Express Van Rentals

Customer Service representative[redacted] states it is okay to drop off rental at 5:30pm Monday but upon arriving at 5:20pm, the "owner charged another dayI rented a car from this company Friday March 28 2014 when the customer service rep[redacted] informed me that their business is closed on Sundays so I can not return car Sunday. Upon seeing the contract saying that cars are to be returned before 5pm will be charged another day I asked her can I leave the vehicle locked outside the gate on Sunday and have someone return the key Monday and collect the $100 deposit while I'm at work. Her response was NO. I then informed her I work from 8am until 5pm Monday-Friday and can not get to their location until 5:30pm. She states that was just fine. She also never mentioned anything about fuel surcharge upon rental. When I returned the vehicle 5:20pm the following Monday, the owner's son[redacted] (refused his last name) states that I will be charged for another day. I told him exactly what[redacted] stated Friday upon rental. He got upset saying[redacted] does not run this business "I do" and it is my rules. He then states I will be charged for fuel. I told him noone informed me of any fuel charges upon intial rental. I offered to drive car down the block to gas station to fill it up and he refused. He then only gave me $34 back of my initial $100 deposit then turned around walking away. This situation could have been easily resolved by honoring what an employee of their company,[redacted], stated. As opposed to being an ethical business owner, they simply walked out the back door of the business and refused to speak. I have no choice but to report this situation for myself and to warn others that may be considering using Express CAr Rental service so they will not be ripped off like I was.Desired SettlementI simply wish to have the remainder of my $100 deposit which equals $66 to be returned to me. I was only given $34 back from the initial cash deposit upon returning the vehicle.Business Response The original due time was 2pm. The customer stated he wouldn't be able to return it until 5, so we extended his due in time for free. He was advised that returns after 5 will be charged, and even initialed the part of the contract stating that.The fuel charges were explained as they are on every rental. We would have let him simply go put fuel in but he was arguing about the agreed upon return time and the contract had already been closed. We've been in business over 20 years and have lots of satisfied customers, but we can't really be flexible on returns after 5pm as later returns don't give us time to service and clean the car for another rental that day. Attached is the top portion of the contract with the amended later return time of 5pm and his initials by the After 5 returns clause.
