Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2017/08/22) */
Attached is the original contract with our customer which clearly calls for the house to be power washed only-NOT scraped before applying the new finish paint.
I met with the customer in July after our painting foreman, [redacted], took samples &...

consulted with our paint supplier.
At the meeting with the homeowner, we discussed possible causes and offered to prime & re-paint any affected areas at no cost to him.
Since at no time was scraping of siding mentioned or included in our estimate or contract, the scraping of any affected siding was not included at no charge.
At the time of this meeting, the homeowner expressed this sounded fair. He also stated he would be traveling for about 2 months and would contact us when he returned to have us do the painting.
We felt we made a very fair proposal to solve this issue and at no time did the homeowner lead us to believe differently, especially at our July meeting.
The Homeowner complaint filed with the Revdex.com was a total surprise since he expressed satisfaction at the July meeting and has not contacted us since then.
We strive to satisfy all customers, so I do find it unusual that he did not contact me directly if at any time after our July meeting he felt our offer was unfair.
In hope of a satisfactory resolution of this complaint, I will at no additional charge provide 10 man hours of scraping time at no charge to the homeowner. Since he was never charged for any scraping, any additional scraping he requests will be at reduced rate of [redacted] per man hour as I originally offered.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2017/08/28) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The response is incomplete and evasive to me. It is true Steel City offered to prime and paint at no cost,ONLY AFTER I SCRAPED AND SANDED DOWN TO BARE WOOD. This current offer of scraping makes no mention of priming and painting.
I paid a large sum expecting a quality exterior paint job that would last. We are not even one year out and there are problems. The solution can be easy. Steel City should stand behind their work, honor their warranty and fixed the failing areas at no further cost to me.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2017/08/30) */
I am very disappointed that my offer to go beyond the scope of the original contract dated 08/22/16 to power wash and paint his house was not deemed as a fair resolution. That contract did not include any scraping of the original paint on the house, simply power wash to clean and painting over the existing paint.
As stated in my offer of 08/22/17, I will at no charge provide 10 man hours of scraping (Which I repeat again, was not included or charged for in the original contract). After the offered scraping is completed, we will prime and paint at no charge the scraped areas. Since Mr. [redacted] never asked for or was charged for scraping, I am not willing to provide scraping of the entire house for free.
In the construction business it is very common to have a customer request additional work that they feel necessary, which is handled by a Change Order. The Change Order works by a request by the customer, pricing by the contractor and final decision by homeowner if they would like the work done for that price.
Since the cost of scraping the entire house would have about the doubled the original cost, I am not willing to provide that at no additional cost.
In summary I am willing as an act of good faith toward Mr. [redacted], at no cost to him, scrape the areas which the original paint has failed and repaint those areas at no charge. I am not willing to scrape the entire house and repaint for no charge since he never requested a Change Order or was charged for any scraping on the project. As previously offered I would be willing to prime and one coat of finish paint any areas the customer scraped at his own expense, over and above the above listed areas at no cost to him.
