Exercise Nation Fitness Clubs Reviews (4)

Review: I joined [redacted] in January 2012 in response to a "No commitment...cancel with 31-day notice" agreement. In January 2013, per the cancellation policy outlined in my contract, I sent a letter to [redacted]) asking to cancel my membership. Five months later, no action has been taken by [redacted] or the new operator of the facility, Exercise Nation, and monthly recurring charges are still appearing on my credit card statement each month (additional charges which now total $114.95). I have now provided three, separate letters to [redacted]/Exercise Nation asking to resolve this issue to no avail.

As outlined on page 1 of my [redacted] membership enrollment receipt under “Your Membership Purchase Information,” I paid both first and last month membership fees at the time of enrollment in January 2013, so I do not understand why charges continue to be made to my account five full months after my request for cancellation. I also do not understand how [redacted] can establish an account for me (and start charging my credit card) the same day I sign up, but it take several months (and multiple letters) to cancel my membership and provide a refund of excess membership dues charges. The practice is inefficient at best, predatory at worst, and unfair and burdensome to the consumer.Desired Settlement: Confirmation that my membership is cancelled, an end to future charges from World Gym to my credit card, and recovery of membership dues collected since I requested cancellation of my membership in January 2013.

Review: Frustrated w/ manager's ([redacted], formerly World Gym now renamed Excercise Nation) business ethics. I was unhappy w/ the deteriorating conditions of the gym (reduction in hours, broken equipment, poor upkeep, and inconsistent policies) so I submitted a cancellation form to the gym on October 14, 2012. An annual $20 "ENHANCEMENT FEE" for the ensuing year was charged to me on October 15, 2012. I asked the mgr to remove this fee since I had provided a written cancellation on 10/14 and did not feel the fee was warranted. He refused. My credit card company removed the charge. He had 2 months to dispute my claim with my credit card company. He did not.

Now I am receiving calls from a third party billing company threatening to send my account to collections. I have asked both [redacted] and the billing company to show me where in my written contract it states I need to provide 30 days notice w/ regards to the enhancement fee. I inquired about prorating the fee. [redacted] ignored my request. I have additional evidence that World Gym did not honor its "enhancement fee" claim to "add new equipment and services for the members' benefit", but I don't want to be too lengthy here. Bottom line is this: I have tried my best to resolve this issue w/ [redacted], but have found him to be uncooperative, unapologetic, and elusive. I can provide more specific information and documentation if needed. I have also tried to resolve this w/ the third party billing company. Unlike [redacted] I believe they are treating me fairly and ethically; and simply doing their job. I would like this issue resolved; but I am not willing to pay for a service I did not receive, especially to someone who has provided inferior customer problem resolution and already received an "F" rating from the Revdex.com for his billing practices.

Thank you for taking the time to read this; and everything else your agency does to promote better businesses. It is much appreciated!Desired Settlement: Have the third party billing company ([redacted]) suspend any further action until an unbiased third party can determine the legitimacy of this $20 charge since I find it unlikely that [redacted] will do the right thing and remove the fee.

Review: I am filing a complaint about a billing issue. I was a member of the [redacted] gym location over a year ago, but have not attended the gym since then. I was under the impression that when the world gym location was bought out by Exercise Nation, my membership would have been terminated,or at least notified of my membership options. Currently, the gym is under the world gym banner. While the gym was Exercise nation, I was still billed as a world gym member on a credit card. Once the credit card was cancelled due to another reason, I received billing on 7/15/14 stating I owe $77.97. I spoke with a world gym employee, and they claimed that although exercise nation was a separate company, I still was a member because exercise nation bought the charter. Therefore, I would have to go to a gym under a different company, and essentially cancel my membership there. I am confused on how a gym can be bought out by another company, yet I still owe membership dues without any notice of my membership status being unchanged under two different franchises. The manager allowed me to pay $63.96, with the remaining money being waived.Desired Settlement: I would like my money back. The practices are extremely misleading and unethical.

Review: I was a paying member of World Gym for several months prior to my being stationed overseas in the United Kingdom. When I enrolled, it was completely online and very easy and convenient. During the moving process overseas I didn't cancel the membership, because I mistakenly thought that it could have been cancelled just as easily online and wasn't too concerned about it. When I contacted the gym to cancel the membership, I was informed that I could not cancel my membership over the phone. Their policy is that it be cancelled in person in the location or via certified mail and that I would be assesed fees until they received certified mail.

My problem is with this policy. I do not understand why something as simple as a membership to a gym cannot be cancelled online or over the phone. Especially when the person is a member of the armed forces, on orders, stationed overseas.Desired Settlement: Please change the policy and allow members to cancel online or over the phone. This rigid, inflexible policy serves no real purpose, and causes additional hardship to members who no longer live in the area. It also requres them to incur additional fees to send certified mail, that is more than likely discarded after the membership is cancelled. I would also like a letter from this location explaining the reason for this policy, and an explanation why no special circumstances can be extended to military members on orders. Especially military members who were also paying members of that gym for the better part of a year.
