or in military training for or more consecutive daysBased on this change it was decided on March 30, to change the course grades for BIO and PSY to MW grades. Please note that an MW grade does make the student eligible for an exception to the course refund policyAssigning an MW grade allows the student to appeal to the military for a waiver of their tuition assistance liabilityIf a student does not use military tuition assistance they are responsible for paying the tuition out of pocket unless the military I hope this information clarifies the situation regarding the tuition balance due of $$1983.52. Please feel free to contact me at ***@***.edu if I can be of further assistance

The Excelsior College associate degree nursing program is a competency based distance learning program. This program is designed to serve individuals with significant experience in clinically oriented health care disciplines. The College web site (www.excelsior.edu) and the School of
Nursing catalog (available via www.excelsior.edu) clearly describe the College and the School of Nursing as a distance education institutionTo satisfy the 36-credit nursing component requirement, students must pass eight (8) nursing theory examinations or courses, the Focused Clinical Competency Assessment (FCCA) and the Clinical Performance in Nursing Examination (CPNE).The student filing the complaint enrolled in the associate degree program on May 16, and successfully completed the nursing theory and FCCA program requirements. She submitted a CPNE application in January 2017. The CPNE is an eight-credit performance examination students must complete successfully to graduate from the Associate in Science nursing program The CPNE is not a clinical teaching experience- it is a performance examination. The cost of the CPNE is $or $per creditThe faculty have determined students should spend a minimum of three months preparing for the CPNE. Reducing the CPNE wait time is a priority for the SON faculty and Staff. We have hired fifty new faculty and added two new testing locations this year and have signed contracts for three more sites. We currently have active test sites, the same number we had two years ago, but with an increased demand for more clinical sites for more nursing programs nationwide, we are not able to test as many students per site as we have in prior yearsMs*** has requested to test at the University of Kentucky Hospital but we do not have a contract with this hospital and we do not employ clinical evaluators in the state of Kentucky. We are working with Ms*** to schedule her as soon as possible. She is on the list of students willing to be scheduled at short notice should a student cancel or additional testing opportunities are made available. The College is waiving the Student Services Annual Fee for students who are waiting for the CPNE
