To Whom it May Concern, You first presented [redacted] to us on 10/25/for an evaluationOn exam, moderate to severe periodontal disease was notedIn particular, his maxillary (upper) premolars were noted to likely need extractionBloodwork was recommended that day, to which you consented, and his bloodwork came back except for his previously noted chronic kidney diseaseAt this visit, you were given an estimate that I've attached to this complaintThe estimate includes pain medication, pre-operative bloodwork the day of, and fluids during anesthesiaWe would love every animal to have all of these things under anesthesia, but they are optional to keep costs low for those who can't afford itThe charge for "Dental Cat Scale & Polish" is to clean the remainder of [redacted] teeth, which he needed and was included on the estimateIn our practice view, it would be unethical to put [redacted] under anesthesia for a tooth extraction and not scale and polish the remainder of his teeth if he needed itAt this point in time, we feel like the services provided match the estimate, and can't refund for this reasonPlease contact us to discuss furtherWe are sorry for the miscommunication and how that may have made you feelWe have still not received a letter from you that you indicate you sent in this complaintA voicemail was left on the phone number 206-954-this morning regarding the matter Sincerely, DrAlex H [redacted]

Complaint: ***
I am rejecting this response because:In regards to whether or not I accept/reject the response, I'm going to lean towards "reject" due to the following: 1) I'm positive the nails were trimmed at this clinic, and having personally transported him to and from each clinic, I know fully that this occurred at this very clinic"I don't know if they were trimmed" is not a proper conclusion on behalf of the whole staffHe, individually, may not have clipped them himself however his lack of knowledge does not excuse the remaining staffIgnorance is anything but a proper response I was promised my pet to be well taken care ofHaving professional emergency pet care previous to his stay at the Valley Vet Clinic, I was informed that our cat had an urinary tract infection that needed to be treated with his prescribed antibioticsThey ha test results to back this upThe infection was already existent. Leaving our cat at the Valley Vet Clinic, I was assured that my cat would be receiving his medication as prescribedI entrusted my pet to these peopleThese people did not notify me when they were "unable" to fulfill this taskThat is inexcusableEven at his most difficult, I have always been successfulI would have showed up morning and night, had I been notified he was not receiving his prescribed medication - to give it to him myselfYet I was not informed in any way whatsoever, and my cat was going without his prescription without my knowledge or say-soI am the guardian and I have the right to this information, so that I could provide necessary treatment that they could not doHis personal statement of "many vets do NOT recommend antibiotics before a catheter is removed" is biased and unsupportedI ultimately determine the choice of how my pet needs to be treated based on 2nd opinions of higher quality doctors- not the decision of this one particular vet with utter lack of communication to his clients This is the only part in which I understand, after having done research - although caring for a person's animal should only be out of the safety of the animal, and not the "ease" for the doctors because they refuse to go out of their way do complete tasks that their customers pay forI paid for my cat to be cared for, and instead I paid too much money to have them take the "easier" option Again - I wasn't notified of their lack of treatment, and had very right to determine how to continue I was given a choice:A) to have him NOT receive his prescription for the remainder of his stayAntibiotics - which I deemed the right decision, after discussion with the emergency vet clinic Doctor, and being the owner of my catORB) to pick him up to care for myself I chose option B, considering the first option was not proper care that I was being charged for My cat did not hiss, growl, make noise or sudden movement of any kind upon pickupI returned home and immediately was able give him is antibioticsHe was drenched in urine Above all, this is irresponsible treatmentA clinic with doctors who promise treatment, with doctors who do not notify their clients of important information Decisions were made without my consentI was advised to drop off antibiotics, assured by the doctor on staff that my cat would be receiving them which resulted in me NOT being notifiedMy cat missed a least three treatmentsI did not get a say, or a voiceI had to pay more money than quoted just to get my cat back from the horrid service and treatment I demand a full refund for this terrible experience and awful treatment my cat received Thank you Sincerely,*** ***

In response to the complaints:1) I am not sure where the patient's nails were trimmed; he was seen at several veterinary clinics over the weekend and was sedated due to his aggressive nature.  I feel certain that if they were trimmed, it was while he was under sedation at one of the prior...

clinics and for the protection of the staff that had to handle him.  I cannot comment on how short they were trimmed as I was not able to observe his feet upon his check-in exam after the emergency clinic discharged him.2) No oral medication was given, again due to the patient's aggressive nature.  This is not a life-threatening issue as many veterinarians recommend NOT starting antibiotics until a urinary catheter is removed, as there is less chance of inducing a resistant bacterial infection at that time.  This patient was literally impossible for the staff here to medicate orally due to safety concerns with an aggressive animal.3) The urine bag was removed as the patient was actively charging us upon attempts to handle him or his bag and we deemed it easier to change towels as needed than to try to keep a closed urinary system functional in a non-cooperative patient.  This is standard in many clinics and I do not feel it was a breach of patient care.4) Injectable medications had to be given as oral medications could not safely be administered to this patient; unfortunately injectable medications are more expensive than oral ones in general.  For the safety of the staff and Drs. here, it was simply not possible to give the patient oral medications. 5) The client was unhappy with the situation and was given the option to take the pet elsewhere for care, and opted to do so.
